Our Updated Mission Statement
The Steering Committee of the Partners for the Environment has updated
their mission statement to more accurately reflect the goals and work of
the organization and its partners. The organization’s new mission is:
DRG Sustainability

Along with Dayton Regional Green, the Partners for the Environment will
host a meeting for all action team members from 10am-3pm on June 23 at
Wegerzyn Gardens and MetroPark. You won’t want to miss this important
networking event!
Partner of the Year Award Nominations
We are now collecting nominations for this year’s Partner of the Year
Awards, which will be presented at our September 23rd Fall Awards Event
at Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm. To nominate an outstanding
organization, person, or community, please complete a form (see page 3).
Nominations are due by September 1.
DRG SUSTAINABILITY LUNCHEON
The Dayton Regional Green Sustainability Luncheon will take place May 14,
11:30am-1:00pm, at the Top of the Market Banquet Center in Dayton. The
theme is “Marketing & Brand Strategy: Business, Local and Global
Implications of Sustainability,” featuring speakers from the City of Oberlin
who will discuss the process of becoming one of 18 Clinton Foundation
Climate Positive Development Program cities.

common goal of protecting, restoring,

environmental
and
agricultural
resources of the Great Miami River and
Little Miami River Watersheds – an 18
county region in southwest Ohio.

LITTLE MIAMI UPDATES
Little Miami River Kleeners Meeting
The next upcoming Little Miami River Kleeners meeting will take place May
12 at 5pm in the Sugarcreek Township Administration building.
Little Miami Watershed Network Meeting
The newly formed Little Miami Watershed Network will meet May 26 at the
Caesar Creek Visitor Center from 10am-12pm. All groups who are interested
in protecting the watershed and educating others on the importance of
doing so are welcome to come. For more information, contact Hope Taft at

Kleen Sweep 2015
Join the Little Miami River Kleeners at Kleen Sweep 2015, its canoe and
bank-based cleanup on June 6th from 8am-noon, with a picnic and festivities
from 1-3pm. Individual and group volunteer registration is available. Please
visit the Little Miami River Kleeners website here for more information.
FUNDRAISING WORKSHOP
Nonprofit FOCUS will host “Principles and Techniques of Fundraising” in
conjunction with the Indiana University Indianapolis Lilly Family School of
Philanthropy on May 21 or May 22 from 9am-5pm (both days will cover the
same content) at the Wright State University Student Union.

ACTION TEAM MEETINGS
The Partners for the Environment is collaborating with the Dayton
Regional Green Initiative to increase the success of our partner
organizations through action teams, which allow partners with similar
interests to share information and resources and to work together

FOOD TEAM
The mission of Food Team is to support access to sustainably produced
local food, and promote community education and involvement.
Next meeting: Tuesday May 5, 9-11am, Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark.

LAND TEAM
The mission of the Land Team is to preserve and protect the land
resources of the Great and Little Miami River watersheds while supporting
responsible development and redevelopment of our area.
Next Meeting: Thursday May 14, 2-4pm, Deeds meeting room at the
Miami Conservancy District.

WILDLIFE & HABITAT TEAM
The Wildlife and Habitat Team is working to implement the Lights Out
Miami Valley program.
Next Meeting: Monday May 15, 3:30-5pm at Aullwood Audubon Center.

Nomination Form
The Partners for the Environment’s Partner of the Year Awards celebrate those who
work to protect, preserve, and restore the environmental and agricultural resources of the Great Miami
River and Little Miami River watersheds. The Awards recognize some of our victories and honors those
who provide us with leadership and inspiration.

Works in the geographic area of the Great Miami River and/or Little Miami River watersheds.

Any organization who in the past 12 months represents some or all of the criteria listed above. Previous

Any individual (board member, staff, volunteer, or private citizen) who in the past 12 months represents
some or all of the criteria listed above while working with an organization. Previous Individual of the

NEW in 2015! - The Sustainable Community of the Year Award
Any political jurisdiction that made significant progress during the last 12 months to become more
sustainable. Sustainable actions include but are not limited to: enacting development policies that encourage
installation of green infrastructure; protecting open space, farmland, or natural habitats; increasing public
access to nature; reducing discharges from stormwater or wastewater; increasing recycling and waste
reduction programs; sourcing local food; creating complete streets; developing urban service boundaries.
Application Deadline
Anyone is eligible to submit a nomination. To nominate yourself or another individual for 2014, please
submit the following information no later than September 1, 2015. Nominations will be reviewed by a
panel of community organization representatives.

1. Your name and contact information – including phone and email.
2. The Nominee’s name and contact information.
3. Which award you are nominating them. Please select one of the following:
o Partner of the Year Award (organization)
o Individual of the Year Award
o Jean V. Woodhull Lifetime Achievement Award
o Sustainable Community of the Year Award
4. A one page description of how the nominee meets the Criteria. Tell us about your nominee
and how they meet the criteria. Narrative may be up to one page in length. Please attach any
supporting documentation.
5. Any supporting documentation to validate your nomination.
