SYSTEM OVERVIEW The FusionM® In-Line Coating (ILC) System is a significant advancement in coating systems technology. Using cutting edge processing techniques, Quantum has designed a system that, for the first time, creates truly linear manufacturing in AR and mirror coating. The continuous process platform utilizes multiple coating techniques to deposit thin film materials simultaneously and concurrently, which provides very fast throughput. The FusionM is designed for continuous coating of individual uncut lenses in small, dedicated chambers. Each chamber’s function is directly related to a corresponding coating step, for instance: Loadlock/cleaning ● Deposition layer(s) ● Oleophobic layer ● Non-slip overcoat Due to the fact that each chamber is performing its function independent of the other chambers, the process is truly performed concurrently. The simultaneous nature of the system allows for very fast throughput. FUNCTIONALITY The lens is fixtured and placed into the load bay of the system. The process is selected on drawn into the system. the touch screen and the fixture is The system then automatically performs the coating steps and coating thicknesses as designed in the process. Once the coating process is complete, the fixture is discharged to the outfeed. THROUGHPUT* Anti Reflective (AR) only 80 jobs CONSUMABLE EXPENSE* Anti Reflective (AR) $3.50/pair COATING QUALITY* Water Contact Angle 114 or higher Mirror Only 160 jobs Flash Mirror Front/AR Back $2.50/pair Bayer AR Coating 3-10 SHP Only 225 jobs Flash Mirror Front Only $1.25/pair Bayer Mirror Coating 2-6** SuperHydro (SHP) Only >$1.00/pair Real Life Simulation 4.22 *Depends on lens and coating process specs **Most other mirrors do not have a Bayer rating PROCESS CAPABILITY The benefits of the FusionM are many. The following table highlights some important features, specifications and subsystem details for the innovative FusionM system. Feature Flexibility Low Inventory Need Multiple AR and Mirror capabilities Multiple Technology Approach Makes ANY Coating Three Material Platform Single Lens Processing Easy to Use Linear Flow Remotely Controlled Data Logging Lens Sensor Limited Maintenance PLC Control Low Cost of Ownership Green Technology Can Be Located in Most Environments Benefits Ability to meet wide range of customer needs, creates wide market reach, eliminates volume needs and allows for capture one-off-jobs Less capital tied up in inventory which can be used to grow other segments of the business Flexibility in AR offering, faster turnaround time and better durability All for PVD, CVD, corona method, thermal evaporation, glow discharge and ion source Unlimited design capability, increases ability to offer any brand, rebrand, any color or custom coating on demand Flexibility in coating design Dramatic reduction in WIP and inventory, increased production on a per SKU basis, greatly reduced product loss when outside interference (power loss, etc.) occurs and increased flexibility in coating colors offered, as the process can be changed for each fixture Low impact on labor and pain free training Lean manufacturing Faster tech response, troubleshooting and remote repair Continual monitoring for improved performance, problem tracking, troubleshooting and trend analysis Allows for automatic process adjustment due to substrate, lens position and base curve; no manual adjustment or process needed; increases speed; ease of use; provides index and base curve specific coating Limits downtime The operator controls the system via a touch screen that is linked to the onboard PLC, which runs all aspects of the process. The PLC is programmed to control each chamber in line or, if necessary, individually Faster ROI Low energy consumption and low carbon footprint No additional costs for “clean room” Saves power: dead stop to complete job in under 30 minutes; after power-up, system is ready to start process in less than 8 minutes Only “On” When in Use Low cost footprint as less electricity is used Remote Install of Process Process and brand expansion at low cost and time Easy installation and setup (goes through man door), easy to relocate Small Size fits in small spaces Quick Start-up All in One Quiet Multi Chamber Approach Load Lock System Fast Cycle Time Evaporation Subsystems Co-Deposit Capable Robotic Interface Input and Output Adaptable to Any Technology Fixturing Subsystem Pumping Subsystem All ancillary equipment is co-located, reducing footprint and expense Retail ready Greater throughput Allows for the lens to be brought to process pressure and/or glow etched prior to entering the deposition chamber, increases speed and minimizes chamber cleaning Can process a fully coated (both sides) pair of lenses in less than 10 minutes The system uses multiple technologies as needed to achieve the rate and performance characteristics of the desired thin film. The system simultaneously co-deposits in multiple chambers, which allows for layers to be deposited at the same time “in-line” Optimizes thin film Allows for automation Allows for manual use while providing the ability to interface with other devices upstream or downstream The fixture wheel holds the lens in “free space” to allow for simultaneous front and backside coating, while the PLC automatically controls the fixture wheel’s progression through the system Consists of a multi-zone approach, allowing for independent venting and roughing of some chambers while other zones are continuously in vacuum. Chambers requiring high vacuum utilize turbomolecular pump technology Reduced power consumption Compared to box coater, the FusionM will save operating expenses LMS Interface The FusionM is the ONLY AR Coating System that interfaces with ANY Lens Management System A coating system that provides this kind of FLEXIBILITY AND produces lenses at this speed is an incredible combination. “I would buy three FusionM machines before I would buy a box coater due to the flexibility it offers my lab.” Marv Calahan, President, Vision Craft, Inc.
