Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards, 2014-2015

The Graduate School is now accepting nominations for:
Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards, 2014-2015
Exemplary commitment to the craft of teaching is the foundation for this award to a graduate student who
exhibits outstanding mastery of both teaching concepts and of his/her content area. The Graduate School
is delighted to call for nominations for the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award. Please
note: one award will be given to the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Master’s level and
one award will be given to the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Doctoral level.
To encourage the nomination of only the best graduate teaching assistants, the following
nomination criteria have been established:
1. The nominee must have demonstrated superior teaching skills while serving as an instructor of
the classroom or laboratory.
2. The nominee should have outstanding student evaluations.
3. The nominee should have original teaching materials that support his or her nomination.
4. The nominee must have had significant teaching responsibilities for at least two semesters. The
current semester may be counted.
5. The nomination form must be endorsed by the Dean of the college or the Dean’s designee.
6. Nominees must be enrolled full-time.

Time Line and Award: Deadline extended to March 27, 2015. The winners will be announced
and honored at a reception for all applicants to be held April 24th, 2015. In addition, the winners
each will receive a $500 award and a commemorative plaque as recognition from the Graduate
School.

Application Packets must include the following:
 A completed nomination form endorsed by the Dean of the college or designee
 One letter of nomination – preferably from the faculty supervisor or someone
who has worked closely with the nominee in their teaching capacity; this letter of
nomination should address the nominee’s strengths and suitability for the award
 A sample of the most recent teaching evaluations; use only those with
meaningful comments; limit 10 pages
 A statement of the nominee’s teaching philosophy
 A sample of teaching materials prepared by the nominee; limit 10 pages
 A list of training events/workshops relevant to teaching attended by the nominee
Nomination forms are available on the Graduate School’s website. It is the nominee’s responsibility
to collect all the items listed above. This includes the completed and signed nomination form as well as
the letter of nomination. All the items listed above must be included in the complete application package.
Please submit 1 electronic copy of the complete application package no later than 5PM on March 27th,
2015, to Dr. Judith Krauss ([email protected]) of the Center for Graduate Life. The complete application
package must be submitted as one PDF file containing all necessary documents.
