User Success: BIM adoption within the Water Industry

As the new AMP6 gets under way, Southern Water has taken a new approach to bring the Front End Engineering Design process in house and have chosen the Bentley suite of tools to help them do so. In addition to this Southern Water are endeavoring to adopt a BIM style approach to the execution of more than 500 individual projects over the next five years and hope to apply some of the techniques learned from the collaboration with external 3rd parties to bring efficiencies to the asset management activities too. Adopting BIM within the process industry is a daunting task requiring co‐operation across the industry, between water companies, delivery partners, suppliers and manufacturers.

The four buildings share a common basement and a new landscaped public Garden Square. The tallest building, 1 Merchant Square, is a 42‐story mixed‐
use tower, and is situated on the only site in Westminster’s Unitary Development Policy (UDP) designated for a tall building. Through the integration of GenerativeComponents, AECOsim, and Navigator, Robin Partington& Partners will demonstrate how Bentley software was instrumental in developing the project from concept to construction, paying particular attention to the tower building.
