Bollywood Dance Flash Mob
in Yau Tsim Mong For A Brighter Life
Exploring Indian dance and
culture
HKU students will have a chance to
explore Indian culture by attending
classes on Bollywood dance
offered by our community partner,
Centre For Community Cultural
Development. After completing the
dance classes by the Centre’s professional Indian dance
instructor, students will be responsible for teaching
marginalized and underprivileged ethnic minorities, disabled
and youngsters in different low-income districts in Hong Kong,
such as Sham Shui Po, Yau Ma Tei and Kwun Tong. Through
the process of teaching and learning, students will explore the
use of body languages, movement and presentations with them
together.
Organizing street performance, spreading
culture and empowering
the underprivileged
In this project, students will acquire
professional dancing skills and
use it as a tool to contribute to the
community, as well as to mobilize
and empower local participants.
Students will be able to work
directly with the youngsters of
diverse age and ethnic backgrounds
in the community. They will be
provided with tools and props to lead the training,
conduct basic dance movement activities, team building games
and warm-up exercises with the community. They will learn and
practice the planning, implementation and development of the
community classes and activities, as well as acquire the skills
in managing the participants’ discipline and morale. At the end
of the dance training for the community, students will organize
the event “Dance Flash Mob” with the community. They will be
responsible for liaising with the community students and their
friends to perform the flash mob, and assist in promoting the
activities.
The project aims to promote public awareness on cultural
diversity, social inclusion and personal empowerment. It
spreads and develops culture in the community. Through the
project, students can develop better understanding of the
daily challenges encountered by the disadvantaged groups.
Students will develop a deeper
understanding and appreciation on
cultural differences and similarities by
participating in and organizing street
performances and other communitybased activities!
