How do we tackle that sentiment? Do we simply cave in and change the Deen or do we change ourselves and the world around us? We have an opportunity to alter the narrative on Islam through our actions and upholding the Islamic identity. Although it is easier said than done, maintaining this identity is crucial to staying steadfast upon your values and moving forward in the right direction. 8:45PM-9:30PM MIST Clinic: Curing the Selfie Syndrome Omar Shareef, Amphitheatre 1 Ever feel compelled to stop your productivity, whip your phone out, take a selfie of yourself, and then snap/tweet/Facebook/IG/email/snailmail/carrierpigeon/smokesignal your beautiful visage to the world? Money, More Problems 10:40AM-11:40AM More Imam Anas Shaikh, Alumni Auditorium Ever heard of the phrase “more money, more problems?” Well it gets more relevant as you progress through life. Money management is an important skill for people of all demographics; whether you’re an 8 year proprietor running your own lemonade stand, or an 80 year old man waiting for the next social security check. Believe it or not, it is also a part of our Deen and the longest ayah in the Qur’an is the ayah of debt (2:282). It is also narrated in Bukhari and Muslim that one of the du’a’s the Prophet (SAWS) used to make at the end of every salah was seeking refuge in Allah from heavy debt. He said, “When a man gets into debt, he speaks and tells lies, and he makes a promise and breaks it.” What practical measures can we take to spend our money wisely? 11 Muslim Inter-Scholastic Tournament New York 2015 Saturday (cont) APRIL 4 the Most of Mental Health 11:45AM-12:45PM Making Maryum Khwaja, Alumni Auditorium Work, school, relationships and obligations can all take a toll on the mental health of a person. As the age of innovation continues to advance, our role in accelerating technology for social good is instrumental. Islam honors those who help others as noted in a hadith of Ahmad “ My love is guaranteed for two who help one another for My sake”. Even if we were to help one person that would be sufficient, as noted in Surah Ma’idah verse 32, “And whoever saves one life - it is as if he had saved all of mankind.” This workshop will begin with a brief introduction to remarkable tools that are changing philanthropy and allowing millions of people in impoverished communities to have better lives. You will then have an opportunity to work in groups and use design thinking principles from Stanford University d.school to create sustainable solutions for water and food shortage, educating women and girls, the energy crisis, increased safety for children, rape, and infectious diseases. 1:30PM-2:40PM 2:50PM-5:10PM (OPEN FOR BROTHERS) (OPEN FOR SISTERS) Dhuhr Salah and Lunch Alumni Auditorium Category IV: Brackets Bowl and Debate - Report to Riverview Lounge (Round 1) MIST Bowl HSC 303, 304, 305, 306, 308, 310, 316, 320 Debate HSC LL209A,LL208A, LL208B, LL109A, LL109B, LL110, LL207, LL210, LL108A Improv Brothers Improv Sisters Alumni Auditorium HSC 401 Math Olympics HSC 301 12 Saturday (cont) APRIL 4 5:20PM-5:40PM Asr Salah 5:50PM-7:00PM The Ikhlas of Interactions Alumni Auditorium Alumni Auditorium Most of us know the importance of having sincerity in our worship of the Creator but what about sincerity with your family, friends, teachers and basically anyone you know and meet?
