Specialist Donald A. Stoll PS-106 (1929-2015) Don was born February 9, 1929 in Cincinnati, the 2nd son of Carl E. and Marie Stoll of 1633 Vine Street. He attended Hughes High School, graduating in 1947. After high school, Don worked for the Cincinnati Gas and Electric Company repairing gas meters. During June 1948 he began working as an engineering aid on a surveying crew for City of Cincinnati. During May 1948 he took a promotion to the Cincinnati Police Division as a Clerk. Don was promoted again to Police Recruit on December 19, 1950. On March 15, 1951 Patrolman Stoll was assigned to District 4. He left for the military 1¾ years later on December 21, 1952, serving in the United States Army, through Basic Training, for three months and then entering the United States Naval Reserve. Patrolman Stoll returned to the Division on March 9, 1953 and served in Districts 4, 6, and 3. On January 27, 1966, having successfully competed in the Division’s first Police Specialist exam, he was promoted to that rank. Specialist Stoll served in District 3, Crime Bureau, and Inspection Section. He retired July 17, 1982 with 32 years of service to his country and community and 32 letters of appreciation and/or commendation – including four from the police chief. Specialist Stoll passed away at 11 a.m. on May 16, 2015 at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash. He was 86¼ years old. Specialist Stoll was predeceased by his wife, Oleen “Sally” (Stanfill) Stoll and sister-in-law, Shirley (Granville) Cary. He is survived by his children, Curtis (Dawn) Stoll, Catherin (Bill) Kenney, Sandra (Mark) Groll, Ken (Lisa) Stoll, and Thomas (Christy) Stoll; grandchildren, Brett (Nicole), Tara (Lee), Jenna (Josh), Sean (Katherine), Nicole (Brendan), Lauren, Phillip (Rebecca), Nicholas (Stacia), Eric, Lindsay, Kenneth, Sydney (Nick), Taylor, Kiley, Cameron, Corey, Mackenzie, Bo, Austin, Brady, and Sophie; grand-grandchildren, Jack, Harper, and Emma; brother, Allan (Chris) Stoll; and sister-in-law Pat (Paul) Twilling. Visitation will be held 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015 at Linnemann Funeral Home, 30 Commonwealth Avenue in Erlanger. An FOP service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1680 Dixie Highway in Fort Wright.
