Oh Baby - Making Room For Those Nappies

General
Oh baby!
WASTE
Making room for those nappies.
With the red lidded garbage bins
being collected fortnightly instead
of weekly, here are some tips for
dealing with disposable nappies.
As a mother of 3 boys
I remember what it
was like to constantly
change nappies. It
never seemed to take
long for them to pile
up in the garbage bin.
At least with the new
three bin collection
system, once you

and recycling, there should be more room in your
red lidded garbage bin.
Tips to reduce odou r
Suggestions that can help reduce the smell from
nappies being in the red lidded garbage bin include:
PPWrap the nappy into itself using the tabs.
PPSeal nappies tightly in plastic bags (we suggest
double bagging or scented bags) before placing
in the garbage bin.
PPStore the garbage bin in the shade and out of
direct sunlight if possible.
PPMake sure your garbage bin lid closes properly
and there are no cracks in the bin sides. If your
bin is broken or cracked, contact your local
council.
PPConsider using general odour neutralizing
products in your bin, including cat litter, crystals
or bicarbonate of soda.
PPPlace some odour neutralising products in the
foot of a stocking and hang it on the inside of
the red lidded bin, tying the stocking to the
bin lid handle.
What else can we do?
Every disposable nappy ever put in the garbage bin
still exists today as they take centuries to break down.
There are now many modern reusable nappy systems
that are easy to use. Visit halvewaste.com.au or search
cloth nappy system on the internet for examples and
stockists.
While there are compostable nappies on the market,
the current organics composting service does not
accept ANY nappies, so they all must be disposed of
in the red lidded garbage bin, but watch this space!
