Head`s Newsletter - The Gatwick School

NEWSLETTER - 22nd May 2015
HEAD OF SCHOOL MESSAGE
The First half of the Summer Term has gone by in a flash. Both Year
7 and reception has grown to over 40 students in each Year group.
May has proved to be very democratic month here at The Gatwick
school. The pupils have voted for the House Captains and Sports
Captains , who will represent them for the next 12 months. In the
first week of June we will be holding interviews for the students who
have applied for a role on the School Council. The Friends of Gatwick
School, PTA Association, held their first meeting this month as did
the Local Governing Body.
Peacocks and Penguins learn about life
cycles with butterflies.
Reception have worked hard this term learning about
life cycles. They have planted sunflowers and a butterfly garden and seen small seeds become seedlings, then
shoots and hopefully after half term, flowers. We also
have some radish, strawberries and potatoes growing.
The children have taken care of caterpillars, from small,
thin caterpillars to big, fat caterpillars. They hung themselves onto the top of our jar and wrapped themselves in
cocoons before coming out as Butterflies earlier this
week. On the last day of the half term we released the
butterflies and the children were very excited discussing
how far they might go.

Reception Pupil arrival in the morning
In our final half term we would like to ask all Reception parents to make sure their
children collect their things from their parents before they come onto the ramp and
come into school independently.
Water Bottle Reminder
I would like to request that, all students continue to bring in a water bottle to school
that they can refill at the water points, especially in the heat of the Summer term.
Lost Property
Please also check that all children’s uniform and equipment is clearly named. Items
that are found without a name are kept in our lost property box.
“Ye Olde Gatwykke “
As Students were transported to the medieval era they developed a character, and
shared both interesting historical facts &
some creative interpretation including the
improvised use of costumes and props to
convey what life was like in a feudal society. It was really pleasing to see how our
Year 7 students all worked collaboratively
to put the event together. It showed great
teamwork and they all shared interesting
historical facts in an engaging manner.
Well done. The next Paragon Humanities unit will focus on The Renaissance.
