Clubhouse Corner
Hello Members Spring seems to finally be here! Let’s hope this weather lasts and we can all be
outside and get some fresh air. The golf course is open and I am getting anxious to
dust off my clubs. April will be the beginning of a busy several months for Geneva,
so come and enjoy your club.
We have several events in April, starting with our Easter Egg Hunt for the kids on
Saturday, April 4th. If you aren’t already planning to bring the kids out, get them out
of the house and enjoy the weekend weather with this fun filled event. Easter
Brunch is on Sunday, April 5th. Bring your families out for a spectacular brunch by
Chef Tess.
On Saturday, April 25th Midwest Dueling Pianos are back! This will be an event you
will not want to miss…this time we are having a vodka tasting the same night. This is
sure to be a fun event. Reservations are almost full, so get your table in today.
There are several renovations going on that we are excited to announce. The pool
will be undergoing some much needed updating and we are excited to kick off this
project. We will also be outfitting the patio outside of the West Lounge. We are
excited about this new space addition and look forward to it being used a lot this
spring and summer.
I wanted to thank Greg Jenkins and the Muscatine Chamber of Commerce for
allowing Geneva to cater their annual event at the Hotel Muscatine. We’ve gotten
some great feedback and want to thank the Chamber for the opportunity. It turned
out great.
I am looking forward to a busy spring and summer. Hope to see you all soon.

A Note from Your New Assistant Pro
Hello,
My name is Travis Kruse. I grew up in the small town of Colesburg, IA on a golf course that my
parents have managed for the past 22 years. Growing up in the golf business it was a clear choice
of what I wanted to do as I got older. Since graduating high school, I have worked at various
courses such as Blue Top Ridge and Ellis Golf Course. At Ellis, the Head Golf Professional at the
time was Dustin Miller, he was very influential in getting me started into the “Pro-side” of things as
opposed to the maintenance side. During the last couple of months of my time at Ellis I started the
process of getting registered into the PGA program!
In 2009 I met my wife, Jessica, and we have been married since April 2010. In the winter of 2010,
I had received a job with the maintenance crew at Alaqua Country Club in Orlando, Florida. This
was a great experience, however it just solidified that I wanted to be on the pro-side of things.
After coming back to Iowa the following year I had taken over the Assistant Manager position at my
home course, Lone Pine Country Club. At Lone Pine I was in charge of Tournament Operations and
also assisted in the processes that come with the food and beverage industry. In January 2012 my
wife and I welcomed our daughter, Giulliana. I continued to work at Lone Pine for the next two
seasons until we moved to Germany in October later that year.
After a trial visit to Germany in the Spring of 2012, I met with Head Professional David Thomas at
Golfpark Gut Huehnerhof, whom luckily was from Australia and spoke English! David showed me
the way to the PGA Apprentice Program through the PGA of Germany. This was not an easy street
however. After an extensive 12 month program to learn the German language, unfortunately I was
unable to complete the PGA program in Germany. In January 2013, our daughter was diagnosed
with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. After her diagnosis we moved back to the states and began
treatments in Iowa City. Thankfully to a rigorous chemotherapy program she has been cancer-free
for the past eight months! Also just this past December we welcomed our son, Max, to the world.
I am extremely thankful to be offered this position and look forward to meeting everybody at
Geneva and learning a great deal from Steve!

Chef’s Dish
Hello Members!
It has been great to have some sunshine and warmer days after the
winter we’ve had! I love the spring and all that comes with it. I am very excited to
see all of you with your families for our Easter brunch, and we have a great menu
planned for you. We always enjoy being a part of your holiday celebrations.
This month marks one year that I’ve been Geneva’s Executive Chef, and it was a
great year! I have a great team of culinary staff who are very dedicated to the
members of Geneva, and I couldn’t ask for a better crew. With that being said, I’d
like to announce that I have decided to hire Michael Keller as my
Sous Chef. Michael is a great asset to our team, and we are all very excited for
him. If you’ve never met him, please introduce yourself the next time you see him
out at the club!
As we move into spring and summer, I look forward to seeing you out on the
course and at the clubhouse!
Cheers,
Chef Tess
