Student & Teacher Raffle
This year, the Student & Teacher Raffle will be held on Friday, March 20. Tickets will be available at the low cost of $.25 for students and $1 for teachers. Any questions, please contact Gillyn Croog ( [email protected]). Thanks and good luck! Dear Friends of the Glebe Community,
Welcome to the 2015 Glebe Spectacular PTA Auction & Social — Celebrating the Greatest School on
Earth! We thank you for supporting this important event. It is because of your enthusiastic participation,
year after year, that we can continue to make great things happen at Glebe Elementary School.
This year’s event continues a tradition of supporting the Glebe PTA’s guiding priorities: to provide an
exceptional educational experience for all students; to build community through great events that are
free to our families; to support Glebe teachers and staff; to build family involvement in education; to
provide a voice for Glebe students and families to Arlington County Public Schools; and to increase
exposure of our students to education in arts, healthy living, and technology.
Our community friends, families, teachers and business partners have once again been extremely
generous this year in donating to our event. We now look to you and your generosity at the auction, to
help continue the incredible legacy of support for all Glebe students, staff, and the extended Glebe
community.
This year’s event is also a celebration of you. Your continued support in and out of the classroom, at
events, of our teachers and staff, and financially, make Glebe Elementary School a very special place to
be. The passion you show for the school your students attend — and in some cases, no longer attend —
is incredible and deeply humbling.
I take a moment to pass along some sincere notes of thanks. For their tireless efforts in making this
year’s event a success, I’m sure you’ll join with me to extend our heartfelt thanks to Jennifer Lefton,
Donations Chair; Gillyn Croog, Holly Radus & Missy Heinzer, Social Chairs; Darien Jacobson & Christina
Wright, Sales Chairs; and Jessica Burke, Database Manager. They’ve worked extremely hard to create a
fabulous night of great fun and celebration. Please, pass along your thanks — they deserve it!
I also want to recognize our fabulous Glebe Staff — Jamie, Ingrid, all our teachers and our incredible
staff — for supporting this evening and all that comes with it. We greatly appreciate your flexibility and
willingness to allow us into your classrooms to create memorable projects, and your generosity in all the
teacher experiences you donate year after year. You are the best, and we thank you!
And finally, I would be remiss if I did not also highlight the many crucial volunteers who have had a hand
in this year’s Auction. Please take a look at our “Thanks” page at all the people who worked behind the
scenes — there are MANY people who helped in every aspect, and we couldn’t have been successful
without you. So for this, I say thank you.
On behalf of the entire Glebe PTA Executive Committee, thanks to all of you for making Glebe “The
Greatest School on Earth!”
With deepest gratitude,
Jen Thompson
Glebe PTA President

PLEASE NOTE: Checkout begins at 9:30 PM. If you need to leave e arlier, purchases w ill be charged to your credit card on file and you will be contacted the following week for item pick up. • When you arrive at the auction, you will be welcomed by a greeter. • If you have registered in advance by purchasing your drink band, you can pick up your drink band and bidder number, and make your way inside. At this time you will also be reminded if your credit card was saved in the system. If not, you’ll take a moment to register your credit card, purchase your drink band and receive your bidder number. • You should bring your catalog with you if you can, and use it to make notes and record your bidder number. • The items in the silent auction will be arranged by Section; Sections are shown by the bold heading in your catalog. • All packages in each section are grouped together, and each package will have a bid sheet showing the package number, the estimated retail value of the item, the starting bid, and subsequent increments. When you want to make a bid, you record your bidder number, n ame, and the amount on the bid sheet for the package. • The auctioneers will announce when sections are preparing to close. If there is anything in that section that you had your eye on, this is the time to make your best bid. Once the section closes for b idding, the bids will b e processed. • A bid is a binding contract. All sales are final. No refunds will be given. • Read the bid sheet and auction catalog carefully. The value, minimum opening bids and minimum bid raise will be clearly stated on the bid sheet. • A bid sheet must have a bid number and bid amount printed legibly or the b id can be disqualified. • Many items have restrictions and expiration d ates – please check carefully before bidding. • You’ll h ave a chance during the live auction to bid whatever amount you like on these special items, and the winning bids will be recorded and charged to the bidders. • Throughout the evening, you will also have the opportunity to support Fund-‐a-‐Need, and instructions will be both on the tables and announced b y the auctioneers. • At the end of the evening, if you have registered your credit card, you can make your way to the checkout table where you can pick up your receipt if you want one, as well as any items you have won. If you h ave not registered your card, the only difference is you will need to pay with cash, check, or credit card. • All items should be picked up at the end of the night. • After the event night, bid sheets, Game of Chance, and live auction bids will b e reconciled. If there is a variance from night of charges, you will be notified. Have a great night and happy b idding! Fund-A-Need
First: Fund-‐A-‐Need – For The Love Of Books This year’s Fund-‐A-‐Need, is all about BOOKS. Books, books, and more books! If you didn’t know, Glebe Elementary School is a community of voracious readers. Each week, Glebe students visit the library and are guided by Glebe Librarian Jennifer Chacon through the wonderful world of books. If you’ve had the opportunity to see Ms. Chacon in action, you’d completely understand why our students love reading; it’s a magical half-‐hour for them each and every week. Due to the love of reading, Glebe’s books are falling apart…28 boxes of b ooks that have literally fallen apart at the seams and are heading to the recycle b in. This year’s Fund-‐A-‐Need will raise money to buy books for the library. While APS and our PTA already provide some funding for this cause, it’s not nearly enough to keep pace with our readers. So come on, can you help? Come one, come all! Games of skill and chance set u p for a great cause: purchasing new books. Plunk down a few bucks to try and win the b est bottle of wine or beer! Will it be a ring toss, knock over the milk bottles, balloon dart throw, free throw, ball bounce, or coin toss? You'll have to join us at the Glebe Auction to find out more! Missed the game? Please consider making a direct donation to our Fund-‐A-‐
Need in the Glebe Experiences section of the Silent Auction, during the paddle raise of the Live Auction or at check out. Need a little more convincing? Here are some fun facts about Glebe’s Library:
! Year to date, we have circulated 23,833 b ooks. Last year Glebe had the highest circulation in the county. ! The average student circulation this year is 47.72 books each. ! On one day in March the Glebe Library circulated over 540 books. IN. ONE. DAY. ! In February, d espite the many snow delays, our library circulated over 6,200 books. ! Glebe’s top reader has read 122 b ooks so far this year. ! Our top 25 readers have averaged 79 books each, over the last 3 months. Special thanks to Dee Dee Helfenstein and Chris Johnson for b ringing back this fun game and to all of those who made contributions under the radar (you know who you are)! Second: Extended Day – Thank You Cards For A Cause Extended Day at Glebe provides care for many of our children b efore and after school, every day. The program receives funding from the PTA each year to help refresh toys and supplies and purchase equipment. Every year the number of kids enrolled in Extended Day grows, and with that growth comes additional need. We will be offering the opportunity purchase Thank You Cards, at the auction, which feature images of beautiful artwork created b y students in the Extended Day program. These are one of a kind, and all proceeds raised by the sales of these cards will go directly back to the Extended Day program. Page 1
