HappyFeet Soccer
HappyFeet Rochester is part of the growing family of HappyFeet programs that started in Kansas City. It is not a surprise
that so many young children have fun with HappyFeet every week! Designed to promote physical fitness, soccer skills,
and most importantly, to have fun, our trained coaches hold classes each week with a structured curriculum to teach the
fundamentals of soccer. In a thirty minute class, your soccer star learns ball control, balance, and soccer moves. Our
“Story Time with a Soccer Ball” has your child singing songs, playing games and going on adventures! They play with their
teammates and their new friend, Bob the Bobcat (our super-cute yellow soccer balls) during their session each week. We
are sure that you’re little one will be kicking and doing moves all over your house in no time. They will be one step closer to
scoring goals, but most importantly, building confidence and promoting sportsmanship! Check out the HappyFeet Soccer

Learning About Allergies
Safety in the Home
The Allergy Advocacy Association will be presenting a free
informational session. They will provide you with an evidencebased approach to identifying, diagnosing, assessing and
managing anaphylaxis in order to prevent death from severe
allergy reactions. Throughout the presentation, they will
allow time to answer all questions. Your presenter will be Dr.
Theresa Bingemann, a board-certified allergist who joined
the Division of Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology at
Rochester General Health in September, 2006. She has
published important research papers and received awards
at the American College of Allergy and Immunology.
Information from the National Institute on Health (and other
sources) will be shared about the incidence of falls, the
most common reasons for falls and how to best get up; the
warning signs of stroke and what percentage of folks get
help in time for a full recovery; diabetes and how it might lead
to a need for immediate help. In addition, some of the new
and interesting devices in personal emergency response
systems (like the ads on TV where the lady has fallen and
can’t get up) will be shown and it will be explained just how
they work. It’s a serious topic, but there’s fun to be had
during this presentation!

Coaching kids. Not too tough, right? Yeah right. Just ask
anyone who has tried to coach. The question is no longer,
“Should coaches be trained?” but “How should coaches be
trained?” The National Youth Sports Coaches Association
(NYSCA), a nationally recognized coaches training
program, was created in 1981 to help improve out-of-school
sports for over 20 million youth under the age of 16 years.
The national membership program is open to all volunteer
coaches working with children in youth sports. Training
through NYSCA has never been easier. Interested coaches
can complete the NYSCA Online Clinic, which is available
24/7 and a great option for busy volunteer coaches to get the
training they need for a great season! Go to www.nays.org/

Friends of Gates Recreation & Parks
‘Friends’ is a group of individuals
who support the Town of Gates
Recreation and Parks Department.
As a not-for-profit organization, we
are comprised of volunteers who
work towards two complementary
purposes. First, we provide grant
development and procurement efforts to support development
of recreation opportunities and park development in the
Town of Gates. Second, as a group of volunteers we are a
support group for Gates Recreation and Parks events.
The Gates Recreation and Parks Department Staff would
like to extend our thanks to the New York State Office
of Children and Family Services through the RochesterMonroe County Youth Bureau for partial funding of several
of our programs.
Special thanks are given to the Gates Chili School District
for their continual support and cooperation in use of
their facilities, equipment, and athletic instructors. Also
thanks to Rochester Regional Health System Total Sports
Experience for use of their facility.
Joining our group is an excellent opportunity to volunteer a
little time for something that can have a lasting impact. For
more information, call Linda Fowler at 247-6100, ext. 235.
Special thanks are also extended to the Gates Town
Board, Gates Recreation and Parks Commission and

This July we’re celebrating 30 years of Park and Recreation
Month and the enduring importance of parks and recreation
for the world. From the start, parks were created to serve the
people – to give them a place to appreciate nature, exercise,
socialize and have fun. This mission lives on and will
continue to intensify into the future. This July, let’s celebrate
the past, present and future of parks and recreation! Go to
www.nrpa.org/July.
