However, there’s something to keep in mind. We’ve all experienced the dreaded “ice cream headache” at some point in our lives, particularly when we least expect it. We’ll be enjoying our favorite tasty treat, and then BOOM! A sharp shooting pain hits us. On the upside, these headaches usually last only approximately 30 seconds. Curious as to why these headaches appear out of nowhere? Joseph Hulihan of Temple University has a solid answer. “When something cold touches the roof of your mouth on a hot day, it triggers a cold headache. The cause is a dilation of blood vessels in the head. The dilation may be caused by a nerve center located above the roof of your mouth - when this nerve center gets cold, it seems to overreact and tries to heat your brain. Therefore, the easy way to avoid brain freeze would be to keep cold things away from the roof of your mouth!” Celebrating Senior Living Administrative List Leonard Gibson Executive Director Aline Thompson Business Office Manager Robert Hayden Director of Maintenance Kristy Bryant Director of Marketing Tanya Tracey Director of Memory Care Lawanda Jones Director Life Enrichment 4801 Whitesport Circle Huntsville, Alabama 35801 256-650-1155 Janice Basel Director Food Services Birthdays Horty J.......................................................1st James L......................................................1st Miron J.................................................. 15th Frances J............................................... 16th Mary H.................................................. 18th Louis W................................................. 20th Alice M.................................................. 26th Jane G.................................................... 26th Welcome Sarah Henderson AN HRA COMMUNITY Designed/Printed by Corwin Design & Graphics Corp. www.MyCorwinOnline.com • 1-877-CORWIN2 July 2015 The HarborChase Wire: A Monthly Publication of HarborChase Huntsville AL Exciting News…… It's with great humility that we announce HarborChase of Huntsville was chosen as Community of the Year for 2014. W hen determining the day to exchange nuptials, it’s hard to imagine that too many folks would consider an old superstition. But, when you think about how many people incorporate tradition into their wedding plans, it makes sense to think that just as many people might also consider superstition. Dubbed an Unlucky Month for Weddings, July is one of those months that has a bit of negativity associated with it. The old superstition includes lines about July that go something like this: “Married in July, with flowers ablaze/Bitter-sweet mem’ries in after days.” So what does this mean, exactly? It has been suggested over time that “Bitter-sweet mem’ries in after days” makes reference to impending tragedy that will occur, as opposed to a flourishing love. In addition, a variation of this wedding day folklore also denies wealth to the couples that wed in July. Theoretically speaking, fortune most certainly does not shine on those married in July. However, superstitions aside, a marriage is what you make it, regardless of the chosen wedding date. Celebrate Our Independence Independence Day, or the Fourth of July, celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the 13 colonies in 1776, thereby severing their ties to Great Britain. That historic document was drafted by Thomas Jefferson, with substantial edits made by other members of the Congress. An officially inscribed version was signed by 56 members of the Continental Congress on August 2. Celebration of the day began during the American Revolution with fireworks and parades, traditions that continue today. The best-known observance takes place in Washington, D.C., and includes a spectacular fireworks display. Did you know? • A salute of one gun for each state in the United States, called a “salute to the union,” is fired on Independence Day at noon by any capable military base. • The first week of July is one of the busiest American travel periods of the year, as many people utilize the holiday for longer vacation trips. a Cool Breeze On July 17, 1902, the modern air-conditioning was Carrier had successfully designed other useful things, like a lumber dry kiln and a coffee dryer. Today, we don’t think twice about it, especially in the U.S., as it has turned into a luxury most everyone can afford now, or otherwise access publicly. What would we do without it?
