Notes from the Principal
We are heading towards the last week in April and there is
much going on in our district and in our schools.
As most of you know, HEM will have a new principal next
year. After more than 20 years of service to the kids at our end of the
county, Mr. Kari will retire at the end of this year. Steven Priest, who
has been both a Science teacher and technology facilitator in our district,
will assume the role of principal as of July 1. In reality, he is already
getting involved and will have a very busy spring. I will miss Mr. Kari
but I am looking forward to working with Mr. Priest as our commitment
to our students does not end when they graduate from sixth grade. I appreciate the parents from our school who took the time to attend the
community forums for all three candidates. You do have a voice in your
child’s education, and your participation is a big part of their success.
You also may have heard that Mr. Uhling, Saratoga MiddleHigh School principal has been named as our school district’s curriculum director. For the past several years, we have contracted with a gentleman from Evanston to come in and help guide our curriculum development efforts. While this has been a good arrangement, our kids will
benefit from having someone in the district full time to carry the vision
and make sure that all of our efforts are moving forward. I believe that
Mr. Uhling’s knowledge and involvement in our past efforts will be a
huge plus in moving us forward. Of course, Saratoga will also be looking for a new principal and we are looking for a new technology facilitator to fill Mr. Priest’s shoes.
I can’t finish this week without acknowledging that yesterday
was National Administrative Professionals’ Day. Otherwise known as
our secretaries, these wonderful ladies are the first person seen when
you walk into the school and do a fantastic job of keeping us all together. Thank you Mary George, Judy Christopherson, and Courtney Priest
for all you do.
Have a great weekend!
