Building… to end poverty!
The Sweeney
Family
We are looking forward to building
the home for the Sweeney family in
Thamesford or Ingersoll later this
year!
Here is their story…
Craig and Krista Sweeney are parents to three children; their daughter
Justice, who is 12, daughter Kaidince,
who is 10 and son Gryphon, who is
3. Craig works hard six days a week,
while Krista stays home and cares
for their children; two of whom have
Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. The
disease is particularly affecting Justice
who has breathing difficulties as well
as intellectual and physical challenges.
The home that the Sweeneys currently live in is an older structure with a
washroom only on the second floor,
making it more and more difficult to
manage getting the children up and
down the stairs as they get older.
We are all touched by the commitment the Sweeneys have made to
their family and to Habitat. They are
active volunteers, even volunteering prior to being approved for their
TEAM DAY HIGHLIGHT
This month we would like to highlight the “Work In Progress” team. This team of ladies has truly gone above and
beyond with their support of the Women Build! Largely
due to their extremely successful Country Dance fundraiser, these ladies have raised over $5,500! Even though their
Team Day has passed, they continue to collect donations.
It is dedicated and passionate volunteers like the “Work In
Progress” team that drive our organization, and their efforts are genuinely appreciated! Great job ladies!
The “Work In Progress” team having a great day on site with
Construction Manager, George!
Mission
A world where
everyone has a safe
and decent place to
live.
Vision
To mobilize
volunteers and
community partners
in providing
opportunities for
homeownership as
a means of breaking
the cycle of poverty.
Calling
Habitat home. The Sweeneys cite
pride as the greatest feeling they will
have when they move into their new
home. They know they will feel proud
to have a safe, healthy, new home
where they can raise their family.

Our build for the Young Family on Edmonton

on track thanks to our amazing Women Build

and it is coming together beautifully.
We are aiming for a mid-April
Dedication Ceremony, so please
stay tuned for a date for this event.

“I have only recently started
volunteering with Habitat for
Humanity Heartland Ontario. In that small time the impact
it has had on me has been large. From the start the staff were
friendly and professional. I really did not expect to be able get
started on the first try.”
“The build site staff are seasoned professional Carpenters who
give me challenges, answer all of my questions and manage
every phase of the construction—people I want to learn from.
Instructions are given clearly and everyone on site is busy with
their contribution to the goal of the day! There are people of
all different walks of life and skill sets whom I gain a great
amount of knowledge from. Each day I look back at the accomplishments and friends made, and that is very satisfying.”
“Habitat for Humanity provides an inspiring atmosphere in
many ways for people. My passion for building homes brought
me here, but working with others is why I will come back!”
On February 28 a group of
employees from EMCO volunteered at the Adelaide ReStore.
The group was a tremendous help with organizational tasks
around the store. EMCO employees will be volunteering at the
ReStores, Jeans ‘n Classics concerts and on our build sites regularly this year, and we are very
appreciative of their support!
Woodstock ReStore The Woodstock
