Loreto College Unit 7: Design Folio: Built Environment Design - Interior Design Graphics Task - Year 12 Background to the Assessment Graphical Representations: Students have successfully completed a Built Environment Design (Interior) unit in Year 11. During that project they were introduced to AutoDesk Revit. They have never used the software prior to this because Graphics was only introduced last year and it is not a Junior subject at present. Conditions Pictorial Sketches Exploded Isometric Dimensioned Orthographic Use of CADD Limited teacher input 8 weeks class time and independent student time 400-to-800-word extended response developed as a result of exploring the design problem, including a design brief that demonstrates understanding of the design problem and criteria, design area, relevant design factors and graphical representation for the particular audience (Task 1) annotated preliminary sketches and drawings demonstrating development of design ideas and graphical representations that present the solution to the design problem (Task 2) the presentation of a graphical product for the particular audience (set of final drawings and/or an animation or simulation) (Task 3) design appraisal maximum 400 words (Task 4) Dimensions Assessed: Knowledge and understanding Analysis and application Synthesis and evaluation Design Problem You have been approached by a representative of business that would like you to design their reception area. The reception area will be staffed by employees of the business. The reception area will be the first point of contact for members of the general public as well as representatives of other companies who are there for business purposes. The reception area will need seating as well as some form of reception counter. Audience The Client will be the business representative. The end Users will be members of the general public as well as representatives of associated businesses. Resources Design Area Built Environment Design—Interior Design Design Factors User-centred design Elements and principles of design Technologies Legal responsibilities Design strategies Project management Materials Drawing and sketching equipment (including Copic Markers) Internet CADD software and Wacom Tablets A3 Scanner / Colour Printer Australian Standards information Task 1 – Exploring the Design Problem describe the needs and design opportunities in terms of your chosen Client and the suggested End User’s of the Product. evaluate how well existing designs meet the identified needs, and identify possible improvements. explain the design problem. investigate design factors by accessing information from primary sources (e.g. interviews with users, surveys) and secondary sources (e.g. books, existing graphical products, other designers) to understand the nature of the design problem. analyse the graphical conventions for Built Environment Design and the design problem analyse graphical representations that could be used for Interior Design develop a suitable design brief from the design problem (400-800 Words) establish Design Criteria based on the design factors, that can be used later on to evaluate the quality of your design ideas, design developments and final graphical products. Students submit: design brief that demonstrates understanding of the design problem and criteria, design area, relevant design factors and graphical representation for the particular audience Task 2 – Developing Ideas generate design ideas using annotated sketches and drawings (Single Point Perspective & 2D Plan) evaluate ideas in relation to the design criteria select and develop a design solution to satisfy design criteria and justify decisions evaluate the proposed solution. Students submit: annotated preliminary sketches and drawings demonstrating development of design ideas and graphical representations that present the solution to the design problem. Task 3 – Producing Graphical Products produce sketches and CADD drawings of final solution (Interior Design) manage the production of the graphical representations evaluate the proposed graphical representations against the design criteria make and justify decisions regarding future modifications to the graphical representations Students submit: the presentation of a graphical product for the specific audience (set of final drawings and/or an animation or simulation). Task 4 – Design Appraisal evaluate how well the final solution and graphical products meet the Design Criteria explain the success of your Final Design against the criteria established in the Design Brief make and justify recommendations for improvements to the design process and graphical products. include annotations on final drawings Max of 400 words Students submit: design appraisal
