Stability
How do you define stability? More importantly, what value can you place on stability?
Consider these factors:
1) Foster’s Home remains solidly committed to our faith-based origin. Our spiritual commitment to children and families is non-negotiable. Without God as the central focus of
our program, there is no true healing possible.
2) The Board of Directors of Foster’s Home has a combined 183 years of service to the
Home. Two of our board members celebrate 30 years this May. Two others are in the
20+ year category.
3) Foster’s Home has only had four Presidents in the 43 years since it formally became
independent from Boles Home in 1972.
4) The caregivers at Foster’s Home have an average of 10+ years’ experience per couple in
child care, the majority of which has been spent at Foster’s Home. We continue to draw
interest in this position from experienced couples when vacancies occur.
5) Foster’s Home was one of the first child care agencies in Texas to adopt a traumainformed, evidence supported model of care. We did so in 2009, in choosing the
Sanctuary Model®. Since then, trauma informed knowledge and practice has become a
staple of state licensing requirements. Our board was visionary in leading us to such a
model even before standards caught up with accepted research into trauma. 6) Foster’s Home has had no debt for several decades. Not one cent of donated funds pays
for interest. We build/improve on a pay as you go basis.
7) Foster’s Home is able to consider expanding programs and capacity due to a growing
and healthy endowment. Our donors recognize the value of restricted gifts that “give
forever.” 8) Foster’s Home enjoys stability of staff tenure, which equates to better and more consistent care for children.
These are some of the many factors that work toward creating a home of healing for children, and a ministry where concerned individuals can make charitable gifts with confidence. Thanks for joining hands with our children to heal their wounds.

Case Management
Foster’s Home is blessed by a very powerful and effective board of
directors. Though their names are always listed on the sidebar to
the right in each issue of Chatter, we wanted you to see their faces! As mentioned, this board has 183 years of combined service to our
donors, children, and staff at Foster’s Home. The longevity and
composition of our board ensures the broadest base of wisdom
we can assemble, as well as the stability that comes from service
over several decades. All of these men and women are faithful
Christians who bring years of experience from various backgrounds
to their oversight of Foster’s Home. Before serving as a board
member for the Home, each one must be approved by the elders of
the Graham Street Church of Christ. This is a part of our corporate
bylaws, and provides a check and balance to the makeup of the
board. We thank these volunteers who offer many hours and drive
many miles at their own expense to lead and guide the Home.

Auction 2015
With a total of $138,000 raised and the
help from Kappa Delta Rho and Alternative
Spring Break, both from Tarleton State
University, Foster’s Home held another
successful auction this year!
We have already started gathering
items and vehicles for 2016. Make
plans to be here on March 4 and 5!

Welcome to Foster’s Home
Andrew and Allison Horton
Andrew and Allison joined us from Brownwood
this past January. Allison has a history of
working in foster care and Andrew was in the
military and previously worked in the prison
system. They will be serving two homes of
boys as their relief caregivers. We are looking
forward to the work they will do here.
Dave and Pat Maudlin
Dave and Pat recently came to Foster’s
Home after serving as caregivers at another
brotherhood children’s home. They will be
serving as the full-time caregivers to the
high school girls who call Foster’s Home their
own home. The girls are already enjoying
Dave’s culinary skills and several will be
driving soon with Pat. We are happy to
have the Maudlins in our neighborhood.
It’s Reunion Time!
It’s that time again! Foster’s Home holds a reunion
for former residents every five years. This is a 5th year
so, mark your calendars for September 12, 2015.
Don’t forget to stay connected to our
Facebook page for more information. We
will also put details on our website.

Thank You
Kenneth & Betty Lesley
Kenneth and Betty Lesley recently bought a larger stock trailer for our children to use when
traveling to stock shows. For many years, they have appreciated our animal program and its
impact on children’s development. Betty is the daughter of Sherwood & Myrtie Foster, and has
demonstrated the level of compassion her mother and father taught her. They would be proud of
Betty and Kenneth and their continued support of children who need someone to believe in them!
Crafton Church of Christ
The Crafton Church of Christ (in Wise County) was a faithful
supporter of our children for many years. Like many rural churches,
their numbers dwindled as members moved away. They recently
made the painful decision to close their doors. Foster’s Home is
grateful, that along with the donation of their building, they gave
us the “last check” in their checkbook, representing disbursement
of their remaining funds. Bill Culverhouse was one of the trustees
appointed to handle the final details of disbanding the church. We
appreciate him delivering the gift to Foster’s Home personally.
Kappa Delta Rho
The Kappa Delta Rho fraternity from Tarleton State
University has adopted Foster’s Home for the past several
years as their local philanthropy project. They came to
us and asked what would benefit our neighborhood.
We gave them a few ideas and they recently presented
us bike racks for each home. We are grateful for
the time and effort they put into Foster’s Home.

Seniors 2015
Hope
Hope has lived at Foster’s Home for a year and
a half. She has played softball for 7 years and
trumpet for 6. She was a member of the marching
band for 3 years. Hope is graduating this summer,
almost a whole year early. We are proud of all she
has accomplished, to say the least. She aspires to
join the Coast Guard and become an Operations
Specialist, where she will learn technical
management and emergency operations. She
will also be pursuing a bachelors degree in animal
science or social work while in the Coast Guard.
Austin, originally from the Metroplex,
came to Foster’s Home in August. He
has been in some form of care most of
his life. He plays guitar and loves music.
He is also a very talented artist. With
those skills, he plans to attend Ranger
College and study Graphic Design. He
is on the baseball team at Stephenville
High School. We are proud of the strides
Austin has made since August and are
excited to see what his future holds.

No Matter How Long the Winter,
Spring is Sure to Follow
What a great start to the year we have had here at Foster’s Home.
Our children have already had many different opportunities
because of you. We have new life in the lambs that were recently
born. We had several children enjoy a special family camp in
Glen Rose where they got to zipline! Most of our older children
attended LTC in Dallas over the Easter weekend with great
success. We were also joined by Kappa Delta Rho and Delta Zeta
from Tarleton State University for their Annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Using the investments for all they are worth
And maximizing the overall satisfaction you receive from your assets
You have worked hard all your life to save and grow your investments. If you are
like most people, you are looking for ways to minimize taxes and maximize not just
your monetary gain but the overall satisfaction you receive from your assets.
Options & Benefits
Here are some ideas that can help you make the most of your
investments through charitable planning.
Taxwise planning
If you own appreciated assets that you wish to sell but are concerned about facing higher capital
gains taxes this year, consider a charitable gift. When you transfer your stock or real property
to us, we can sell your assets tax free and use the proceeds to carry on our work. You will avoid
paying additional taxes this year and receive a charitable deduction for your gift to us.
Give and receive
If you are concerned about capital gains taxes but still need income from your stocks or real
estate, another idea is a charitable remainder unitrust. When you transfer your assets to
the trust, you can avoid capital gains tax. The trust will sell your assets tax free and reinvest
the proceeds to pay you (and your spouse) income for the rest of your life. You will receive an
income tax deduction in the year you create the trust. Our organization will benefit from what
remains of the trust assets after all payments have been made.
Live fully and still benefit
Perhaps you are looking for a way to preserve your assets for future use. You can still help us by
naming our organization as a beneficiary or successor owner of any assets that remain in your
estate. If your estate will be subject to estate tax, this type of gift may entitle you to estate tax
savings.
Create a life estate
Another possibility is to create a life estate in your real property. With a life estate, you deed
your home to us but may remain living there for the rest of your life. You will receive an income
tax deduction in the year you transfer the property to us, and we can make use of the home
value when you pass away.
