Looking out the window right now does not suggest that is the case. Once we get by St. Patty’s Day, we should be on the home stretch. Get your bikes ready and let’s go riding!! Roger was trying to set a record for himself by riding every month of the year. He did make it in December but January and February it was impossible. We’ll see what March brings. As many of you may know, I just returned from a 10 day trip to Israel – God’s Holy promise land. It was totally awesome and no, I did not feel like I was in danger at any time. The sites were unbelievable. I floated in the Dead Sea, took a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, got rebaptized in the Jordon River, visited Bethlehem, Jesus’ birth place, road a camel, and spent three days in Jerusalem walking on the paths that Jesus walked. This was truly a spiritual experience. However, we didn’t get away from the snow. It actually snowed about 4 inches in Jerusalem. It totally paralyzed the city. They don’t have snow shovels and absolutely no snowplows. Everyone except us thought it was grand. I would recommend going to anyone. Just a reminder that the Western NY Training Day is scheduled for April 4th in Batavia. Please let me know if you plan to attend. I know this is Easter weekend and I’m not sure what our plans are as it is Roger’s and, yes, Brenda’s birthday weekend. Can you believe they are the same age! Sorry Roger, but Brenda looks much younger then you. Are you sure you are the same age – just kidding. Another event is Americade being held in Lake George from June 2-6. There are openings to help with booths if anyone is interested. Now that 2015 is well underway, I would like to get our Chapter involved in some ventures. The Dash for Cash program is one that we could easily do. Its purpose is to encourage Chapters to visit each other, to participate in GWRRA programs, and to attend conventions and other functions within the Region. As we are sponsoring the Ride-in, we will get points for that, we now have a Chapter Couple of the Year, which we get points for, and we have several members who attend Wing-Ding and other regional functions. On that note, I would like to ask if anyone would step up to the plate and be our Dash for Cash point person. I know there are a few out there that would be really good. Jump on board, I promise it won’t be that much work. At our monthly meeting, it was decided that we would get new long sleeve shirts so that we could all wear them at the Ride-In. We are still deciding on a color, we have choices, but I would like to get them order. Please email me your shirt size. The cost will be approximately $35 a shirt. A reminder that Tech Day is planned for May 2 at 10 a.m. at Les and Cindy’s garage. Pizza and beverage will be provided. If you would like to bring a dessert to pass, it would be wonderful. In order to promote motorcycle awareness month, it was suggested that we set up a table at Hectors in Falconer for Saturday, May 23. If you would be willing to help with this, please let me know. It is Memorial Day weekend which may bring business in. I know we will all be excited over the previous weekend so let’s keep it going. Cliff will be arranging a Road Captain’s class sometime in April. It would benefit all of us but particularly the people who will be the lead/tail for our Ride-In. He is suggesting April 25. Please let him know if you would like to participate. I have contacted the Post Journal to see if we can get some publicity for our Chapter and, hopefully, have a reporter at the Ride-In. I have not heard back from them as of this writing. Registrations are starting to come in for the Ride-In. It is early yet but we are hoping for a good turn out. Please spread the word. It is my understanding that you do not have to be a member to attend. Also, please remember that we will be doing a Lottery umbrella and are asking members to donate 5 or so lottery tickets. Please bring them to our next meeting or get them to Betty. Finally, I am proud to announce our Chapter Couple of the Year Bill and Yvonne Spoon. Shawn and Dawn Hayes, Assistant District Directors, were at the recent meeting to present them with this award. Unfortunately, Yvonne was in Florida so Bill accepted for both of them. I believe it was a complete surprise. Bill was very gracious and stated that one person does not make a Chapter successful. It takes all members to be active and supportive. I know we have a great Chapter and I know we have even more potential to be the best Chapter in New York state. We may be small in numbers, but we can still be the best there is to be. I’m looking forward to our “snowbirds” returning to complete our Chapter. That’s it for now. Think SPRING!! Arlene Shawn & Dawn Hayes (Assistant District Directors) Bill & Yvonne (absent) Spoon (Couple of the Year) Arlene & Roger Connelly (Chapter U Directors) The View From the Road Roger Connelly - Ride Co-Ordinator Roger is planning rides for the Ride-In, which are: Lakes of Chautauqua County -- Ready for a swim? , Give me a Curve, Overlooks of Chautauqua County - Oh say can you see, and an Amish Tour – A ride back in time. They all sound wonderful and I’m sure everyone will enjoy them. As time gets closer, he will be arranging to have the Road Captains and tails get together, go over the directions, and ride the routes. He has received a few suggestions for rides for this summer – thank you Betty!! He can always use more ideas. Spring is right around the corner and it will be time to ride. Restaurant suggestions for the weekly dinner rides are welcome. As Roger is out of town at a workshop, I am pitch hitting for him on this article; therefore, it is brief. Go over your bikes, charge up the batteries, and let’s get on the road. Submitted for Roger By Chapter Director Betty Mac would like baskets & Scratch-off tickets for the ride-in. Time is short please bring by next meeting March Birthdays Marsha Gaworecki 3/22, Maleia Fetters 3/22, Cliff Schaal 3/26 This can end anytime! So how are you making out this winter? As for me, I have had enough winter, cold and snow. It has gotten so bad that I have been spotted in the barn sitting on my wing making vroom sounds pretending to be heading down the highway. I guess this sounds childish and it is but it makes me feel better. I guess it is time to put away my fantasies and get back to reality. OK, what needs to be done before my first ride? Tires, yes the Wing needs new shoes for this summer. Sure the tires on the bike are still legal with 25% of the tread still on them, but why push it. You are going to have to replace them soon anyway. Wheel bearings? Why not, you have the wheels off anyway. Oil change? Start off the riding season with fresh oil and a filter. And why not give your bike a wash and wax. Take the time to inspect your bike in detail. These are just a few things that I plan on doing before the snow melts so that my bike is ready to ride. So how do I handle that first ride? First I take it easy to get my feel for the bike back. No riders, all by myself. I check out my gear and make sure it still ok. I don’t want to find out the hard way. I hope that all of you will do the same and if you don’t, at least check the air pressure in your tires. If all goes well we might be riding in six weeks.
