GNLU is also a nodal agency mandated to enhance the standards of legal education in 32 law colleges of Gujarat, catering to nearly 12,000 students every year. GNLU aims at advancing and disseminating learning and knowledge of law and legal processes and their respective roles in national development. GNLU offers interdisciplinary legal courses in many faculties, namely B.A. LL.B., B.Com. LL.B., B.Sc. LL.B., B.S.W. LL.B., B.B.A. LL.B., LL.M., Ph.D. in law and interdisciplinary fields, and foreign law courses and foreign language programmes. ABOUT B.S.W. LL.B. HONOURS Gujarat National Law University has the distinct honour of being the only University in India that offers an integrated honours Degree of Bachelor of Social Work and LL.B. since July 2011. BSW LL.B., programme has been designed focusing on the needs which shall be helpful in the practice of law. Graduates from this programme will be creative problem-solvers and will be enabled to fundamentally alter the way justice system works for the needy sections of the society. They will acquire knowledge, skills and perspectives of society to practice law that can deliver justice to all sections of the society. Students of this programme can work for the society using expertise in legal literacy, socio-legal research, policy analysis and advocacy, legislative reforms and management of NGOs/NPOs. They can also find employment in the universities, national and international research and legal institutions and civil society organizations, or they can also start their own social ventures. To further the cause of the enhancement of the BSW LLB course, the Faculty of Social Work at Gujarat National Law University presents a workshop on Social Entrepreneurship, followed by a competition, with the support of Legal Incubation Centre in collaboration with Serve Happiness Foundation, Bharuch, Gujarat. ABOUT LEGAL INCUBATION CENTRE The law school has a specialized incubation Centre to mentor law graduates aiming to be legal entrepreneurs. In a bid to instill business skills to start a legal venture, the law school has set up the Centre on the lines of top B-schools. It is the first legal incubation Centre of its kind in India. It provides Page 2 of 6 opportunity to GNLU graduates to become initial incubates as it aims to create jobs, train entrepreneurs, start innovative start-ups, legal firms and companies. The incubation centre is started with an aim to provide seed-funding, mentoring, and training to promote entrepreneurship in the knowledge-driven profession. PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES “The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” ― Albert Einstein Social Entrepreneurship is the process of pursuing innovative solutions to social problems. Just as business entrepreneurs create and transform whole industry, social entrepreneurs act as the change agents of society, seizing opportunities, while others miss in order to improve systems, invent and disseminate new approaches and advance sustainable solutions that create social value. The workshop provides an environment comprising of peers and mentors to help you work through your social enterprise idea and provides a connection with community for your own journey. In the duration of the event, the students will, at the foremost, be nurtured about the concept of Entrepreneurship and Social Entrepreneurship and thereafter, opportunities in various sectors of social enterprises will be addressed. Subsequently, the participants will select one sector, ideate a business plan, form teams, and compete with other teams in the final round. WHO SHOULD APPLY The workshop is open for students, researchers, academicians and professionals working in NGOs and Corporate sector. The participants must be Those who are interested in understanding the concept of Social Entrepreneurship. Those who have ideas, but don’t know where to start or need support in developing their own ideas. Those who are interested in learning and preparing Business Model Canvas (BMC) for converting their ideas into social/business enterprises. Page 3 of 6 PRIZE DISTRIBUTION After first day workshop and training, the various participants shall form their respective team and going to compete with each other on the second day. Each respective team will get feedback on their ideas from mentors, and then present their ideas which shall be judged by the panelist. The top two winning teams shall be felicitated with the trophy and winning prizes. Winning team: INR 6000 with winning trophy Runner-up: INR 4000 with runners up trophy. INTAKE AND DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION Intake is around 60 participants on first come first serve basis and the application process would be closed on receiving the first 60 eligible candidates. Therefore, interested students may kindly apply well in time. Deadline for registration is 25th March, 2015. Page 5 of 6 RESOURCE PERSONS 1. Nitin Tailor (CEO & Founder, Serve Happiness Foundation) Nitin is the founder of Serve Happiness Foundation, Bharuch, Gujarat (www.servehappiness.org). He has a proven record in academia, technology startups and social sector in Europe and India. He is also certified for Technology Entrepreneurship by Stanford University's Venture Lab. Nitin is being awarded Entrepreneur of the year award and gold medal at IIIT Bangalore in 2014. He is very much involved in inspiring youth and nation building activities. He was facilitator and part of the team in renowned inspirational journeys Jagriti Yatra and Yuva Prerna Yatra for youth. Sharad Parekh (Founder & Chief Energy Officer, Straut Renewables Pvt. Ltd.) Sharad Parekh is a mechanical engineer graduate. He is founder of multimillion enterprises Straut Renewables Pvt. Ltd. He shares how his ideas turned into a business venture, making him the successful entrepreneur he is today. He also won prestigious MIT Climate Co Lab Industry Contest held by MIT, USA in 2014. 3. Maharshi Dave (Founder, Farmbridge- An agro startup) Maharshi Pandeet Dave Deendayal is a highly Petroleum energetic University. and He motivated graduate left his corporate from job to pursue his dream to create positive impact in society. He provides capacity building & training for farmers and SHGs. He is passionate about agriculture and organic farming. He is a facilitator & motivator for effective CSR activity through Innovation. 4. Anuj Sikchi (Founder, Sikchi & Thakkar - A CA firm) Anuj Sikchi is a law entrepreneur based in Ahmedabad. After completing his education in commerce and CA, he has worked in some of the top CA firms. After having good experience, he has started his own CA firm with his friend Hardik known as Sikchi and Thakkar. They have helped many young entrepreneurs registering their startups.
