Project Manager – Love to Ride Solihull Workplace Cycle Challenge Purpose of Project Manager To implement, manage and support the 2015 ‘Love to Ride Solihull’ Cycle Challenge and ensure project targets are met within the agreed timescale. Background Info A Project Manager is required to join Love to Ride - an innovative social marketing agency that specialises in designing and implementing behaviour change programmes that get more people cycling. The Project Manager will be required to work within the Solihull area, to lead on and develop our best practice ‘Workplace Cycle Challenge’ programme. This programme is to be delivered across the Solihull area in association with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (Solihull MBC). The programme is funded by the Local Sustainable Transport Fund, which is administered by the Department for Transport. For the first time in 2015, Love to Ride are also pulling all UK programmes into one major National Cycle Challenge event – representing a new partnership between Love to Ride, CTC and Cyclescheme. This exciting new tier of activity is also the major event of Bike Week 2015. The Cycle Challenge is a fun, free competition between businesses in Solihull, to see which can encourage the most employees to cycle over a three-week period in June 2015. The organisations and teams that get the highest percentage to ride a bike for just 10 minutes or more will win. Scope of Project Manager The purpose of the Project Manager is to successfully deliver the Solihull Cycle Challenge, by creating and building relationships with key contacts within organisations big and small, encouraging as many organisations, the departments/teams within them and people as possible to take part. The aim is to encourage 50-100+ businesses and 600-1,200+ people to participate, of which 200-400+ participants are ‘new-riders’. The focus will be on utilising existing riders to encourage new or inexperienced riders to ride a bike for the Challenge, participating in both the local - Solihull - and National Cycle Challenge activity. Roles and Responsibilities The primary roles and responsibilities of this role are to: • Act as a central liaison for stakeholders and project partners, developing and maintaining effective working relationships and providing regular progress reports. • Encourage organisations to register and participate in the Challenge. This will involve: contacting potential businesses by phone and in person (sometimes with warm leads, cold leads will also need to be contacted & engaged); giving presentations; meeting with relevant staff & selling in the Challenge concept; running media stunts; distributing flyers to bike shops & co-promoters, on cycle paths & on parked bikes; promotion at local events etc. • Contact and engage local partner organisations and encourage them to promote the Challenge externally to their networks. • Source and manage sponsored incentives and prizes. Love to Ride is a brand created by Challenge for Change © 2015 • Identify suitable ‘Champions’ within participating organisations, develop effective workings relations with them and provide on-going support so that they can promote the Challenge effectively internally and succeed at getting a high number of colleagues participating in the Challenge. • Deliver registration packs to Champions at registered organisations before the Challenge starts and brief all Champions. • Provide excellent customer service to all participants and workplace Champions. • Support ‘try-a-bike’ sessions at participating organisations or in central locations to provide access to bikes and facilitate participant involvement in the Challenge, particularly by new cyclists. • Contact and deliver prizes to the Challenge winners. • Carry out monitoring activities to help evaluate the Challenge e.g. collection of case studies, monitoring numbers at events. • Carry out any other duties defined by the Senior Project Manager that may be necessary to further the aims of the Challenge. Person Specification As a Project Manager, you will be a friendly people person who is excellent at building corporate relationships and capable of presenting and selling the Challenge professionally face to face. An enthusiastic, quality driven self-starter, you will also have a can-do attitude and a structured approach to your work at all times. The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience: • • • • • • • • • • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Strong sales and presentation skills Strong organisational skills, with a target-orientated approach Experience in project management and delivery Dedicated ‘make it happen’ attitude Effective at developing and maintaining relationships at all levels Confident to work independently Knowledge and ability to cycle safely Knowledge of the region and business sector IT literate. Reporting To the Senior Project Manager at Challenge for Change. Location This post is hosted at the offices of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. You will have full support and guidance from the highly experienced Love to Ride project team, based in Bristol. Some home working from home may be necessary and a flexible approach to various working locations is essential. Love to Ride is a brand created by Challenge for Change © 2015 Pay This position is a fixed term contract over a four-month period from April to July 2015, working for at least 40 days at 2-3+ days a week for 15 weeks for a fixed fee of £5,000 plus a performance based bonus of up to £1,000. Full package the equivalent of a £36,400 p.a. pro rata salary.
