Happy Mother’s Day for all our TKD Mums tomorrow.
Once again a large number of players
are headed to the Coast for the 6th
Gold Coast Open. It’s great to see so
many interstate teams considering
the large number of comps around.
Notably the World Championships in
Russia.
Closing date Sunday midnight.
10th May.
The official closing date ended on Wednesday, but we are still
working on the draw. NO entries will be accepted after Sunday.
We hope to have a provisional draw posted by Monday night.
Friday Weigh in
The first weigh in will take place on Friday 15th May in the foyer
of the main entrance (closest to the main road). Weigh in will be
from 5 – 7 pm. Players are reminded to bring their signed
competition form to the weigh in.
Weigh in is open to all players – Juniors & Seniors.

Currently we have only 8 Uncontested players. To reduce the number of uncontested
divisions we have create some match plays. However sometime the safety parameters
are just too wide to matchup.

number of foot protectors will be available for purchase for $66.00. They will be available at
the weigh-in on Friday night and at the front entry on the day.
Please email us if you want a pair put aside. The system we work with the black or grey
socks.

Lanyard
All players and coaches will receive a red lanyard with their id card. Id cards will be
given out at weigh in/front door/ or with your team manager.
Officials
Referees & Poomse Judges from TA and STA are welcome to officiate at the Gold
Coast Open. Official attire will be White Shirts, dark pants and blue tie.
Officials will be paid $60per day. They will also receive a Shirt and
Commemorative Medal.
There will also be a dinner on Saturday night at the local Steak house restaurant.

 Players can compete in a maximum of 2 divisions.
 Limitations of Novice black belt divisions.
o Cannot enter both Novice and Normal.
o Cannot have been a national level black belt medallist
o Cannot have been a state level black belt champion
 Masters (33+ yrs) and Open’s will be separated.
 Separate blue and red belt cadet (12-14 Yrs) divisions for head kicks and
non head kicks
 Video review and protest cards will only be used in black belt divisions
(Open, Junior & Cadet), excluding Novice divisions.

Club Profile
Focus TKD Club Honiara Solomon Islands
There are two WTF clubs in Honiara the capital of
the Solomon Islands.
Focus TKD Club has more than 50 members and
Junior Maetia is the Head Instructor and Manager.
The club trains three days a week and they often
have special training sessions for long runs. Club
members are totally committed to taekwondo and
train extremely hard in the hot, humid climate. Club sparring and inter-club sparring is
extremely competitive and fierce.
This will be the first time club members have competed in Australia however all three
members have competed in local tournaments in Honiara and Auki. Mr Maetia
represented the Solomon Islands at the last South Pacific Games in New Caledonia.
-----------------------------------------REVOLUTION TAEKWONDO LIFESTYLE CENTRES
is a Martial Art Club in Upper Coomera. Founded by Master
Glenn Parmley, the club has been passed onto Master Leon
Leppert after Glenn moved to Bali. Leon recently graded for
6th Dan bo after starting with GM Ke-Hyung No in the 70’s.
Leon has also trained in Korea, living at the Jidokwan dojang
for 6 months.

Makayla Phillips is currently working in Brisbane and before
heading back to the USA, has decided to enter the GC Open.
Makayla’s father John is the head instructor has been training
for 26 years. Master Phillips (5 Dan) began his formal martial
arts training in 1988, under the instruction of Master Leonard
Ortez. In 2005 Master Phillip formed Phillips Tae Kwon Do
Center, PTC. Makayla got promoted to my black belt at the
age of 8. She has been competing nationally since 2000 and internationally since 2007.
