our Capability Statement

FortiTech Solutions, a CVE‐certified Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), specializes in helping clients plan, architect, and execute IT systems and projects. We are vendor agnostic, we don’t promote any specific approach, and we integrate with our clients’ IT organizations and processes to look out for their interests. Our approach is founded on the following core principles:  Establish customer and mission alignment, overall objectives, and project goals from the start through proper project planning  Iteratively build the architecture to drive efficiencies and quality through standardization, re‐use, and proven best practices  Execute in a way that provides the necessary controls without dictating the approach to provide flexibility  Focus on what is important – it’s not about the process, it’s about achieving the result. FortiTech Solutions has the experience, perseverance, and fortitude to help you maximize the benefits of your IT projects. Our Services Our technology consulting services and capabilities span the entire IT lifecycle, from planning through delivery. IT Planning. As illustrated in multiple surveys performed in the last decade, IT projects primarily fail due to poor requirements definition, poor scope control, inadequate risk management, and communication challenges. Technology is rarely the reason. This is where experience matters ‐ FortiTech Solutions' IT planning capabilities will help ensure your IT projects are well defined and planned from the start. Architecture. Organizations must have a reference architecture in place to establish a vision and a roadmap for achieving the vision. Reference architectures should facilitate, not prescribe. They should be living artifacts that are updated as needs change, and that provide proven components that can be used to promote reuse and efficiencies. FortiTech Solutions’ approach is to help establish the architecture framework and then detail the components as needs arise. This pragmatic approach provides the benefit of building an architecture while simultaneously demonstrating results against it. Data Definition. Business processes will change over time; however core data an organization uses tend to remain constant. Over the years, IT systems have been built around automating business functions in a “stovepipe” fashion without taking a holistic view of data. FortiTech Solutions focuses on gaining a deep understanding of client data and establishing a data architecture framework to build or enhance IT systems, whether those systems automate business processes, enhance decision support, or act as services to integrate legacy systems. We work with clients using agile analytics techniques to quickly demonstrate capability and build buy‐in while populating the data architecture as we go. Project Delivery. IT delivery is not easy and is not an exact science. One must be able to foresee challenges and risks, and have the perseverance and fortitude to address them. This is where experience matters – FortiTech Solutions uses our experience and lessons learned from delivering critical IT projects to identify risks associated with a project and then plan iterations early on in the lifecycle to address the highest risks first, coupled with delivering high‐value business functionality to build momentum and buy‐in. SDLC Frameworks. There are many SDLC practices and frameworks available and it is easy to become lost in them. Too often implementing an SDLC becomes about the process instead of delivering the system. FortiTech Solutions takes an artifact‐based approach. We define the critical artifacts (outputs) and the key measures required at each stage of the lifecycle. An artifact‐based approach with measures allows clients to drive consistency across teams or vendors without being prescriptive on how the work is done, drive efficiencies through reuse and standardization, and build intellectual capital. Project Diagnostics. FortiTech Solutions uses a standard framework to diagnose a project that incorporates industry best practices and our experiences. Through interviews with business stakeholders, IT management, and project teams, we evaluate the state of the project, identify risks, and develop recommendations. Our findings are summarized in a briefing that our clients can use to implement improvements and get troubled projects on the right track. Our Experiences FortiTech Solutions’ Principals have 25 years of experience with Civil Agencies, Defense Agencies, states, and commercial organizations. This includes the Combatant Commands, DHS, IRS, CDC, FDA, EPA, USDA, VA, state health exchange, large banks, and manufacturing firms. Our Principals have led successful captures for $100+ million IT contracts, served as Program Managers for projects in the tens of millions, transitioned work and created prime and subcontractor teams of 90+ people, and stood up systems development operations from scratch. We have led efforts to establish SDLC approaches (e.g., agile) and implement quality risk review programs, and performed project diagnostics for civil and commercial clients in the health, defense, environmental, and financial areas for systems development and data analytics initiatives.
