Practitioner in Residence, Stephen Spignesi, will discuss his latest book, Grover Cleveland’s Rubber Jaw

Author Visits Highlight
National Library Week
Presentations by two authors with local ties are
scheduled during National Library Week (April 12-18).
At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, former Nutmegger, Jan
Mann (author of the popular Cruising Connecticut with
a Picnic Basket) will introduce her new book, How I
Won the West: A Journey of Discovery, at a gathering in
the library’s Friends’ Room. Jan’s book chronicles her
5-week, 6,400 mile trip through the western states with
only a teddy bear and a can of pepper spray as company. Along the way she offers travel tips for the reader
who is interested in visiting the area. Don’t miss your
opportunity hear about this unique book and meet its
fascinating author.
Former Hamden mayor Peter F. Villano will join us
on Wednesday, April 15, at 7 p.m. in Thornton Wilder
Hall to talk about his new memoir, War to Peace: One
Navy Airman’s Account of the Final Days of World War
II. Villano, who served as mayor from 1981 to 1985 and
as a state legislator from 2011 to 2012, combines diary
entries and photographs from his years in the Navy with
contemporary reflections on his military service to create a distinctive tale of the last days of the war. Both
programs are free and open to the public. Authors will
have copies of their books for sale. No registration is
needed.
