Earthship Workshop in Germany, Cologne
Be part of a hands-on community workshop in Cologne where we will build the first
self-sustainable building according to the Earthship concept in Germany.
This will be a great educational opportunity especially for those who seek to learn
about basic Earthship design principles, construction methods and philosophy.
By building a Simple Survival Model you will learn how to apply the six core principles
of the Earthship concept, learn about organizing and staging a project and be part of
the first Earthship building in Germany.

Event Hosts & Timeframe
Earthship Biotecture Europe (EBE) will be hosting the workshops from April 20th to
Ma 17th (1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks in total). The Simple Survival Model will happen
through two phases and we are currently looking for people to join us for both phases
of this project.
The project is designed and led by Earthship Biotecture Europe. The construction onsite will be carried out and led by Earthship Biotecture Europe in partnership with the
EasyEarthshipCrew (see Instructors below).
Phase I – Aims to enclose the structure (finishing roof, floor & walls) and to apply and
install the following systems:
•
Heating & cooling through thermal – Burial on the north side, building a tire
wall, installing thermal wrap and a passive ventilation system based on natural
convection (needs no fuel).

Water catchment system – details for chanelling and collecting water from the
roof & installing a cistern (water collection tank)
Phase II – Adding two greenhouses, shower, toilet and electric systems.
Location
Construction will be happen on the school ground of the comprehensive school in
Holweide (Address: Burgwiesenstraße 125, 51067 Cologne, Germany).
The School is located in the Northeast of Cologne and can be reached easily via
metro, bus and car.
It´s only 10 km from the central station, approx. 30 min by metro, 15 min by car.
How to get there
You will have to arrange your own flight to the airport or your own train ticket and get
to Cologne by yourself.
From the airport „Köln/Bonn“ or the central station of Cologne we can arrange pickup
to the accomadations.
Detailed information about how to get to the site and the accomadations will be sent
to you once you sign up.
Schedule
We will build, work and hold talks/ lectures 5 days per week. A detailed schedule will
be sent to you once you sign up.
Team & Workshop Instructors
The project is designed and led by Earthship Biotecture Europe.
The workshop and construction work will be led by Moein Nodehi and Daniel
Petschel in cooperation with the EasyEarthshipCrew.
Both Moein and Daniel are graduated Earthship Academy students, experienced
builders and certified Biotects.
The EasyEarthshipCrew are Jens Beyer, Jens Thedinga, Benjamin Eismar and
Simon Schösser. All 4 participated in the Academy Session on the Easter Islands in
2014 and are on their way to graduate the Earthship Academy
