JOIN US FROM JUNE 22 - AUGUST 21
Our visual art enrichment program develops creative expression and artistic skills through hands-on activities. Teen
and adult classes are also open to ages 13+.
For a full-day program, a morning class may be combined
with an afternoon class. Supervised “bridge” care is available for these students, between 12-1PM, for an additional
$20 per week. These students should bring a lunch.
FINANCIAL AID IS AVAILABLE. Forms available online and
at the GAC office, must be returned by June 12.
CANCELLATION POLICY: A full refund may be received
up to June 2, 2015. A full refund less a $25 processing fee
may be received for refunds requested up to 2 weeks before class starting date. Tuition credit less a $25 processing
fee may be received for cancellations requested less than
2 weeks before the class starting date. After that time,
no consideration will be given without a written medical
excuse. Students missing a regularly scheduled class will
not receive a refund or makeup class.

SUMMER ART EXPLORERS [Ages 3-1/2+]
With summer as our theme, we’ll explore a variety of
art materials and projects. Clay animals, wooden towers,
painted murals, felt puppets and more. Be ready for a
messy, fun time! Time for outside play too.
SUMMERTIME FUN [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
Use crayons and markers to draw, try our hand at painting,
create clay birds and make a surprise Fourth of July project.
A nice way to start the summer; age appropriate activities.
PRINCESSES & DRAGONS [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
Explore the magical world of princesses and dragons in this
fantasy art class. A short story, a themed art project and
even a dragon or two will be featured each day.

ORGANIC ART: NATURE’S INFLUENCE [Ages 7+]
Learn to draw inspiration from the natural world. Focus on
the four elements and flora and fauna using various types of
paint, mixed media materials, found objects and techniques.
CLAY EACH DAY [Ages 7+]
Explore the possibilities of clay! Build a house, imaginary
creatures, decorative mugs, bowls, tiles and more! Learn
clay techniques and decorative applications. Kiln fired and
air-dry clay used for projects.
PORTRAIT DRAWING [Ages 7+]
Working with charcoal, pastel, color pencil and paint, we
will draw and paint from observation and use our imaginations to develop background detail. Fee payable with

CREATE A CLAY CIRCUS WITH ACROBATS:
SESSION A [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
Make a circus out of natural clay and paint: horses with
plumes, dancing dogs, three rings and the performers. An
artist’s studio environment full of ideas that we make real!
RAVISHING ROYALTY [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
We’ll make magical crystal balls, fairy or mermaid puppets,
mystical mirrors, and other refinement! We will adorn our
objects with jewels, and sparkly bits, to cherish.
CLAY WATER CREATURES [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
Have fun with storytelling and creating objects with selfhardening clay and decorations. We will make water animals
such as frogs, fish, ducks, penguins, alligators and more.

PUPPETMANIA [Ages 5-9]
Create a variety of unique puppets made from socks, felt,
paper bags, spoons, boxes and more. We’ll create a stage
and present a puppet show the last day of class.
AMERICAN GIRL: SESSION A [Ages 5-9]
Learn about the lives of your favorite American Girl characters through sewing, weaving, doll making and cooking
projects. Time for stories, games, tea party. Fee payable
with tuition $5.00.
HANDS ON HAND BUILDING [Ages 5-9]
Learn basic clay hand-building techniques: roll coils, roll and
throw slabs, pinching, textures, decorating. Expect to make
at least 5 pieces. Students should wear clothes to get dirty.

EGYPTIAN ENCHANTMENTS [Ages 5-9]
Create your own archaeological creations, such as canopic
jars, sarcophagi, or mummies! Learn the history of scarab
beetles, and make our own out of clays of every color! Our
projects will be keepsakes you’ll cherish forever!
IMAGINE CLAY ARCHITECTURE [Ages 5-9]
Make an amusement park, a boat marina, gerbil cottages,
gnome castles, and more out of clay. An artist’s studio
environment full of ideas that we make real!
ZOMBIES, CATS & DOGS [Ages 5-9]
There are creatures in The Beyond that we’ve never seen.
First comes the idea, then we draw a comic strip and we
make action figures in clay and paint them. An artist’s studio

PAPER, PAINT & PASTELS [Ages 8+]
Individual and class instruction in drawing and painting.
Some projects will focus on a single material while others
will combine two or all three. Themes will depend on
student interest. 2D and 3D lessons will be taught.
WHIRLING WINGS & MOVING
THINGS [Ages 8+]
Fun sculptures for the garden. Students will learn to use
recycled objects to create beautiful and exciting moving
garden art. Skills learned will be tin punching, balancing/
moving connections and mosaics.

OCEANS OF FUN [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
The ocean will be the inspiration for our amazing projects. Drawings, paintings, sculptures, mobiles and more.
Students will experience a wide variety of media including
paint, colored pencil, clay, paper mache and fiber.
EXPLORATORY ART [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
In a studio arts format, try a little bit of everything: clay,
paint, pastels, collage, fiber arts and more! Projects follow
a seasonal theme.

BUGS & KOOKY KRITTERS [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
If you like critters and creepy-crawly creatures, this class is

out of clay, a playful puppet , and your own field guide.

MYSTICAL CREATURES [Ages 5-9]
Hand building with self-hardening clay, students will create and decorate dragons, gargoyles, mermaids, unicorns,

STILL LIFE DRAWING WITH
WATERCOLOR [Ages 7+]
Learn to draw from life, using pencil, watercolor and water
pencil to enhance object detail. A variety of techniques will

RETRO CRAFTS [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
Groovy arts and crafts from the 60’s and 70’s. Flashback and
revisit awesome crafts from the height of the crafts movement. Tye dye, Book Making, Batik, Clay, Jewelry arts and
more - lots of fun looking back while making new art works.

UNDER THE SEA [Ages 5-9]
Learn about coral reefs, tidal pools, fish, whales, dolphins,
and conservation, then create clay fish, design fabric fish

ASIAN ARTS & TEA PARTY [Ages 5-9]
Learn secrets of ancient eastern Asia! We will make Geisha
or Samurai puppets, elaborate Uchiwa fans, china patterns,
and tiny clay sushi rolls Learn the history of the Beckoning
Cat, and make our own out of paper mache, complete with
painted and jeweled details. Tea party and snacks that we
eat with chopsticks!

THE POTTER’S WHEEL: WEEK 4 & 5 [Ages 8+]
A 5-session class (3 days potter’s wheel, 2 days glazing).
Make pots on the wheel through a combination of teacher

Learn the basics of machine and hand sewing while making patchwork pillows, leaf printed tote bags, cute stuffed
animals and embroidered purses. No sewing experience

TEENS
DRAWING AS A BRAIN SKILL [Ages 13+]
This is a class that mimics art jobs. Design an iPod case,
a noodle maker, a parade float, architecture for village
planning, a Mardi Gras papier-mache head to wear for a
festival. Create a character and their activities and illustrate
a visual narrative about them like a short graphic novel.
Skills are honed by drawing exercises, outdoor painting to
capture the colors and temperatures, and by sharing ideas
and acting on them.

TEEN BLACKSMITHING [Ages 13+]
This class will teach students basic forging techniques.
Students will learn how to build and maintain a coal fire,
and use the new skills to make several small projects such
as hooks, fire pokers, and hand forged jewelry. Students
will need safety glasses, leatherwork gloves, and should
wear jeans and non-flammable cotton shirt and boots or
leather shoes.

THE ART OF DR. SEUSS [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
Visit the world of Dr. Seuss. Use finger paints, watercolors, decorative papers, felt and mixed media to create
art inspired by these beloved characters and their stories.
A IS FOR ARTIST [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
Do you like art? Come and learn some of the things that
artists do. Make paintings, draw, sculpt with clay, blend colors, make paper shapes and glue them onto a background
to create wonderful pictures. Each day students will be
introduced to a new artist, try different techniques and
create multiple pieces.
KIDS DO THE MASTERS [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
Each day we will be inspired by a master artist in this
mixed-media class. Children will be exposed to a variety
of art materials, tempera, pastel, watercolor, clay, fiber,

We will make a wampum bracelet on a loom, then a medicine pouch with appliqué beadwork. Next we will make

AMERICAN GIRL: SESSION C [Ages 5-9]
Calling all American Girl Fans! Join your friends for a Week
of American Girl theme crafts and cooking. Learn about the
lives of your favorite AG character through sewing, weaving, doll making and cooking projects. We’ll have time for
AG stories, traditional games and a festive tea party. Fee

CREATING WITH CLAY [Ages 8+]
In this class we will be learning and using all of the basic hand
building skills while creating a variety of finished pieces.
Some of our projects will be making people and animals,
wall pieces and gargoyle flowerpots. If you have taken a
clay class before, you will have the opportunity to grow
your skills while enjoying new projects. Color and surface
design will utilize both engobes and underglazes. Students
will have time to create work using their own ideas.

LONG ISLAND SOUND ADVENTURES [Ages 7+]
Experiment with a variety of materials to create projects
related to Long Island sound. Working with watercolor,
pastel, collage and other media, we will create a variety of
pieces that connect the beautiful landscape and creatures
of our Shoreline.

WHIMSICAL UNDERWATER
WEIRDNESS [Ages 3-1/2 - 6]
Create a paper mache sculpture of a creature of your
choice- be it a mermaid, sea serpent, or realistic aquatic animal! We’ll make a large poster with paint and collage of our
very own made-up fish bowl, and decorate it with jeweled
accents. We’ll make our own versions of sunken treasure,
such as mermaid crystal balls and Atlantean-inspired curios.
We’ll make stickers, magnets, clay creations, and more in
this all-things aquatic fun class!

Use traditional and more advanced hand building techniques to create both usable vessels and sculptural items.
We will draw inspiration from natural and abstract forms.

WATERCOLORS GALORE [Ages 5-9]
Paint, splash, splatter, drip and swirl your way through the
world of watercolors. We will create colorful landscapes
with metallic highlights, make marbleized paper using shaving cream, finger paint on fabric and more. Projects will
involve hands-on instruction in various painting techniques
using liquid watercolors and mixed media.
