Principal's Message
Next week is Education Week (as is every
week at GPS) and it will be business as
usual throughout the school. Staff
members take great care in supporting our
students and celebrating their successes
while encouraging all students to be kind,
caring, compassionate individuals who
strive to be the best learners they can be
each and every day.
EQAO is coming up - it is very important for children in Grades 3 and 6
to make every effort to attend school
from May 25 - June 4. Thank you for
your ongoing support.

proceeds will go to year end field

clothes in your child’s
backpack –including

Pizza Nights at New Orleans
Be sure to mark May 4,5,6 on your
calendar for Pizza Night at New
Orleans. From 4:00 until close, all 67
locations will donate 50% of every
purchase to the school of your choice!
When ordering (pickup or delivery)
simply hand in a Donation Form
containing the name of your
school. At the conclusion of the
campaign they will send half the
money back to the school.
Rally Cap Baseball Program
The Rally Cap Program is designed for players born in 2010 or later. It is an initiative to enhance players and coaches first experience with the game. The program helps teams teach the 6 fundamentals of
baseball in a fun and safe environment. It helps players learn fundamental motor skills, teaches basic
baseball skills and helps them learn the basic rules. It is an 8-10 week program that will start in late

musical intruments , costumes, etc for an Active
Transportation Parade. Decorate your mode of active
transportation or come as you are for a parade around
the Square before heading up West St. The parade will
end at Lions Harbour Park for a cupcake celebration of
Jane Jacobs birthday.

Dear Goderich and Area Families
Goderich is entering its 20th year of
participation in the Communities in Bloom
program. It is, in part, through the volunteers who plant and maintain many of our
community’s beautiful gardens that we continue to receive commendations for being the
Prettiest Town in Canada!
We have a number of gardens this
year looking for volunteers to maintain them.
In an effort to engage our young people, we
decided to invite families to adopt a garden.
These plots range in size from small to quite
large (suitable for 2 families) and are in various locations throughout the town. A family’s
involvement could range from planting,
weeding and watering throughout the summer months to just weeding weekly. One of
a family’s concerns might be summer vacations but the Parks Department is more than
willing to take over garden care when volunteers are away. This is an excellent opportunity to teach children how to care for
plants but to also instil the importance of
volunteerism!

Math Minute
Because our goal is to produce mathematically powerful students who can
reason, solve, and explain both procedural and application problems,
students are encouraged to articulate
the mathematical processes they followed - first for themselves, and then
for others. Q. How is the slope of a
line used in mathematics? What information does the slope of a line provide?
Dress Code
Now that warmer weather is getting closer
(we hope!) we would remind parents of the
dress code devised by the parents and
community of Goderich Public School,
which applies to all students.
Please review this dress code with your
children. General guidelines indicate that
students should not wear: tops with spaghetti straps, tops that leave the midriff
bare or exposed, t-shirts with offensive
messages, no underwear showing, and
shorts should be an appropriate length.
