TAKE-OFF OF HISTORICAL ROUND-THE-WORLD FLIGHT
Local Pilot Inspires Students with Record-Breaking Flight and Innovative New
Technologies Built Especially for His Plane “Spirit of San Diego”
SAN DIEGO, CA – On Tuesday, May 12 between 10 and 11 am, San Diego business owner, author, and
pilot will showcase his state-of-the-art aircraft “Spirit of San Diego” and review flight plans for his upcoming threemonth 22-country record-breaking around-the-world adventure to San Diego’s future leaders – the fourth grade
students at Lindbergh Schweitzer Elementary School, namesake of aviation hero Charles Lindbergh.
Flying at a speed faster than has ever been flown in a Piper Malibu Mirage, his plane “Spirit of San Diego” is
equipped with the most innovative technology available today. Seven local San Diego businesses have designed
and/or installed a combination of new technologies custom built especially for DeLaurentis’ plane to produce more
horsepower and speed, reduce drag, climb faster and run more reliably than any other plane of its type. More than 40
sponsors have signed on for this historical trip including Landmark Aviation at Lindbergh Field, where DeLaurentis

DeLaurentis says, “Like pilot Charles Lindbergh and the Spirit of St. Louis, “I carry the hopes, dreams and Spirit of
San Diego with me on this historic flight. This call to adventure showcases San Diego, aviation technology, raises
money for a local school, and shows the people of San Diego and the world what is possible with the proper training,
good decision making and the right equipment.”
The event will include a brief presentation, hands-on inspection of the plane and survival flight suit, and Q/A with
students and parents.
