Director of Religious Education - DRE
St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish in St. John, IN seeks a candidate for
the position of Director of Religious Education. The director will work in
concert with the pastor, pastoral associate of educational ministries,
parochial school, associate director of religious education, and the dynamic
parish community to grow a Religious Education program that forms our
children as disciples and evangelists of Christ.
Vision for Religious Education:
 An education component which provides basic Catholic teachings
study questions and a faithful Catholic curriculum
 A formation component which provides interactive explanations and
personal faith development
 A practice component which provides an application of Catholic
principles through the corporal and spiritual works of mercy
 Collaboration with the director of evangelization to integrate an
evangelization component into religious education
Primary Responsibilities:
 Directing the religious education program for the public school (260
students) and parochial school (380 students)
 Budgeting of programs
 Facilitation of religious education seminars and services for first
reconciliation, first communion, and confirmation
 Facilitation of the basic Catholic teachings study questions catechism

 Mentoring the religious education catechists
 Oversight of RCIA for children
 Oversight of Vacation Bible School
 Oversight of the youth ministry program
 Related duties as assigned by the pastor
Requirements:
 A practicing Catholic with a stable prayer life, established
communication skills, self-motivation, organization, and the ability to
mentor others in the faith

 A Bachelors or Masters in catechetical or pastoral theology from a
faithful college or university
 Professional experience in parish life
 A knowledge of initiatory catechesis, the wider catechetical documents
(including the General Directory for Catechesis, the National Directory
for Catechesis, RCIA, and Catechesis in Our Time), and IEP’s for
special education
 Public speaking ability
