Northumberland Countryside walk 9.30am start Wednesday 2nd Sept. Northumberland Countryside walk 2.00pm start A Scottish Coast walk 9.30am start Belford to St. Cuthbert’s Cave; a picturesque walk to St Cuthbert’s Cave - the cave where the monks of Lindisfarne are said to have brought the body of St Cuthbert in 875AD as they fled from the Viking raids on Lindisfarne. Hepburn Crag and Ros Castle; woods, moors, hills, views of 7 castles and wild white cattle to be spotted from the top. Burnmouth to St. Abbs Head; this is a spectacular walk on the Scottish Coast. High cliffs along a dramatic coastline make this an excellent walk. St. Abbs is a renowned National Nature Reserve and it’s a wonderful place to discover and explore. We catch a bus back to our start point in Burnmouth. Beadnell to Low Newton; the bays, inlets, dunes and headlands on this section of the coast are a delight to explore. Some spectacular views make for a cracking walk on the Northumberland coast. The Pilgrim’s Way to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne; we walk across the sea from the mainland on the ancient Pilgrims’ Way to Lindisfarne. Once there we explore the east and north coast of the island and then return on foot the way we came. The Pennine Way from Kirk Yetholm to The Schil; The Pennine Way is 50 years old in 2015 and the northern section is as good as it gets. We follow the high path south to The Schil and then take the easier low path back to our starting point in Kirk Yetholm. Eglingham and Bewick Moor; we follow moorland paths to Blawearie Farm, a deserted and romantic ruin high up on the moor. A great walk to see birds of prey. Bamburgh to Budle Bay; a lovely coast walk with fabulous views across Budle Bay, the Farne Islands and Bamburgh Castle. The Simonside Hills and Rothbury; we walk this wonderful ridge high above the Coquet Valley, then drop down to cross the River and follow paths back to Rothbury with some great views of Simonside. We have no Footsteps guided walks between 11th and 21st September The Holy Island of Lindisfarne; we walk across the sea from the mainland on the ancient Pilgrims’ Way to Lindisfarne. Once there we explore the island and return to the mainland the same way we arrived, along the Pilgrim’s Way. Thursday 3rd Sept. Friday 4th Sept. Northumberland National Park walk 9.30am start Wednesday 23rd Sept. Northumberland Countryside walk 2.00pm start Northumberland National Park walk 9.30am start Northumberland Coast walk 2.00pm start Northumberland National Park walk 9.30am start The Cheviot and the Harthope Valley; we head for the summit of the highest hill in the Cheviots by following the Harthope Burn all the way to its source. The walk includes a section of The Pennine Way and if time allows, we’ll visit the Men of Auchope, where the views are just stunning. Hepburn Crag and Ros Castle; woods, moors, hills, views of 7 castles and wild white cattle to be spotted from the top. The Ingram Valley and Linhope Spout; one of the National Park’s loveliest valleys and its most spectacular waterfall are visited on this walk. Bamburgh to Budle Bay; a lovely coast walk with fabulous views across Budle Bay, the Farne Islands and Bamburgh Castle. Yeavering Bell, Easter and Wester Tor; Three hills in one day on a spectacular walk in the northern Cheviots. Expect to see red grouse, wild goats and a great Iron Age hill fort on this our best hill walking day. Walks start at either 9.30am or 2.00pm unless by prior arrangement. Please check the list for the exact details You must have walking boots, waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers for the 1 day hill walks. Also bring some water, (1 litre is ideal), a packed lunch and snacks. Please dress for the weather conditions and wear suitable footwear for all our walks and look at our ‘what to wear and bring’ page on the website for more information. Walks may be cancelled if the weather conditions are poor or forecast to deteriorate over the course of the day. So, what’s north Northumberland like and what will we see?
