Curbing/Sidewalks
Last year the Village started,
what we hope to be, an annual
curbing project. Each year the
Village will undertake a curbing
project that fits into the budget
and timeline for the summer
months. We are hoping to concentrate on the most traveled
areas in town first. Last year
the area around the Legion was
tackled. We are in the planning
stages for this year’s project:
Sycamore Street Leo Street going east.
Our Maintenance Department
will also be finishing up the
sidewalk project on Hanover
Street.
Going to be a busy summer—
let’s hope for great weather!
COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT
DONATION
A big thank-you goes out to
the Community Development
Organization for their $3,000
donation toward the purchase
of an in-car camera for our
police car!
ZONING PERMITS
The Village requires a building
permit for all structures, even
sidewalks, patios and driveways.
Please call the Village Hall at 523
-4243 or go to the website and
download the application.
DRIVE IN ROAD
PROJECT
The Village will be undertaking a large project at the
entrance of Drive In Road off
Hwy 161 this summer/fall.
With the development of the
Commercial District on
Drive-In Road and the additional large vehicle traffic,
the entrance has deteriorated and needs some attention. This project will be a
time consuming project and
a disruption to the normal
traffic flow. Please be patient! The Village appreciates your tolerance and understanding!

STREET & SIDEWALK
In 2014 the Illinois legislature extended the life of TIF District #1
to 35 years and the Village developed
TIF District #2 (23 years).
TIF stands for Tax Increment
Financing. A tax increment is the
difference between the amount of
property tax revenue generated before TIF district designation and the
amount of property tax revenue generated after TIF designation. Tax rates
do not change when a TIF is created.
TIF Districts do not increase taxes!
TIF uses the assessed valuations of property taxes that new development generates to finance costs
related to the development of public
infrastructure costs.
A few projects the Village
has used TIF funds: to entice and retain businesses, development of Wa-
ter Well #5, 2 separate Emergency
Storm Sirens, Donau Ditch improvements, Street lighting around Lake,
Sanitary sewer improvements, Hanover Street renovation, Hanover Street
drainage improvements from Donau
Ditch south, Emergency Generator at
Legion for storm shelter, grants to
schools (Germantown Elementary,
Central HS and Kaskaskia College),
grants to Germantown Taxing bodies,
Locust Street storm sewer upgrades,
and many more infrastructure projects.
TIF Districts are complicated
and confusing! The Village of Germantown is proud of the accomplishments
made to our Village using TIF Funds!
Please stop in any time and we will do
our best to explain Germantown’s TIF
District!

Going on Vacation?
STORM SEWER ISSUES
Please do NOT blow grass or leaves onto the
street or into the storm sewers. The debris
clogs the storm sewers and causes back-ups in
heavy rains. Thank you for your cooperation.
The Debris Yard is available for YARD
WASTE ONLY. No paper bags, recycle bags,
boxes, trash bags, etc. are allowed. The Debris
Yard is open to INCORPORATED VILLAGE
RESIDENTS ONLY!! The Village monitors a
security camera system daily to keep illegal
dumpers out.
The Village will be negotiating a new trash contract
this summer. We will keep you informed of any changes. For more info, call the Village Hall at 523-4243.
RECYCLE BUILDING
Our recycling center is one of the most used centers in the area. Since we opened it we have been at or near its capacity almost
every week and many weeks we are literally overflowing. This why
it is so very important to break down any boxes you may bring to
the center and only bring items that are recyclable. Household
trash and other non-recyclable items only add to the quantity of
material that has to be taken to our dumpster leaving less room for
others. The center is there for everyone’s use and if you can do your
part by helping to keep it organized it will go a long way.
