WGC also aims to reward our National Stream senior gymnasts who achieve high levels of o success by offering opportunities for international and interstate competitions. Australian Levels Program National Stream: Unlimited and Limited Levels WGC has had many successes in National Stream throughout its history and continues to strive for success in all State & National events. In 2012, Waverley gymnast Rachel Figgis was crowned the Australian Champion at National Level 10. Taylah Laval was crowned Australian Vault Champion at National Level 8 8. In Victorian Championships 2013 we had Nikita Bulach take the National level 4 Title with team mate Emily Chinnock in second place. place Taylah Laval then took 2013 Victorian Championship title at level 9. More recently we have had success at the Victorian Championships in 2014 with Emily Chinnock taking the All around Title at National Level 6. Our Level 7 team holds the 2014 Championship title with Bailee Hunsdale becoming the Victorian beam Champion and Arden Juricskay placing second all around.. At Level 9 Mikayla George was Vault Champion. Emily Wright competed in our State Stream Program (now the limited hours stream of the new ALP system), after a successful competition career in the National Stream Program and became the State 10 Victorian Champion All Around including Apparatus Champion on Vault Bars & Beam! In previous years WGC National Stream m gymnasts have competed successfully in Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Canada, New Zealand and USA. WGC have had gymnasts selected to represent Australia on the National Levels Team in 2003, 2004 & 2008. Success stories include Kristy Whiting winning international international Gold on Vault in 2003 and Jamie Sanders winning international Gold on Floor in 2008 as well as Bronze in the All Around. WGC gymnasts have also had many successes at the Australian Championships, with between 3 and 14 WGC gymnasts selected every year ar to represent Victoria. Victoria. Highlights have included three All around Australian Titles and more than 14 Apparatus Australian Champions in the past 14 1 years. Many of our coaches have been selected as State, National and Australian Team coaches and our gymnasts gymnasts have achieved many State & National awards and placings. In 2014 we had seven out of a possible ten gymnasts gaining places on Victorian State Teams. Bailee Hunsdale, Mikayla George, Logan Sharrock & Taylah Laval all represented Victoria at the Nation National Championships. Bailee, now Australian Bars Champion also placed second on Beam and was part of the third placed Team at Level evel 7. Mikayla and Logan both members of the first place team at Level 9 and Taylah was a member of the first place team at Level 10. 1 Emily Chinnock and Arden Juricskay represented Victoria at the 2014 Trans Bass Challenge. At the 2009 Australian Championships, WGC gymnasts, Jamie Sanders & Rachel Figgis took out 4 of the 5 Australian Titles at National Level 9, by claiming Gold in the All Around, Bars, Beam & Floor, as well as having 4 gymnasts out of 6 in the Victor Victorian National 9 State Team that won Gold! In 2012 at the Junior and & Senior Victorian Championsh Championships, ips, WGC won gold in the team events at National 6 & 7 as well as the Victorian All Around Title at National 6. In 2011 1 at the Junior & Senior Victorian Championships, WGC took out the Victorian All around Titles at National 6 & 7, plus winning gold in the Team events at National 4, 6 & 7. In 2010, at the Senior Victorian Championships, WGC took out the Victorian All around Titles in National Level 6, National 7 & National 10 after winning Gold in all three divisions and winning every team title at the State State Championships that we had a team entered in. Australian ‘Jnr Gymnast of the Year’ 2007 VicSport ‘Athlete of the Year’ finalist in 2008, 2009 and nominated again in 2010. VIS ‘Youth Athlete of the Year’ finalist in 2009 Victorian ‘WG Club of the Year’ in 2009 National Stream Coaches: Heading up the National Stream coaching team is Arlene Hunsdale.. Arlene joined Waverley in 2013 from Northern Ireland, where she was employed for the last six and a half years as the Facilities Manager and Head of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics. She brings with her almost 20 years of coaching experience and expertise. Arlene has a passion for the development of talented gymnastics to achieving their best at a National level. She is particularly experienced in creating strategies and plans to progr progress gymnasts on an individual and group level, encompassing conditioning, skill development and flexibility. She also has a strong background in choreography, specialising in beam and floor. Some recent highlights of Arlene’s career include: being selected as the Gymnastics Ireland Olympic Start Squad Choreography Coach, having her gymnasts selected to represent Northern Ireland at the Celtic Cup, having her gymnasts selected for the Northern Ireland minor squad, and having her gymnasts selected for the Irish 2020 Olympic Start squad. Since arriving in Australia Arlene has been selected as a personal coach (2014) and team coach (2015) for Austrlian Championships and as tteam coach for the 2014 Border Challenge. Arlene has now joined the presenting team for the new ALP choreography for Gy Gymnastics Australia and Gymnastics Victoria. Grace Yang is WGC’s Head of Ballet, she works weekly with every gymnast in our National stream program from NDP 1 to National 10 and conducts all of their annual ballet examinations. Grace danced professionally for the Beijing Institute of Dance and has held leading roles in the renowned Herbei Province Opera and Ballet theatre. She has twice won the Province dance gold medal and a bronze in China’s National Dance Championships. Grace has been teaching ballet to gymnasts at Waverley for nearly 15 years and is a major contributor to our gymnasts continuing competitive success. NDP level 1-3 3 Squad Coach, with a number of great results including 2nd All around team at NDP 3 and 1st on Vault NDP 3. Katrina has also worked at the International Gymnastics Camp in America over two years assisting and developing number of gymnasts achieve their goals and develop as well rounded athletes. Katrina will be coaching our Level 4-10 4 Limited hours teams. Shona Morgan has joined our program in 2015 and currently coaches the Level 1-3 1 3 gymnasts. Shona brings with her a wealth of experience as as a high level gymnast. She has competed in eight Australian Championships, three World Championships and her highlight being the 2008 Beijing Olympics in China. Shona then moved on to study and train in Stanford University in California. She is currently an intermediate coach and developing her career working in both the National and International streams. WGC are also proud to have the experience of Maria Kuksa on our coaching team. Maria began her coaching career in 1961 in Kiev after completing her Diploma of Physical Training at the Kishinev State University. Maria, along with her husband quickly became one of the most respected husband/wife coaching teams in the Soviet Union. Her coaching career highlight was their prodigy gymnast Stella Zakharova, who won both the 1979 and 1980 all around World Championships title and was a member of the Soviet Union gold medal winning Olympic team in 1980. Maria came to Waverley at the end of 2001 and coached John’s senior squad whilst he was in Russia for 3 months. months. She then took over the accelerated level 4/5 squad and now works closely with our National & State Stream programs and she has achieved some remarkable State and National results.
