FEDERATION OF VICTORIAN TRADITIONAL OWNER CORPORATIONS WELCOMES
GOVERNMENT’S COMMITMENT TO INDIGENOUS PROCUREMENT
The Federation of Victorian Traditional Owner Corporations (Federation) today welcomed the
Federal Government’s announcement of a 3% target for Indigenous procurement.
Federation Chairperson, Janine Coombs said :’ setting targets will go some way towards
levelling the playing field for Indigenous corporations and will create a demand for Indigenous
suppliers that our members are ready to meet.’
The Federation supported the adoption of targets in its submission to the Forrest Review
‘Creating Parity’ as a way of growing future partnership opportunities.
‘We would have preferred to see targets related to the percentage of spend rather than the
number of contracts, but we commend this announcement as a great step forward’ Ms Coombs
said.
The Federation now looks forward to working with the Victorian Government to develop and
implement a State approach to preferential procurement. At present Victoria is one of the few
States that does not have a policy in place.
