Program for Teachers
Teachers who join the project,
Curriculum for EARTH-CENTERED SCHOOLS, will work with
other professionals interactively. Using the recent discoveries/thinking inherent in cosmology and the ideas of Functional Cosmology
(Berry), teachers will develop new ways and models for thematic units of study.
The units will use philosophical and psychological reasoning that is grounded in
contemporary scientific understandings and which promote problem solving and
critical thinking. Thematic units will be grade-level, content specific, experiential, and differentiated. In creating thematic models of study that are cognizant
of recent cosmological discourse and discoveries, teachers will promote human
growth for education (Pilon) and change educational discourse and delivery.
Programs for Students
Students who enroll in the project, Curriculum for EARTHCENTERED SCHOOLS, will participate in piloting curricular units of study. Their
creative input will facilitate multi-aged and real life perceptions
and create opportunities for involvement by diverse learners.
Students will integrate ecological knowledge/principles with
hands-on, age-appropriate, and experiential activities; such as,
planting, growing, teaching, and caring for self-selected group
projects.
The curriculum utilizes an Earth-centered theory (Lydon).
