I certify that the contest entry is the Author’s original work. ___________________________________________________________________ Parent’s Signature _______________ Date GENERATION A Writer’s Contest Rules The GENERATION A Writer’s Contest is produced by GENERATION A: Publishing Authors under 18 (the “Contest” or “Promotion”). Contest Eligibility Entrants must be in 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, or 11th grade. Children of employees of GENERATION A or parent companies and judges are not eligible. To be eligible, an entrant must be a legal resident of the fifty (50) United States and D.C. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify ineligible entries; such entries will not be returned. A ten dollar ($10.00) Entry fee is required to participate and is non-refundable. Contest Entry Guidelines Only single author stories qualify (no co-authored stories). All text must be in English. Stories can be fact or fiction, and prose or poetry. Stories must have a minimum of 250 words and a maximum of 6,000 words. Text must be printed, written legibly, or typed. Text may be integrated into the illustration pages or on separate pages. Illustrations are not required to participate. Illustrations should be the original art of the author and can include drawings or collages created by the author or photographs taken by the author. The Contest administrators will not return entries. Please keep a copy of your entry. GENERATION A, is not responsible for late, lost, corrupted, damaged, mutilated, incomplete or illegible entries. Official Entry Form Entries can be submitted online at GenerationA.us. Mailed entries must be received on or before August 1, 2015 and mailed to GENERATION A Publishing, P.O. Box 7584, Largo, MD 20792. Each entry must include the official GENERATION A Writer’s Contest Entry Form, with the required signature of a parent/legal guardian, confirming that the Author’s story and artwork are original. Online entries must be submitted Microsoft Word or PDF format. No exceptions. All fields on the entry form must be completed in order to be eligible. The $10.00 entry fee must be submitted to be eligible. Judging, Awards & Notification Winners will be notified via email. GENERATION A will empanel a jury of no fewer than 3 judges. Submissions will be judged on the following criteria: • • • 40% Creativity and originality of plot and/or themes, 40% Story structure and use of literary devices, 20% Relevance, quality and originality of illustration All decisions of the judges are final and not subject to appeal or review. Any ties will be broken using the creativity and originality category. Winners will be notified on or before August 31, 2015. Each winner will be posted on the Web site at GenerationA.us. Prizes Prizes include a GENERATION A publishing contract for the first place winner. (Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”) $3,000.00 USD), a tablet computer (ARV $200 USD) for the second place winner, and an eReader (ARV $100 USD) for the third place winner. GENERATION A reserves the right to substitute any prize for a prize of equal or greater value, at the sole discretion of GENERATION A. Prize recipients must allow a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks from notification to delivery. Prizes are not redeemable for cash, nontransferable, and non-substitutable, except at the sole discretion of Sponsor. Rights Associated with Contest Submission of the Entry Form constitutes permission for GENERATION A to use the participants’ name, likeness, biographical information and materials contained in the Entry Form, photographs, and any statements or remarks made about the Contest in advertising and promotion without further compensation or permission, except where prohibited by law. All entries, and any copyrights therein, become the sole property of GENERATION A. By entering, entrants agree to abide by the above stated rules, and warrant that their entry is their original work and does not infringe upon or violate rights of any third party, and grant to GENERATION A the right to edit, publish, promote, and otherwise use their entry materials without permission, notice or compensation. No royalties will be paid at this or any time. By submitting an Entry Form, each participant (and parent or guardian) agree to be bound by these Contest Rules. GENERATION A reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate, suspend or otherwise cancel the Contest at any time. Income and all other taxes are the responsibility of the prize recipient. GENERATION A is not responsible for any expenses incurred in connection with participation in the Contest. These contest rules are subject to modification. This promotion is void where prohibited.
