WALK WITH YOUR DOC
On May 14th join your local BV Clinic doctors for the
second annual “Walk With Your Doc”.
All ages and abilities are welcome to join

 Store your garbage and recycling in a secure and
enclosed area to prevent access to the bears;
 Make sure your compost bin is moist and well ventilated;
 Limit or remove bird feeders;
 Do not leave ripe fruit on trees and remove any unwanted

DO YOU KNOW...
How to keep metal faucets gleaming? Rub the faucets with wax paper, this will shine your faucets and last for a few days.
How to keep your greens fresh longer? Wash and dry your lettuce, grapes, green onions, celery, etc., then place a folded paper towel in the
bottom of a container or ziplock bag, place the greens in the container and then top them with another folded paper towel. The paper towel will
absorb the moisture helping to keep food fresh for days.
AGE FRIENDLY LUNCH
On sunny Tuesday April 14th we greeted 168 seniors at our ‘THANKS FOR BEING OUR SENIORS’ lunch. To start the day off right were my MIRACLE MEN, Howard
Lee, Doug Green, Bud Barrett, Roy Plummer and Vern Womacks, who came to set-up the hall! Thank you! To Larry Fitzpatrick, Carolyn Womacks, Joan Green and
Joyce Buckler, you rock in the kitchen! Without your hard work and dedication this lunch could never happen, so thank you! Then we have our servers who do not
stop moving from the moment they arrive. Thank you Heather Underwood, Mayor Patricia and Vicki Horbul for mentoring our energetic, eager, and smiling
Fruitvale Elementary students Gillian Leslie, Lloyd Aikenhead, Macy Verigin, Joseph Issel, Brooklyn Kokiw and Emma Schroder. To each of the students, thanks for
brightening our day. Ted Pahl, Nancy Crockett, and Deb Nelson from Kootenay Savings Credit Union came to give us all an opportunity to hear from them and
answer our questions regarding KSCU $2.00 statement charge. Thanks to both Marinos and Liberty Foods for your continued support.
The next Age Friendly lunch will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at 12:30 pm at the Fruitvale Memorial Center. Please register your attendance by calling
HILDA 250.367.9960, KOERT (pronounced Kirt) 250.367.9835 and DAVE or IRMA 250.367.6185 ON OR BEFORE May 15, 2015.
COFFEE WITH VICKIE
Our April coffee gathering was action packed. Thank you to Patti Leggett from Parkinson's Support Group for enlightening us on what Parkinson's is and what it is
not. We had the pleasure of being served by Ally Mason, Bethany Worsnop, Abbé Teasdale, Allie Renzie and Joseph Issel...thanks for your hard work and your
smiling faces. Thank you to Diane Kniss for the delicious cookies. The AF group decided that any beds in the GROWING OUR ROOTS community garden that are
not spoken for this year will be planted by and for the food bank. Other topics discussed were two Columbia Basin Trust grants Vickie applied for, one for our
THANKS FOR BEING OUR SENIORS lunch, and the other for special events. On Friday we had an extra meeting with Ted Pahl and Nancy Crockett from Kootenay
Savings Credit Union regarding working together to find a resolution that will work for our seniors with regards to the $2.00 charge for paper statements.
The next Coffee with Vickie will be held on Monday, May 11 at 10:30 am in the Club Room of the Fruitvale Memorial Centre. All seniors are welcome to attend.
