TEXTURE
Wavers are not only great for creating a rock, beachy or bohemian look, but they can also be great
for creating texture and volume as an alternative to back combing. They come in a variety of sizes
and shapes to curve your hair over and under the barrels for that gorgeous wave effect.

BUYING GUIDE
When looking for a styling tool that creates waves and texture it’s important to consider:
BARREL SIZE
The narrower the barrels are, then the more your wave will look like a soft crimp. So if you’re looking
to create big waves then look for those with barrels over 20mm.
BARREL SHAPE
Look at the end of the barrels when they are closed. A deep ‘V’ shape will give an edgy look, whereas
equal size rounded barrels give a much softer ‘S’ shaped wave.
BARREL FINISH
The finish affects the performance of the waver due to its ability to heat up, recover quickly, style
faster and prevent snagging. Look for polished and highly conductive finishes such as reflective
titanium plating as this will provide an even better performance to ceramic or other spray finishes.

STEP BY STEP
Please read the use and care booklet, ensuring
you have followed the hair testing instructions.
1.Start with the underneath sections and always
work from the back of your head towards the
front.
1.Ensure your hair is clean and totally dry.
Waves will not hold on damp hair.
2.Comb and place your hair in the desired parting
then divide into sections.
3.Select the lowest heat to test on a small section
of hair and gradually increase the temperature
as needed:

2.Take a two inch wide section of hair and hold at
the ends. Taking care not to touch the scalp and
starting at the root, clamp the hair between the
top barrels and bottom plate, holding the waver
at a horizontal angle to the hair.
3.Clamp the hair in place for a few seconds
(based on prior testing) then release the grip.
4.The waving process requires overlapping. Gently
move the styler down the hair towards the ends
and match the outermost wave of your hair with
the barrels and hold in position again for a few
seconds.

There are benefits to both curling irons and heated rollers. Each tool can give very different looks,
which is why many women prefer to have both.
Curls created with a curling iron tend to be more defined and allow you to have more control over
the size and shape of each curl. Not only can you achieve very different looks with curls or soft
waves, you can also add a touch of glamour to an up-style.

When looking for a curling iron it’s important to consider:

Larger barrels create soft, loose curls whilst the narrower barrels create more distinct spiral curls.
If you are looking for an all round curling iron, a 25mm barrel will easily achieve both looks.

You can now heat different zones of the barrel to different temperatures. This allows you to create
a multitude of distinctive styles, depending on the code combination selected.
FLIPPER
Using a flipper will give a more distinct tight curl but sometimes can be difficult to use and restrict
performance by not getting hot enough. Look for short length, highly conductive mini flippers as
they are much easier to use and allow you to use the styler as a wand for a more freestyle natural
looking curl.

downwards with the cool tip closest to the floor.

•Holding the styler vertical to the hair will
give a loose curl, whereas holding the styler

•For loose curls take bigger sections and for

•Deciding to turn your styler clockwise or anticlockwise will affect whether your curl flicks
inwards or outwards. For outward curls rotate
the barrel anti-clockwise on the left side of
your head and clockwise on the right side of

which is why many women prefer to have both.
Heated rollers are a classic styling tool that have come a long way since the days your mum used
to use them. They can be used on any hair length as long as your hair can fit around the roller once
and can add extreme volume to short styles such as a bob.
Rollers are great for creating soft curls, soft waves and for really adding body and volume to your
hair for that ultimate full and glamorous look. Plus, once you get the hang of it, setting your hair
in heated rollers can be done in a matter of minutes and you can finish your make up or paint your
nails while you wait for them to cool.

ROLLER SIZE
The width of the roller will determine the size and lift of the curls produced. For glamorous curls or
volume look for those that have medium and large size rollers.

NUMBER OF ROLLERS
In order to style your whole head you will need around twenty rollers regardless of your hair length.
To style just the top hair section of your head to add volume and root lift, you will need around
six rollers.
ROLLER FINISH
This affects how well the roller will grip your hair. Flocked rollers have a velvety coating which tends
to grip hair better than non-flocked rollers.
CLIPS
These hold the roller in place while they cool so it’s important to have high quality clips. Butterfly
clips grip better than pins and some feature plates inside to provide a secondary heat source to lock

1.Ensure your hair is clean and totally dry.
Curls will not hold on damp hair.
2.Section your head into three main sections;
the mohawk strip, on the top of your head;
middle section from ear to ear and the bottom
section from below the ears.
STEP BY STEP
1.Take a section of hair no wider than the roller
and comb through.
2.If desired, mist lightly with medium hold
hairspray throughout or at the roots. Don’t use
any other styling products yet (e.g shine sprays)
as the curl will not hold.
3.Place the roller either behind or in front of the
hair at the root (see page 20 for three roller
placement options that will create different
styles). Then move the roller up towards the ends.
4.Hold the ends of your hair on the roller with your
fingers whilst rotating the roller down towards
the root. Your ends should be covered and your
hair tight around the roller.
5.Take the butterfly clip and place firmly over the
roller.
6.Ensure the clip is positioned horizontally to avoid
ridges from the plate being too close to the root.
7.Take a section behind and follow the previous
steps. This time the second roller should sit
closely behind the first roller.
8.When the rollers are completely cool, remove the
clip then unwind the roller to release the hair.

place. Finish with a light mist of hairspray.
•To avoid crimped hair ends, be sure to smooth
the ends around the roller before rotating.

•Do not remove heated rollers if they are still
warm. The longer the rollers are left in the
hair the better the curl will hold.
•Once finished styling mist with light hold
hairspray. Avoid ultra hold hairspray as it
will be difficult to shake out and creates a
less natural look.
•Always use your fingers to style your curls
rather than a brush or comb.
•If you end up with too much curl, stretch
the curl or use a hair dryer to loosen.
