The group was initiated in 2005 by members of the Red House Group who had a common interest in fibre arts. With the passage of time the membership of Wild Fibre Artists has gradually changed as newcomers have become integrated with the original core of creative people. In preparing for a new exhibition the group agrees on a common theme and each artist presents a personal interpretation worked in their own style. The artists use a variety of techniques including weaving, fabric collage, stitch, basketry, felting, leatherwork and papermaking. They work independently but enjoy exhibiting together and building on their diversity of expertise. Some group members have recently travelled overseas and they have used their adventures to inform their work. Other group members have found inspiration closer to home and local surroundings. This exhibition offers a vibrant display of wall hangings, sculptured pieces, mixed media works and art to wear. ‘Patterns and Places’ catalogue Page 2 of 2
