Brokenness
There was a soft breeze. It was 72 degrees. Our church softball team was playing well.
I was up to bat. A swing…a hit! Safe at first base!
However, as I touched the bag, I took a tumble and broke my clavicle.
Breaking a bone is painful and it leaves one dependent upon others for routine tasks.
The same is true spiritually. Spiritual brokenness is painful and leaves us wholly
dependent upon God. The difference is that while we would avoid a broken bone at all
costs, we should pursue spiritual brokenness at all costs.
The Bible says that . . .

God loves the one with a broken heart. (Ps 34:18; 51:17)
God uses our brokenness (godly sorrow) to bring us to repentance. (2 Cor 7:9-10)
God breaks us to remake us into what he wants us to be. (Is 64:8; Jer 18:3-6)
God comforts and heals us when we are broken. (Ps 147:3; Lk 4:18)
God warns us against being hard and unbroken. (Pr 28:14, 29:1)
Whatever may be said of the accident that broke my collarbone this spring, may our
spiritual brokenness never be an accident. May our spiritual brokenness be the “first
base” that we run to with purpose and perseverance. It is then that we will experience
the blessings of God’s mercy and grace!

CHURCH ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES
Sunday evening, June 15, 2014
The congregation sang an opening hymn, The Church’s One Foundation.
A year in review Powerpoint presentation was viewed, then Pastor Matt Morrell shared some
remarks about looking back in gratitude, looking forward in optimism because God is good, and
looking upward as we keep our focus on things above.
Pastor Matt called on two men from the congregation to lead in prayer, Chatru Mohinani
and Sheldon Miller, then Pastor prayed.
1) Call to order - Pastor Matt called the business session to order and established a
quorum. There were 199 in attendance at the annual meeting.
2) Election of 2014 Deacons and Deaconesses
Pastor thanked Deacons and Deaconesses whose terms expired:

Gary Blessman explained the church budget which had been distributed at the doors.
Pastor Roger Kilian explained the missions budget in the absence of Missions Chair, Luke
Forman.

Matt gave opportunity for questions. There were no questions and the motion carried.
Presentation of School Budget
Mr. Alan Hodak presented and explained the school budget. There were no questions.
Motion by Brian Davis to approve the FBCS budget; supported by Terry Lange; motion
carried.
Endorsement of Messengers for MBA Annual Meeting
The Minnesota Baptist Association annual meeting is Friday evening and Saturday,
July 11-12, at Prior Lake Baptist Church. Dr. Sam Horn is the speaker.

STAFF REPORTS
CENTRAL BAPTIST THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY, Dr. Brent Belford
God’s grace and provision has been exceedingly apparent to us during this past fiscal year.
Highlights of what God has done for us include:
• A smooth and exciting transition to the senior pastor-president model under Pastor
Matt Morrell
• Approval of a 2015-2016 budget, which includes a new full-time faculty position
(Prof. Don Odens)
• Ongoing remodeling of chapel, lounge, and break room
• Strong giving from regular donors
• A number of larger gifts that were both timely and encouraging
• Pending sale of Southview Baptist Church property
• Graduating class of 10 students prepared for ministry
• 56 students enrolled in academic programs
• Record attendance at MacDonald Lecture series; Dr. Jeff Straub spoke on
Pentecostalism
• Strong attendance and giving at Friends and Family Banquet in April
While we rejoice in all that God has accomplished for us during this past year, we are still
faced with many challenges and opportunities, some of which include:
• Student recruitment; pray especially for 15 new MDiv students coming this fall
• Fiscal stability
• Donor development
• Accreditation work
Central Seminary remains grateful for Fourth Baptist Church for their partnership in glorifying
God through the mentoring and training of young men and women for vocational ministry.
FINANCIAL OFFICE, Gary Blessman
We have been blessed with funds to be able to resurface our parking lot, buy a 2009 bus,
and take care of other needed repairs around the building and grounds.
We are experimenting with outsourcing our mowing this summer. The company who took
over our snow plowing also does our lawn care, fertilizing, and services our sprinkler system.
Plans are in the works to upgrade our banking and giving system by allowing the use of
online donation methods. Web giving and other banking processes will slightly reduce our costs.

FOURTH BAPTIST CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, Alan Hodak
Thank you to our church family for their continued support! We have completed our 49th
year with steady enrollment, finishing the year with 218 students, up ten students from the
previous year.
Probably the biggest highlight of this year was our varsity volleyball team having an
undefeated season and winning their second straight MACS state title! Our choir tour circled
southern Minnesota and performed at four churches and two Christian schools. We continue to
host three major MACS events: the state basketball tournament (24 teams participated), the
band festival (5 schools participated) and the leadership conference (9 schools participated). Of
all of the year’s events, my favorite was graduation. We sent off nine graduates this year, four of
whom were lifers (since K5). I like this event the most because we say goodbye to our young
people who have reached a huge milestone in their lives. We have had a significant part in
helping them get to this point, and it is wonderful to see it all come to fruition.
We have now completed year two of accreditation and our School Improvement Plan (SIP)
and we will report on our progress in September when we return to school.
Next school year we hope to add two new mimeo interactive boards for our K4 and K5
classrooms, and a revised and updated first grade curriculum. Thanks to the generosity of our
church folks and a donation from one of our parents, FBCS bought a newer bus to replace D-19.
This bus served us very well for many, many years, but rust has had its way and it is time to
retire her. Also, we completed phase two of the school’s security system by securing the
upstairs day care entrance during after school hours. We were also able to install the gym
divider curtain mid-year. We praise the Lord for His provision through the generosity of our
families.
Early enrollment projections are satisfactory and we are cautiously optimistic for our
enrollment numbers for next year. Mrs. Payes (3rd grade) is moving away and we have re-hired
Mrs. Julie Bee (formerly Miss Farrell) to replace her. Mrs. Rose Davis will not be able to continue
next year and we have hired alumnus, Miss Karis Burggraff, as our new K4 teacher.
We are grateful to the Lord for His continued provision and for a great and committed
teaching staff that is working hard to instill a biblical worldview into the minds and hearts of our
students. Keep praying for our families and teachers as we seek to offer a truly Christian
education for our families. Thanks again for your support.
DEACONS, Kimball Cummings
The ministry deacons made many personal contacts with members and visitors this year,
caring for various needs. Some of those needs included prayer for physical and spiritual
problems, hospital and home visits, offering financial assistance from the deacon fund, and
simply being a listening friend. Both administrative and ministry deacons have helped our
pastoral staff and the body in many ways, including: setting up and taking down equipment for
new member receptions, assisting Pastor Morrell in the membership class, coordinating and
serving at the Lord’s Table, assisting at baptisms, greeting visitors, and attending various
church, school, and seminary events. We also listened and provided helpful feedback to Pastor
Morrell as he shared important developments in the life of our church, pastoral staff plans and
ideas, and his own thoughts and questions about his new role as president of Central Seminary.

We also heard, reviewed, and commented on budget and membership matters, facility issues,
pastoral staff concerns, school reports, and various needs of the membership.
It is a joy to serve with gentlemen who are unified in their interest to serve our pastors and
the people of Fourth Baptist and to honor our Lord. Each deacon provides good thought and
input during our monthly meetings.
Ministry deacons during 2014-15 included: Kimball Cummings, Bob Corey, Brian Davis,
Steve Davis, Jay French, Mark Gehrke, Newton Guillen, Al Hawkins, Chris Levang, Fred Koestner,
Eric Markgraf, Jon Muhr, John Reynolds, and Harold Schrenk.
Administrative deacons participate in the governance of Central Seminary and assist the
pastoral staff in matters of finances, property, and trusteeship. They have done an outstanding
job of developing the budget and advising us in financial challenges. Administrative deacons
during 2014-15 included: Tim Emslie, Jeff King, Les Leith, Jay Russell, and Jon Tuttle.

WCTS Radio has been enjoying the blessing of God as we continue to broadcast the gospel
to our community. Of course, we run on prayer and technology, in that order. We have tried to
keep our technology up to date in this past year by replacing and upgrading equipment, when
possible.
We added a couple of programs to our regular lineup. Knowing Christ features the preaching
of Pastor Rich Boerckel. It airs at 1:30 p.m. Saturdays and 2:00 p.m. Sundays. The second
program, Not By Works, with Dr. J.B. Hixson, features theological exposition and discussion.
WCTS is pleased to continue to serve Fourth Baptist Church by broadcasting both Sunday
services each week, usually live, and by rebroadcasting Pastor Morrell’s preaching on Fourth
Baptist Echoes Sunday afternoons.
Unfortunately, a couple of programs ceased production - the popular news programs,
The World and Everything in It and This is News, both from World Magazine.
This year, the terms of our new tower site lease agreement with 3M Corporation took effect
and the costs associated with this lease will significantly increase the expense of broadcasting in
the next five years and beyond. Please pray that God will provide the money required to meet
this increased financial burden.
The highlight of the year was that on May 15, WCTS finally received Program Test Authority
from the FCC to broadcast at 4 kilowatts (kW) overnight. We had been limited to 1 kW, so this is
a significant improvement in our ability to reach people during the dark hours. Praise the Lord!
Also, we undertook a project to improve our signal overall so that it is better able to “punch
through” the background noise present on much of the AM band. The results of this project
have been very satisfactory. Our signal is now on a par with much larger stations. We have never

WCTS has very limited personnel, nevertheless, this is not the work of one person. There are
some other special people who are indispensable to this ministry. Among them are Todd

Benson, Adam Keim, Matthew Pilch, Linda Russell, and Peter Silseth. Matthew Pilch has recently
accepted a pastorate in Port St. Lucy, FL, and we will miss him, but congratulate him and his
family on their new ministry.
I must not fail to mention our change in leadership during this past year. Sam Horn led
WCTS and Central Seminary for more than three years, overseeing many changes in the
ministry. In June, Pastor Morrell became President of Central Seminary and WCTS Radio. His
leadership, wisdom, and advice have been indispensable as we navigated some tricky issues.
Listeners continued to respond to our financial needs during Sharathon. The final amount
given and pledged by Friday, September 19, 2014, was $114,770. We did not reach our goal of
$150,000 during the fundraising week itself, but pledges and checks continued to come in,
which not only met the goal, but surpassed it. Special thanks to the many enthusiastic
volunteers from Fourth Baptist who helped us with Sharathon, as well as those who have helped
with mailings throughout the year.
We praise God every day for the privilege of maintaining a positive Christian broadcast voice
in the Twin Cities area. If you are not a regular listener, I invite you to tune in! Program listings
are always available on our website, www.wctsradio.com, or in the church literature rack.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE, Robert Corey
During this past fiscal year we had the privilege of hosting three new member classes, and
two new member services with baptisms, testimonies, and a wonderful reception in our
gymnasium. In October of 2014 we had one of the largest new member classes in recent
memory. Thirty-nine people completed the class, 16 of whom were baptized. In January, 2015,
we had one of the smallest classes with just three people, two of whom were baptized. And
finally in May, 2015, 15 new members completed the class, 5 of whom were baptized. It is
always a blessing for the deacons to hear the testimonies of those desiring to join our church.
After each new group of members becomes part of our church family, they are assigned to a
deacon, who cares for them and pays attention to their special needs and prayer requests. It is
wonderful to help every new member become assimilated into the church family and see them
find a place to serve.

• We helped members in a variety of ways including moving, cleaning, and home and
hospital visits.
• This past year the Deacon Care committee assisted 12 families financially, some families
more than once.
• Grocery gift cards were distributed to over 40 families during the Thanksgiving and
Christmas holidays.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
NURSERY, Stephanie Isenberg
We are thankful for God’s blessing on our nursery ministry! It is exciting to announce that
thirteen new babies have been added to our nursery! As many as 37 little ones, plus visiting
children, use our nurseries on a typical Sunday morning.
Our nursery facility has also undergone a thorough renovation this year to update all four
nursery rooms. Cabinets, carpet, paint, some furniture, and some play things were replaced. A
special thank you to Roy Witherite and Lori Gustafson, who directed many projects behind the
scenes.
We are so thankful for our nursery workers who compassionately and safely care for our
little ones during their first church experiences. Over the last several months we have added
several capable nursery staff members, but we would welcome a few more who are willing to
serve on a monthly basis.
A huge thank you to our nursery committee members who have graciously gone above and
beyond on our extra projects throughout this year: Sathiya Andrew, Jessica Campbell, Kimberly Emslie,
Candice Erickson, Natalie Gerhke, Stephanie Isenberg (chair), Lindsay Levang, Christa Martin,

CHILDREN’S CHURCH (1st – 3rd Grade), Brian and Rose Davis
• The Davis and Sehi families taught on a rotating basis.
• We teach through the Bible in one year using The ABCs of God.
• We have a monthly missionary focus.
• Average attendance is 22 children per week.
CHILDREN’S CHOIR, James Anderson
The 2014-2015 school year was another year of growth, both musically and spiritually for
the three children’s choirs. More than 70 singers, age 4 through 6th grade, participated over the
course of the year. Each choir sang for church services several times, and the Sunshine and
Junior choirs had opportunity to join with the adult choir on several occasions as well. In
addition to the musical training, the choirs had a Bible lesson each week, and also had several
guest missionary speakers. The year culminated with the annual program in May, Let All Things
Praise the Lord. We greatly appreciate the commitment of the singers and their parents. Special
thanks to Susan Blessman, who is stepping aside after ten years of leading the Cherub choir
(pre-primary). James Anderson directed both the Sunshine (1st-3rd) and Junior (4th-6th) choirs,
and because of a faithful group of helpers, James spent time with both choirs each week. We
look forward to next year and the opportunity to continue to build on the good things that the
Lord has brought about.
SUNDAY SCHOOL, Tom Zustiak
Our Sunday School provides the following for our children:
• An opportunity for early exposure to the gospel
• An environment where they can study God's Word on their level
• An atmosphere where they can learn how to make Biblical application to their lives
• An obedience to a scriptural command (Deut 31:12)
• Guidance as habits and patterns are being formed
• Guidance through the storms of life
This past year we said good-bye to four long-term teachers and some new teaching
methods are being tried in a couple of classes.

ADULT BIBLE FELLOWSHIPS, Les Leith
As we reflect upon this past year, we are thankful for the many individuals who are involved
with ABF leadership teams. Those faithful leaders carried out their duties with great diligence.
Many members have invested in the ABF classes through prayer, outreach, administrative
duties, member care, social activities, and fellowship.
One of our main objectives has been to systematically teach the Word of God to the adults.
This past year we were able to cover the books of Colossians, Psalms, and we are currently
working our way through the Synoptic Gospels this summer.
Our ABF classes have been a great encouragement by providing fellowship within our local
body of believers. The small group setting allows members to get to know each other personally
and share burdens, concerns, and prayer requests with one another. Then the group rejoices
with one another as we see how our great and glorious Savior answers those petitions.
It has been a great year in our ABF ministry and we praise the Lord for the spiritual growth
He has given to us this past year.
TWIN CITIES BIBLE INSTITUTE, Craig Holgrimson, Director
Twin Cities Bible Institute is a ministry of Fourth Baptist Church which provides believers the
opportunity to grow in their understanding of God’s Word. The course material consists of
studies of specific books of the Bible, Doctrine, and also relevant topics current to our times
using God’s Word as our guide. Fall semester classes meet during the months of September,
October, and November and spring semester classes meet in February, March, and April.
During the past year TCBI offered 10 courses which were attended by 131 individuals.
Sixteen of those were new students, and we were pleased to have 2 new teachers lead our
classes. The largest percentage of TCBI students come from Fourth Baptist, but we also had new
students from 3 area churches and 2 local colleges. We also expanded our boundaries by
offering classes at TCBI North in Otsego, along with providing TCBI material online to various
missionaries worldwide.
This September TCBI will again offer classes both at Fourth Baptist Church and Bible Baptist
Church of Otsego, along with new online locations, such as Kenya, Liberia, and other countries.
All TCBI class information is provided on the Fourth Baptist website (www.fourthbaptist.org) and
includes subjects, dates, and times, so students can register online.
We are thankful for the dedication and leadership from these teachers this past year:
Mr. Jim Hunter, Dr. Matt Morrell, Pastor Doug Roman, Dr. Brent Belford, Dr. Sue Field, and
Mr. Mark Stamper.
Please consider joining us for a class at TCBI in order to draw closer to God through His
Word, and also have the opportunity for fellowship with like-minded believers.

WOMEN’S MINISTRIES
LADIES FALL EVENT
The Great FBC Ladies’ Get-Together was held in the Atrium on Friday evening, August 22, 2014
with a turnout of over 100 ladies. The state fair theme was emphasized by the decorations, and the
abundant offering of foods on a stick. Ladies were encouraged throughout the evening to switch the
table where they were seated, giving each the opportunity to meet more ladies.
Carissa Belford challenged us with our common identity in Jesus and how this identity bonds us
beyond what common interests do. The evening ended with a representation of the many
opportunities that are available for women to grow and to serve at Fourth Baptist Church. The ladies
were encouraged to attend and be involved in the women’s ministries.
LADIES MISSIONARY FELLOWSHIPS:
• Hannah – Study in Choosing Gratitude with Kim Morrell and Carissa Belford
• Mary/Martha – Study in Psalm 119 with Terry McLeish

Ladies Fellowships meet on Thursday nights during the school year, two meeting in the
morning, and two in the evening.
MOMS, Kay Hawkins
Purpose: To equip mothers spiritually and practically through Bible study and practical help, and
provide uplifting times of fellowship for moms of all ages, that they may encourage, support and
stimulate one another.
• Thirteen bi-monthly meetings on Tuesday mornings during the school year
• Meetings include prayer, Bible study, discussion, interviews, book reviews, practical help,
and refreshments. Some of the moms and their children eat lunch together afterward,
either in the Fellowship Hall or at the nearby McDonalds, to extend their time of fellowship.

MBA LADIES’ RETREAT, Kathy Locke
• Annual retreat was held April 10-11, 2014 at Grace Baptist, Owatonna.
• Forty ladies from Fourth Baptist Church attended.
• Beth Lynch spoke on the theme, Refreshed and Renewed.
• There were five workshops supporting the retreat theme, one taught by Kim Morrell.
• Good Fellowship with ladies from other MBA churches
ADELPHI MEN’S MINISTRY
Each year we have three Saturday morning breakfasts for our men and teen boys and their
guests. Our first breakfast was in early June. Pastor Dan Miller (Eden Baptist Church) spoke on
Masculine Leadership in the Church. At our September breakfast, Dr. Roy Beacham spoke on our
winter study topic, Moses. His presentation was a wonderful addition to our study. At our
January breakfast, Pastor Matt challenged us.
We studied 20 lessons on Moses from October through March. One study met at church on
Thursday mornings 6:30-7:30, one group met downtown in the US Bank Plaza during the noon
hour, both lead by Bob Corey, and a final group met Saturday mornings, 7:00-8:00, led by Roy
Witherite. Between the three groups, we average around 25 men praying and studying
together.
We also studied the Gospel of John during the summer months on Saturday mornings, 7:008:00, at the church. We averaged 10 to 15 men in this group.
In addition, the men's ministry hosted ice fishing, a Boundary Waters trip, softball, and
basketball. We encourage men to attend the breakfasts, participate in the Bible studies and in
the various other sports activities.
HOME BIBLE FELLOWSHIPS
During the summer of 2014 we began our third round of Home Bible Fellowships when
church members met in neighborhood homes during the summer months for midweek Bible
study and prayer time. Seventeen families welcomed groups into their homes and our midweek
attendance doubled in this venue. Studies were in Acts and followed the Sunday morning
message text. The wide participation and relationships formed in these more intimate settings
have been valuable and healthy for our church family. Pastor Brent Belford organized the Home
Bible Fellowships.
This summer, June-August, 2015, we study through the Beatitudes (Matthew 5-7) in small
groups at 16 different neighborhood locations. Pastoral intern, Nathan Sehi, organizes the Home
Bible Fellowships this summer.

INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH, Chatru & Wendy Mohinani
The last few months God has blessed us with an average of 110 in attendance at our
monthly Friday gatherings. Many of our members are getting involved in the lives of our
Asian friends (mostly from India) and are starting to plant seeds of the gospel in their
hearts and lives.
We continue to meet on the last Friday of the month to play games and have a
potluck meal together. Often we invite a member of our pastoral staff to come and
share with the group. They sometimes explain the meaning of various important
holidays that we celebrate in America. These discussions give us an occasion to share
the gospel in a gentle way and introduce our friends to the love of Christ.
We are thrilled when they want to know more about our God and why our lifestyle
is different. Our desire is to be ready to give an answer for the hope we have in Christ
with gentleness and respect. (1 Peter 3:15)

We currently average 25-30 who live stream on Sunday mornings and 15-20 on Sunday
evenings.
We began posting our services and concerts to Vimeo mid-July 2014, and will have had well
over 5000 people watch a service or concert online by the end of July 2015. The church has
produced and posted over 130 services and/or special events as of June 2014, and the school
has posted 35.
Our monthly viewers have been creeping up slowly with spikes for special events such as the
Christmas concerts, which introduced many to our Vimeo channel. We typically have between
500-650 viewers most months. Our high month was December 2014, when 785 watched the
Christmas concerts. Service recordings have been played from 34 countries around the world in
the last year. Our top ten viewing countries outside of the United States are Philippines,
Romania, India, United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, Russia, Uruguay, Australia, and Germany.
Over 20,000 viewers have loaded a video (either on Vimeo.com or through people linking
videos to other sites, like Facebook and Central Seminary) which furthered awareness of our
ministry.
In the past year, donations from members allowed us to upgrade all three original cameras,
add a small audio board to mix radio, auditorium, and ambient sound for better control of the
sound, and upgrade the processor and WiFi capability on the controller computer, which
improved the quality of our stream and allowed for a slightly smaller scale streaming experience
almost anywhere in the building, as needed.
