BEFORE and AFTER SCHOOL CARE
SAFE ACTIVE FUN ENRICHMENT - SAFE
SAFE is our before and after school-based program for students in Yorkville,
Plano, Sandwich, Somonauk, and Newark School Districts. The program offers
homework assistance, creative enrichment activities, supervised athletic play
and many social activities for children. A light breakfast snack is served in the
morning and a snack is also served in the afternoon.
AM and PM care is offered in Yorkville, Plano, and Newark grade schools.
Sandwich and Somonauk grade schools currently offer PM care only. Morning
care begins at 6:30am and runs until school begins. Afternoon care begins
immediately after dismissal until 6:00pm, including early dismissal days. There
is no SAFE program on days that school is closed due to inclement weather and
other emergencies.
You will find professional and dependable care for your K-6 student in our SAFE
program. Our staff model and teach the YMCA core values of caring, respect,
responsibility, and honesty in their work with the children. Each of our sites has
a staff to child ratio of 1:12. All YMCA staff members are background checked,
CPR and first aid trained, and have taken child abuse prevention courses.
Flexible attendance options and convenient payment plans (Semi-Monthly and
Monthly Draft options) are available. We accept DHS payments for childcare and
have the YMCA scholarship program for those who qualify.
All SAFE students will receive a FREE YOUTH MEMBERSHIP
when they enroll in the SAFE program. Activity Days, Winter
Break, and Spring Break camp are included at no additional
fee for full-time SAFE students (AM/PM - 5 Days). Please stop
by either branch to register your child today!

Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment System is utilized in all

Our research-based curriculum prepares children for
Kindergarten and a lifelong love of learning.
We have a working relationship with both the Plano and

Kindergarten Readiness Goals for ALL children in the
communities we serve.
As Kendall County's largest charity, our non-profit status

FOX VALLEY FAMILY YMCA
EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY | CENTRAL
SIX WEEKS TO AGE FIVE
The YMCA Early Learning Academy provides enriching experiences
that facilitate a child’s cognitive social, physical, and emotional
growth. We use Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies
Gold Assessment Tool, both are research based and designed to
prepare your child for lifelong learning. These strategies focus
on building a classroom community and strengthening social/
emotional skills while integrating content learning in the areas of
math, language and literacy, science, social studies and the arts.
We strive to meet the developmental needs and temperament of
each child by working in partnership with families.
Our child care and preschool, licensed by the State of Illinois,
provide a curriculum focused on education, leadership, and
character development. At the Y we believe that the first five years
of life are the foundation for future success in school and beyond.
We help children develop positive behaviors and values that stay
with them throughout their life. The Early Learning Academy taps
into each child’s unique strengths and interests to help develop
confident learners.
Using the Creative Curriculum in both our child care and preschool
gives parents the option for full day, full year care OR half day
preschool. The Early Learning Academy offers the perfect balance
of learning through play and intentional teaching. Using science,
social studies and “first hand” experiences as a segue to learning,
children develop confidence, creativity, and critical thinking skills
necessary for Kindergarten.

EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY
FULL DAY / FULL YEAR
0-3 YEARS PROGRAM
FULL DAY OR HALF DAY
PRESCHOOL 3-5 YEARS PROGRAM
In the infant classroom, our primary emphasis is meeting
the infant’s daily needs and providing a safe, nurturing, and
stimulating environment. Children are provided experiences
that foster and develop their cognitive, social/emotional,
and motor skills while encouraging their independence.
Infants are engaged in developmentally appropriate toys,
books, stories and finger plays throughout the day. They are
learning through routines and attachments to their caregivers.
Infant daily nap and meal schedule are based on the infant’s
individual needs.
The three to five year old classrooms focus on the growth
and development of the whole child: physically, intellectually,
emotionally and socially. Activities and classroom centers are
oriented to the child’s interest and developmental levels. Our
three to five year olds are able to make choices in a variety
of areas including: art and sensory activities, dramatic play,
stories and books, music and movement, fine and large motor
development and much more.
INFANT PROGRAM {6 weeks - 15 months 1:4 Ratio}
TODDLERS {16-24 months 1:5 Ratio}
In the toddler classroom, children are introduced to a more
structured and regular routine. Children are provided an
environment that encourages exploration and curiosity
through child-initiated and teacher-guided activities.
Toddlers have opportunities to make choices in art, sensory,
exploration, problem-solving, music, books, self-help skills,
and interactive play. The toddler classroom provides a rest
time as part of the daily schedule.
TWOS {1:8 Ratio}
In the two’s classroom, the children discover a stimulating
environment arranged into various interest and learning
centers. Our goal for our two year olds include: developing
valuable self-help skills such as potty training, personal
hygiene, dressing self and putting toys away. We also focus on
building cognitive skills, such as counting, sorting, recognizing
letters, colors and shapes. Another important skill we work
on is interacting with others. We have many opportunities
for sharing, listening and taking turns. The two’s classroom
provides a rest time as part of the daily schedule.
THREES, FOURS & FIVES {1:10 Ratio}
Our program builds the foundation and prepares children
for those skills needed in Kindergarten. Math, science,
language areas, and pre-reading and writing are emphasized.
In addition, children learn important classroom skills such
as taking turns, sharing and cooperation as well as learning
to develop socially acceptable behaviors and positive social
relationships through cooperative play.
Explorers must be three years old by September 1.
Investigators must be four years old by September 1.

GYMNASTICS
FOX VALLEY FLYERS
The Fox Valley Flyers is a competitive gymnastics team that competes in YMCA and USAG meets. The Flyers have the
opportunity to qualify for YMCA Nationals each year. Last year the Flyers traveled to Tampa, Florida to compete in the YMCA
National Gymnastics Competition and this summer the competition will be held in Wichita, Kansas. The Flyers Team consists
of levels three through eight and has approximately 40 gymnasts competing. Team try-outs are held each year in June as a
part of our annual Summer Gymnastics Camp. All gymnasts that would like to be considered for the competition team must attend camp to be
evaluated by the entire team coaching staff (see our Camp section on page 26 for Gymnastics Camp information). For additional information
please contact Gymnastics Director Karen Oelker at [email protected].
The Flyers are coached by: Karen Oelker, Chloé Oelker, Tiffany Haag, and Kathleen Lavery, Dani Iorfida, Brook Stuepfort, and Amy Killey. Our
goal as coaches is to not only make this a strong, winning team, but to teach our girls the importance of working together and supporting each
other. We believe what they learn here will stay with them long after their gymnastics careers.

Flyers has meant a lot to her
and she says, "I have made
many good friends throughout
my gymnastics career. As my
career comes to a close, I
am grateful to have had this

assistance I have received from
my coaches and parents. I am

It has been hard work, but with the support of my

GIVE, JOIN, VOLUNTEER, AND DO SO MUCH MORE.
At the Y, we strengthen communities by ensuring our neighbors have the same opportunities to learn,

senior fitness classes create community and support independence, health and fitness programs foster
well-being, and family programs create connections and promote fun.
This is our commitment at the Y, but we can’t do it alone. We count on the generosity of our members
