Letter for the ARC-1 Class here

Welcome to the Forward Progress A.R.C. for Success Program!
A.R.C. stands for Anti-Recidivism Course.
Recidivism (/rɨˈsɪdɨvɪzəm/; from recidive + ism, from Latin recidīvus "recurring", from re- "back" +
cadō "I fall") is the act of a person repeating an undesirable behavior after they have either
experienced negative consequences of that behavior, or have been treated or trained to extinguish
that behavior. It is also used to refer to the percentage of former prisoners who are rearrested for a
similar offense From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
California, having the highest recidivism rate in the nation, has enacted a recidivism statute also
known as ‘Three Strikes Law’ for receiving three felony convictions. "Strategic Growth Plan".
Gov.ca.gov.
In California, the risk of elevating a misdemeanor to the severity of a felony happens in specific
circumstances including domestic violence, petty theft, shoplifting, indecent exposure, drunk driving
with three prior charges, receipt of stolen property, etc.
This class has been mandated by the court for Diversion and/or as a condition of Summary Probation
to help you avoid committing a more serious crime that could lead to a felony charge. The purpose of
this class is to help you escape the trap of recidivism. Per court mandate, this class is designed
to focus your attention on the seriousness of your misdemeanor charge and actions. By
your degree of open and active participation in this class, you will demonstrate your
interest in having this charge stricken from your record.
Forward Progress is an innovative, instructional program designed to help people who are involved
in a pre-trial or post-conviction misdemeanor case. During class discussions, you are expected to
discuss your personal situation in respect to your misdemeanor charge. In the eyes of the law, all
misdemeanors regardless of the crime, are to be dealt with punitive action.
The goal of Forward Progress is to end the perpetual cycle of recidivism by rehabilitating
misdemeanor offenders through teaching personal responsibility and helping our clients develop the
skills required to move forward as productive, law-abiding citizens. We are here to inform you about
what you must do to avoid being trapped by the wave of recidivism.
You will be attending a six-hour ARC-1 course. The class will be held at the Goodwill Building, 800 W
