We have many great opportunities to end the year strong. We have White Cane Day on May 1st for which we still have many spots to fill Please contact Gay Enyeart if you can help. This also means we will not be having our weekly Friday meeting on May 1st so we can all help educate the community on what we do as Lions. Lion Roy, once again, is organizing the annual Track Meet at the School for the Blind on Thursday, May 14th. This is one of the best times to bring friends and family to volunteer to see these magnificent kids taking part in all of these events. I know when I have brought people from the credit union to help that they are so amazed at what these kids can do and always are so thankful that I invited them to participate. So please consider signing up to help and invite someone to come and see this amazing event. May 15 / 16th is the 19G Spring Conference up in Kelso. The theme of the conference this year is Cruisin’ to the Conference. This conference is a great one to attend because it is so close so you do not have to stay the night if you don’t want. Friday night is a fun filled night with contests and awards. I think you will enjoy attending this because we have a couple of our clan going to perform so you will have to attend to see what they are going to do. On Saturday there are several breakout sessions that will provide an excellent opportunity for some of the incoming board members to attend. On May 30th at Club Green Meadows we are celebrating a milestone for our club—our 60th anniversary!! Lion Len 6 1 I S S U E 1 0 and his committee have been working very hard to organize this wonderful dinner with some exciting and fun moments. Please mark your calendar so you do not miss out on the fun. Also mark your calendars for the end of the year celebration that will be held on Thursday June 25th at the Pearson Air museum. This will be a pot luck dinner where we will be saying Thank You to all of those who served on the board this year and inducting those new members who will be joining the board for next year. It was a festive occasion as everyone dressed for the races – ladies wore beautiful hats and the guys did their best to dress like high rollers. The party started with a social hour which featured great Mint Juleps created by Lori. Everyone brought a dish to share so there were plenty of food to go along with the conversations about which horse would win the race. Everyone studied racing forms and news articles and then placed their bets. At 3:40, the race was on and the group cheered wildly for their favorites. It was a great race. The winner American Pharaoh made four club members a little richer. The winners were: Amy Hegewald, Jen Leger, Bill Shalaby and DeLores Milligan. After the race, the gambling fever was still high so we bet on the Royal Princess’ name. On Monday we learned it was Charlotte, which made Adam Hegewald and DeLores Milligan the big winners. What a fun social event. Plan to join us next year for the 142nd Kentucky Derby! In order to honor and recognize members of the Fort Vancouver Lions Club who have served the club and our community faithfully, the Board of Directors created the Century Club. To be eligible for membership in the Fort Vancouver Lions Century Club the total of the member’s age plus years of service to the Lions mission must be equal to or greater than 100. Many Lions being recognized have served our club in leadership roles as officers and committee chairs; some have gone on to positions at the zone, district, and Multiple District levels and beyond. Others have focused their service activities closer to home – at the club and community level. Everyone receiving this award has at least two traits in common - lifelong commitment to community service and a dedication to Lionism. It is for those reasons the Fort Vancouver Lions would like to recognize and honor these Century Club recipients. Each of the following members will receive a special Century Club pin and Certificate of Appreciation: Carol Casey, Tori Luetjen, June Serviss, Ralph Harding, John Lyons, Terry Sutfin, Marcel Tingey, Ray Casey, Terry Robertson, Del Lanphier, Ken Milligan, Bob Weller, Ken Serviss, Wally Teuscher and Don Fish. Please make plans to join us on Saturday, May 30th to recognize and honor the first members of the Fort Vancouver Lions Century Club.
