WINTER 2014 Two Additional Areas of Support Coming in 2015 2014 has been a great year. We began a new giving strategy allowing donors to choose which area of the hospital their generous donations would benefit. This donor-centered approach has been well received and has been a tremendous success. We are pleased to announce that in 2015 we are adding two additional areas where you may designate your gifts: Endowment and Greatest Need. TEN AREAS OF SUPPORT FOR DONORS TO DESIGNATE THEIR GIFTS Foundation Names New President For several months, the search committee, which was formed to find the successor to Adam Cook as President of NorthEast Foundation, has worked diligently to fulfill this responsibility. After many hours of searching, reviewing resumes and conducting interviews, it is our pleasure to inform you that Charlie Sastoque has been chosen as our next NorthEast Foundation President. Charlie comes to us from Plano, Texas where he has most recently served as the Executive Director of the Plano Independent School District Education Foundation. In Plano, Charlie worked with a thirty-three member board of directors where he raised funds for educational programs for the city’s school district. In his more than twenty-year CHARLIE SASTOQUE career, Charlie has served in various positions including major gifts officer for various President hospital systems. A native of Baton Rouge, Charlie earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University. Charlie and his wife Tanya have four children. Charlie’s official start date is January 5, 2015. Prior to this date, Charlie plans to spend some time in the Foundation office getting to know the staff and familiarizing himself with the various aspects of the Foundation. Bob Bratton will continue to serve as the NorthEast Foundation Interim President. Bob has done an outstanding job providing continuity of management to our NorthEast Foundation staff, donors and stakeholders. Additionally, Bob will be instrumental in a smooth transition as Charlie takes the reigns of NorthEast Foundation. We know you will join us in welcoming his family and him to both Concord and our NorthEast Foundation family. If you have any questions, please call NorthEast Foundation at (704) 403-1369. Sincerely, Cheryl Kelling, Chairman Jon Yancey, Search Committee Chairman/Vice Chairman SPOTLIGHT get connected... Karen Cobb is from Concord, NC. She currently works as Corporate Public Relations Manager and Spokesperson for Lowe’s Home Improvement in Mooresville, NC. How did you become involved with NorthEast Foundation? I learned of the NorthEast Foundation and its mission when the Foundation was created in 1994. Jim Monroe, the Foundation’s first executive director, shared information about the Foundation’s mission and plans to support medical care in our community. My husband, the late Stowe Cobb, and I made a very personal decision then to contribute and have done so each year since. Why do you support NorthEast Foundation? It’s important to have high-quality medical care close to home. While the hospital receives operating funds from many sources, the NorthEast Foundation is able to provide additional financial support for projects that enhance the level of medical care, yet may not otherwise receive funding. What area of the hospital is most important to you, why? The intensive care unit (ICU) is an area of the hospital most important to me. My husband spent three weeks there following an automobile accident in 2010. The compassionate and highly skilled doctors and nurses in ICU treated serious patients while helping families like ours in many stages of crisis as our loved ones were treated. Why did you choose to become a 1937 Society member? While there are many worthwhile charities, I chose the NorthEast Foundation with confidence that the hospital is a lasting and growing part of our community and donations would be used to wisely. In what way do you hope your legacy will benefit CMC-NorthEast? Donating to the NorthEast Foundation is a way for a modest gift to benefit many people. What has been your favorite Foundation memory? The NorthEast Foundation staff has always found time to get to know donors on a personal level. Kevin Laws often visited my husband during many hospital stays. Kevin’s support, encouragement and cheerful outlook were a great support on some very dark days. What brought you to Concord/Cabarrus County? The late Dr. Fred Craven brought me to Concord/Cabarrus County. He delivered me at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital – now CMC-NorthEast (a little while ago). I have my mother’s original receipt for her week-long hospital stay after my birth. New mothers were usually hospitalized a week following a normal birth way back then. What are three things on your bucket list? Eat Cracker Jacks at Yankee Stadium, go fly fishing and return to Oxford University. I checked off the first two this summer.
