Knights of Columbus, Council 11236 Catholic Home Missions Many dioceses right here in the United States do not have enough priests and trained lay ministers to serve their parishes. These dioceses are known as home missions. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will take place this weekend in the second collection, and supports these dioceses by funding essential ministries, including seminary education and lay ministry training. Please be generous in this appeal and share your resources to strengthen the Church at home. A portion of the collection will also support the effort by the Church for Black and Native American Indians. Knights of Columbus Scholarship All Catholic students who are members of Good Shepherd Parish and attend public, private or parochial schools who are currently in the eighth grade, and who will be attending a catholic high school, are invited to participate in the 2015 Laguna Council High School Scholarship Contest. Students are encouraged to write a 500 to 750 word essay on the following theme: Importance of Religious Freedom. The local contest will be hosted by Laguna Council #11236 in Elk Grove. We supplement their Catholic foundation with a meaningful religious education program through the use of age-appropriate lessons, stories, songs, and crafts while their parents attend Mass. * Kinderchurch is offered during the 9 am Mass from September through May. * We are looking for more adult catechists to help provide this wonderful religious experience for the children of our parish - NO teaching experience is needed! Our hopes are that by next week we will be accepting clothing and miscellaneous items to the shed in the SVDP parking lot. The cart in the Narthex is ONLY for food items. Please do not put anything other than food in the cart. We are asking that nothing be left on the floor around the cart. If your food donation doesn’t fit in the cart OR you have non-food items to donate, please drop them off on Monday morning to get a donation letter, or place the donation in the shed once it’s ready. This week we were able to hand out bread, cabbage, celery, potatoes, oranges, condiments, and snacks. We were able to assist 63 families, serving 198 people and gave out 190 boxes/bags of food.
