Once again a large number of players are headed to the Coast for the 6th Gold Coast Open. It’s great to see so many interstate teams considering the large number of comps around. Notably the World Championships in Russia. Closing date Sunday midnight. 10th May. The official closing date ended on Wednesday, but we are still working on the draw. NO entries will be accepted after Sunday. We hope to have a provisional draw posted by Monday night. Friday Weigh in The first weigh in will take place on Friday 15th May in the foyer of the main entrance (closest to the main road). Weigh in will be from 5 – 7 pm. Players are reminded to bring their signed competition form to the weigh in. Weigh in is open to all players – Juniors & Seniors. Official attire will be White Shirts, dark pants and blue tie. Officials will be paid $60per day. They will also receive a Shirt and Commemorative Medal. Focus TKD Club has more than 50 members and Junior Maetia is the Head Instructor and Manager. The club trains three days a week and they often have special training sessions for long runs. Club members are totally committed to taekwondo and train extremely hard in the hot, humid climate. Club sparring and inter-club sparring is extremely competitive and fierce. This will be the first time club members have competed in Australia however all three members have competed in local tournaments in Honiara and Auki. Mr Maetia represented the Solomon Islands at the last South Pacific Games in New Caledonia. -----------------------------------------REVOLUTION TAEKWONDO LIFESTYLE CENTRES is a Martial Art Club in Upper Coomera. Founded by Master Glenn Parmley, the club has been passed onto Master Leon Leppert after Glenn moved to Bali. Leon recently graded for 6th Dan bo after starting with GM Ke-Hyung No in the 70’s. Leon has also trained in Korea, living at the Jidokwan dojang for 6 months. -----------------------------------------Phillips Tae Kwon Do Center – Washington USA Makayla Phillips is currently working in Brisbane and before heading back to the USA, has decided to enter the GC Open. Makayla’s father John is the head instructor has been training for 26 years. Master Phillips (5 Dan) began his formal martial arts training in 1988, under the instruction of Master Leonard Ortez. In 2005 Master Phillip formed Phillips Tae Kwon Do Center, PTC. Makayla got promoted to my black belt at the age of 8.
