The day will offer keynote speakers on the reform, shared discussion and presentations on the key messages from emerging evidence and research base. The aim of the day will be to explore: What will be different for families under the new system? How might these changes show up in our work with families? What do these changes mean for how we engage with and support families in their child protection rights and responsibilities? The day will offer Aboriginal specific expert advice on the potential impacts of the reforms for Aboriginal families and community and a culturally based discussion panel to explore on the ground issues for workers. The aim for the day will be to explore: How do the impacts of past history of stolen generation, removal and over representation in the child protection system fit within the new framework? What are likely to be the direct impact on families and community and how are these best managed and supported by workers and the service system as a whole? What special considerations need to be held at the center of practice to minimise any ongoing injustice and inequality or other negative impacts on Aboriginal families and community? What are the key messages for supporting the safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal children in ways that best support cultural identity, connection and family and community resilience and healing?
