Come and meet the new Officers and express your views on how Post 527 can be the best Post in Erie County. We need your participation and support to make this the best year ever! Past Commanders Meeting By PC Al Kusmierz The next Past Commanders Club Meeting will be on Tuesday, May 12th, 2015 at 7:00 PM sharp in the meeting hall. Regular order of business. From the Post Commander… As you may recall, last winter we had to replace a furnace, one of the two that controlled the temperature in the post. After further inspection, it was noted that the second furnace would need replacement before next winter. This was due to cracks in the heat exchanger, and other age related wear and tear. These furnaces have a working life span of approximately 15 years. This has been very costly. To help defray these costs a raffle will be held, the details of which will be explained in an upcoming mailing. Legionnaires, Commander Russ Monin Sons of the Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary all enjoy the use of this post, so it must be stressed that the participation of everyone is very important. This is the last message I will write as Commander of Post #527. When the election was over last May, I was told that the ensuing 12 months would pass more quickly than I could imagine. I expressed some doubt, but they were right. Looking back this year has flown by. Another election looms with a new slate of officers. I know they will find the same level of support and assistance that I have enjoyed. I wish to thank everyone for the opportunity they accorded me when they elected me Commander. I will try to continue helping out to the best of my ability, but this year has been an honor I never expected. God Bless you all. As of March 31, 2015 we have had 935 members whom have sent in their dues for 2015. We have received 29 new members into the American Legion Post 527 as of this date. Our Post 527 welcomes these veterans as new members into the ranks of our organization. As always we are looking to our members to invite veterans to join our Post. Last year we maintained 1000 members, BUT we only had 95% at the years end. This year we stand now at 93%. We need cooperation from the 110 members that have not yet sent in their dues for 2015. I want to thank all those members that have signed up these new members to our organization thus far for the year and look forward to have other members send in their dues as early as possible. We have a great start for the year on membership thus far. We have to go out of our way to meet our goals for the year to try to make 100% this year. As always thank you, for your support. DD-214 is now available online. The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has provided a website for veterans to gain access to their DD-214 online: www.vetrecs.archives.gov Veterans Benefits Counseling Office Veterans Benefits Office is now located Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:00 PM in the Town Clerk’s Office in the Hamburg Town Hall. Register Your DD-214 Forms By Bob Kenefic, Historian Honorably discharged veterans from all branches of the military are encouraged to record their DD-214 forms with the Erie County Clerk’s office. It’s free. The benefits of doing this is that families have a record verifying your service, which can be used for many things including obtaining benefits, employment and burial services. You can do this at the Town Hall or go to www.erie.gov/clerk for information. Dinner Meetings By Commander Russ Monin The May Dinner Meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19th. As members of Post 527 you should be aware that on Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 at 11:00 AM we will be conducting our election of Officers. Nominations from the floor took place on April 7th. It’s important to be able to select the Officers of your choosing that can offer the most representation and input for you as members of this Post. We need members that want to become Officers in this Post to stand up and be counted to do your part. Volunteer or recommend to the Post Officers names of persons that would contribute their time to help run this Post. A position at our Post 527 can be rewarding. Each and every year we move up our officers into new positions thru the voting process leaving other positions open for new nominees to step forward. Any member in the good standing of the American Legion is welcome to be nominated to any position he or she would like to run for as always. All our Officers for years have contributed to the Post functions and everyday duties that have kept this Post one of the biggest in New York State. Some of our Officers have advanced to County positions, you as a member of our Post can take great pride in the job your elected Officers have done for this Post 527 and you our loyal members. This year we have lost our Chaplain William Burke, God rest his soul. Thank you to PC Pat Nealon for stepping up to take care of the Chaplain’s duties.
