hy shred? When something that contains your

personal information in lost or stolen, you are at risk for
identity theft. One out of ten people have already been
victimized by identity theft. It can take up to 5,840 hours
to correct the damage from identity theft.
Shred what? Once you no longer need them, the
following should be disposed of in a secure manner:
• Canceled checks
• Credit card & bank account statements
• Utility or monthly bills
• ATM, deposit, debit and credit card receipts
• Paycheck stubs
Eyeglasses
Why recycle eyewear? The poor eyesight of more than
157 million people* without access to eye care could
easily be corrected with used — yet usable — eyeglasses.
The lack of eyeglasses denies children and adults the
opportunities for education, employment and a better
quality of life.

What happens to the glasses? The glasses are shipped
to the Wisconsin Lions Foundation Eyeglass Recycling
Center (one of only 18 Lions Clubs International Certified
recycling Centers in the world). They are then sorted,
washed, read (prescription strengths determined) and
packaged. Over 800,000 pairs of glasses are processed
annually at the Center. The eyeglasses are stored at the
Center until they are requested for eyeglass-dispensing
missions to developing countries. At the mission site,
trained Lion volunteers and eye care professionals
perform vision screenings and dispense the appropriate
recycled glasses, free of charge, to needy children
and adults.

Electronics
Why recycle electronics? According to the Wisconsin
Department of Natural Resources, electronics are one
of the fastest growing parts of the waste stream, with
millions of devices discarded each year in the United
States. Wisconsin prohibits disposing of computers and
other electronic equipment as trash. The reasons for
this prohibition are simple: computers, laser or inkjet
printers, tablets, iPhones and other electronic equipment
contain materials that can damage the environment. If
discarded in landfills, some of those materials, can leach
into groundwater. To protect the environment, computers
and other electronic equipment should be properly
recycled, so that valuable materials are recovered and
environmental damage is prevented.
What happens to the electronics? When you recycle
electronics some of the items will be recycled to a new
home. Electronic equipment will be wiped clean of all
data.
