I’d like to welcome you all to
my first issue as publisher of
Hard Tales Magazine.
With this issue, a new chapter begins for Hard Tales. I hope you
will join me in wishing Frank and his team the very best in their future endeavors. The mission going forward is, quite simply, to make
Hard Tales the go-to rider resource for Western New York and the
surrounding areas. Our goal is to better connect and inform the riding community— which includes all riders, of all types, of all machines, who want to know where they can go and be welcomed and
appreciated (without any attitude).
Many hands make light the work. My sincere appreciation goes
out to the advertisers, many of whom have supported the magazine
for years; and others brand new (like me). Without their commitment, Hard Tales may have faded away into the sunset. So many
people have expressed interest in keeping the magazine going, offering their support to help us grow and improve with every future
issue. I cannot thank you all enough for your help and guidance in
preparing this issue over the last few weeks. I also want to thank my
new best friend, Mike, the behind the scenes guy schooling me in
magazine design and production.
Speaking of improvements, there is a lot of work ahead of us as
the weather warms and the machines come out of hibernation. We
want to strengthen the editorial content within our pages. We welcome everyone to submit articles (with photos!) that they believe
their fellow riders will find interesting and informative. Send us recaps (with photos!) of runs, rider gatherings, happenings, events,
parties, etc. And please email us with suggestions. We’re also building a new website and upgrading our Facebook page.
In the coming months, I’ll be attending as many rider events as
I can. I hope to see you there. If you see me, please come and say
hello. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the magazine and how we
can make it even better! I always enjoy constructive feedback.
I hope you enjoy this issue, and encourage you to please patronize the businesses and people who advertise with us and keep
Hard Tales free to you, our reader.

Local Bike Wins in Syracuse
Tony Marinaro’s 1981 Shovelhead
took “First in Class” this February
at Syracuse Cycle Expo 2015
This is my bike. It's a 1981 shovelhead. This is actually the second
time I built this bike. The first time ended when I got hit by a car on her
in 2013. She was totaled. There wasn't a part on her that wasn't broke,
bent, scratched, or gone. I bought it back from the insurance company
and put her in the garage. That's where she sat until that winter. I
wanted to do something I never saw before. I had an idea of turning part
of the engine backwards. I also wanted split rockers just because I love
the look.
That's when I ended up at B.A. Enterprises talking with Dave Reidenouer. After a short discussion he was on board with the idea. Next
came months in the garage. Torches, welders, and grinders going every
night fueled by cold beer and my brothers coming by to help and check
on my progress. After the frame was straight, I welded in gussets for
strength. I didn't want the frame to crack in any places that 4 speed
frames are known for. I split the rockers myself and also had to fabricate a top motor mount and the exhaust pipes. I ended up massaging
every part on the bike to make them my own. I did the paint myself in
my South Buffalo garage. I am thrilled
with how the bike turned out.
I want to thank Grott from the Hog
Farm for his support and Dave from B.A.
Enterprises for all their help. Without the
knowledge that was shared with me, this
bike would not have come out so cool.

Street Savvy – Motorcycle
Insurance 101. N.Y. State
“No” No Fault For Motorcycles
Shifting Gears by Flyboy
Served 28 years in the U.S. Air Force, The Kantor Law Firm
Personal Injury, Motorcycle Accident Attorneys. Been in the saddle riding for 45 years
Another riding season is right around
the corner. Soon, thousands of motorcyclists will hit the road as soon as the
weather breaks with the official riding season starting with Memorial Day weekend,
followed by a summer of rallies, bike
nights, group rides and tours. Before
pulling out of your driveway, take a few
minutes to review your insurance policy.
Having adequate coverage will help protect your legal rights and the rights of your
passenger if you’re ever involved in an accident.
Buying the right motorcycle insurance
can be tricky. All types of insurance coverage’s aren’t available in all states, and
state requirements vary. In New York
State’s case, motorcycles are covered
under a separate policy from other vehicles
and are not covered under the No Fault
coverage. Also, your coverage does not
cover medical benefits on your policy. In
that case, be sure you have other medical
insurance. Otherwise, you could be left
with many thousands of dollars in hospital
bills after an accident.
New York State requires a minimum
for Uninsured Liability is $25,000, Underinsured is $50,000 this can save you a few
dollars every month, but it can’t protect
your financial security in the long run.
Find out which options you can
choose, and think about the coverage options that will best protect you, your passengers and your family. You can make
policy updates at any time. Just don’t wait
until after you’ve been in an accident!
Then, it's too late.
There are a couple types of coverage
you may want to consider adding to your
existing policy. The first is Bodily Injury
Liability, which will cover any claims
against you if you are found legally responsible for causing someone to be injured. The second is Uninsured/ Underinsured Motorist Coverage, which will
protect you if you’re involved in an accident with a financially irresponsible motorist.
Look at your motorcycle insurance on
your existing coverage. It’s important to
know your type of coverage because of the
large number of uninsured underinsured
motorists on the streets today. Having the
proper coverage allows you to collect
against your own insurance policy if you
are injured by a uninsured / underinsured
motorist or injured by a hit-and-run driver.
New York State Insurance Law under article 51, Insurance law excludes motorcycles under the no fault law and your
passenger is not covered. For spouses you
should have spouse liability coverage.
For example: Insured's bodily injury
policy coverage limit: Uninsured/underinsured Motorist coverage $100,000/
$300,000 or 250,000/500,000 Insured's
bodily injury damage claim paid to spouse:
$75,000 Insured's bodily injury policy coverage limit available to all other claimants
subject to a maximum of $100,000 per person.
This example assumes the spouse and
other claimants involved in the accident
have a right to sue the insured for economic loss or for non-economic loss (i.e.,
pain and suffering) sustained as a result of
a "serious injury" as defined in Section
5102 (d) of the Insurance Law. This coverage CAN be added to a motorcycle policy as well. It operates the same way on a
motorcycle policy.
When talking to an agent, ask questions: What are my coverage options?
What are the stipulations and exceptions
for each type of coverage? What are the

Catching Up Is Hard To Do
Wow, that time off flew by. There sure
were things I wished I could chime in on
with an opinion when it was happening.
Old news isn’t worth much, unless it is a
problem that never seems to go away.
Currently, both nationally and locally, the Native American mascot
for sports teams’ concept is still lingering. It’s hard to believe there is even a
debate at all. You would think the people in charge would have the brains
enough to just say “Yeah, folks we can’t
call ourselves Redskins anymore, it’s
really offensive. We’ve got to pick a
new name. Something everyone can
agree on.” This should be put in the
same category as spray painting
Swastikas or burning crosses.
To talk with the people that want to
preserve it, you’d think they were talking about an annoying dog that barks a
lot. “Oh, it’s not that bad, it’s always
been like that.”
The problem is one of perspective.
If what you are doing doesn’t bother
you, which is certainly most likely,
(why would you?) you become oblivious to
the world around you. If you make someone uncomfortable or feel insulted, threatened or have any unpleasant emotion, you
shouldn’t have a “That’s their problem.” attitude. It’s your problem for inflicting it
upon them. They can’t stop feeling what
they are feeling until YOU stop doing what
you are doing.
I know some people that play up the
“Scary Biker” image a little bit too much. I
know others that always have a smile and
a greeting for everyone they meet. Know it
or not, like it or not, they represent a
group... All Riders leave an impression
(let’s hope it’s not on the passenger side
door). It can be street, trail, dirt etc., that
doesn’t matter. Whoever sees them and
what they do, form an impression that includes the whole group.
Stereotypes take time to form and time
to fade. It just requires a little action over a
period of time. We as riders should always be aware of that, especially with
cameras on everybody’s phone. There
has never been a better way for “One
bad apple to spoil the whole bunch
through.” than for a motor cyclist to
make You Tube doing the attention getting antics people hate.
In a Parallel Thinking world footnote, I have devised a great plan to get
even with the jerk that keeps pulling his
boat right up in front of me while I am
wading to fish. I tried asking him nicely,
he said “It’s a free country and it’s a
public river.” This guy is in a boat on an
entirely empty West Niagara River. I
am wading 40 feet from shore and he
stops 20 ft in front of me! So I asked
him if he was lonely? I told him he is
being a jerk. It was really frustrating.
After he finally leaves it occurs to
me what to do next time something like
this happens. I’m going to complement his
boat and tell him my friend is looking for
one just like it. Mind if I send him a pic?
Then I start filming him. Get him to say his
name and finally narrate the video. “Here I
am on the Niagara River with this A-Hole

(Insert name here) fishing directly in front of me.” I’ll pan the entire river devoid of boats. I’ll then tell my rude guest to look for
himself on You Tube under “Idiot Boater Comes too Close for
Comfort” or something to that effect. I am going to immortalize
someone’s inconsideration of others, for everyone to see, through
all of eternity. It’s harsh but fair considering the sanctity of fishing spots. It should get a million views and I get revenge without
all the fuss.
I hope everyone got their winter projects done on their rides.
Should be a great season, we deserve it after that brutal winter.
Speaking of winter, Google “Joe Barrett ice boom” to read about
what should be happening if not for the N.Y.P.A. ice boom. It
would be a better Lower Great Lakes without it, that’s for sure.
There's a lot more to that story that wasn't fit to print. I'll tell
you in person sometime.
Send your suggestions on topics if you have them, there is no
problem I can’t solve.

Welcome back fellow rider’s,
friend’s and everybody in between. We
have a couple of of “news” going on
around here at Ol’ Hard Tales magazine. First, maybe a riding season (if
the winter from hell ever finally exits
WNY). And secondly, a new owner.
My new boss Steve. Steve just took
over the reins from Hard Tales founder
Frankie, who discovered the mag 13
years ago. So, off into year 14 we go as
Frankie sails off into retirement.
So, what better place to lead off
my first column of the new year than
in the Land of Fruits and Nuts. Sunny
California. They never seem to disappoint. Well, there was this female,
working out in her local/national gym.
All good with that. So, after she completes her workout, she heads to she
woman’s locker room to change and
whatnot and that’s when things got a
little complicated. You see, there is a
dude standing there. Changing from
“his” workout. Not so good with
that. Wo Wo Wo!! Not in here she
thought. Get in your own room. So
after a few choice words to this “guy”,
off she went to management with a formal complaint. Upon further review...her
membership was revoked. Huh? Well, it
seems the “guy” was actually becoming a
“her”. And apparently at that stage of the
game you can pick whichever locker room
you so please and he/she chose the latter.
Guess the sex change started at her head and
didn’t get quite past the belt line at that point.
And worse, the fine print of the contract she
signed stated that discrimination will not be
tolerated. And out she went. Guess the lesson of this story is either read the fine print of
the contract you are about to sign, or just
have co-ed changing rooms.
Another one of my favorite topics is
about the biggest welfare recipient in the
world. The Queen of England. What
16
brought this up was that I happened to be in
one of my insomniatic states at around 3 in
the morning, and while channel flipping I
stumbled upon a story about what England
will do when their beloved freeloader is no
longer with us. Heck, that’s an easy one.
Nothing!! Eliminate the position. Be like all
the companies around the nation...don’t replace her at all. And save the salary. Seeing
that The Crown Estate is worth an estimated
at $13 billion dollars, I think the family will
be okay. The only thing I ever saw her do is
wave...and she doesn’t even do that right. I
will say, the only guy in that bunch that is tolerable is Prince Harry. Any guy who like’s to
run around naked in Las Vegas must be a lot
of fun to booze with.
I’m not a big fan of flying. Not because
I’m a big scardy cat or anything, it’s
just because it can sometimes really be
a hassle. And people seem to bring
their mean streaks with them. On a recent flight, I got to watch quite a show,
that you can only see, well, in an airport or on a plane. The pre-boarding
was a kick. This gives the handicapped
(like the phony guy in the wheelchair,
more on him later), people with young
kids, military, special needs and something called comfort dogs. Huh?
Guess you are special if you bring little
Fluffy the dog with you. After all this
foolishness, I scanned the remaining
crowd, and realized I was pretty much
the only “normal” guy flying. Everybody else seemed to have some type of
courtesy for early boarding. And first
crack at overhead storage space.
Which I didn’t. Oh I get it now. Come
up with some bullshit excuse to get on
early, bring on your oversized carry on,
and take my up space with it. Got it.
Root cause of this charade is all the El
Cheapo’s don’t want to pay to check
in a bag, and need all the room in the
over head compartments. Nice. And
the guy in the wheelchair? Who
needed all that help and whatnot? He stood
up upon arrival, grabbed his bag, and off he
went. What a sleaze ball.
In my quest to make ton’s and ton’s of
money, and basically do nothing to get my
paws on it...I like to see how other people get
theirs. In a recent column I stated Chelsea
Clinton was commandeering $75,000 a wack
to speak. What she has to say, who knows,
but her Mom, Hillary Clinton is a whole new
ball game. The former First Lady just left U.
of Buffalo’s Distinguished Speakers series
with a cool $275,000. For a whole half hour
talk. Guess she fielded a few real softball
questions at the end, from selected “questionnaires”. Such as “Do you like the BufContinued on page 19...

benefits for choosing insurance through your agency? In what circumstances would my rates increase? How can I contact you? Does
the agency have emergency numbers to use if I’m in an accident?
Find someone who responds quickly to your questions and is up
front about coverage options. Word-of-mouth is the best form of
advertising, so get recommendations from friends and family.
It’s impossible to completely eliminate your chances of being
in an accident. Many drivers don’t exercise as much caution around
motorcyclists as they should. An animal could run out in front of
you. A drunk driver could drift into your lane. But by having adequate motorcycle insurance coverage, you’ll know that you’re
being proactive in protecting your family, legal rights and your financial security. You will find this coverage is modestly priced
All I can say is ride safe this 2015 season; it’s dangerous out
there. Always remember you are “invisible” out on the road. If for
some reason you or someone you know has an accident remember
to contact the lawyers that ride, The Kantor Law Firm at (716) 6260404 or 1-877-SKATOR. www.kantorlaw.org

falo Bills”? “Do you like chicken wings”? Please.
Or, how about Kevin Jarman from Queens NY. Good ol’ Kevin,
a frequent flyer arrest guy, got caught shoplifting. Again. Apparently the arresting officer made him stumble, broke his leg, and sued
NYC for $510,000, and won. He knows the game. He sued, and
won for $15,000 in 2005 and another for $20,000 earlier this year.
Perfect.
I am now going to give a little thank you. A thanks to a now retired friend, Frankie Hard Tales. He gave an opportunity for
an “only one column, to fill a page”, in his magazine, for a knucklehead, over-opinionated, sometimes factual guy (me). That was seven
years ago. And somehow I haven’t offended anybody enough to lose
this neat gig I have going. You have done a great job over the years
Frankie, and certainly set the stage for some new blood to carry on
the great tradition. Thanks Buddy.
And in closing, till next time. Ride It Like You Stole It!!

Gowanda Harley-Davidson
HISTORY
Family and community are synonymous at Gowanda HarleyDavidson. Established by the late John S. Reid in 1947, together
with his wife Babs, he delivered the local mail while selling and servicing Harley-Davidson motorcycles from a small barn located behind their house. They raised ten children and set the foundation for
a successful dealership centered on taking care of customer. Six of
the children; John Reid, the late-Tony Reid, Marty Reid, Bob Reid,
Monica (Reid) Hall and Paula (Reid) Rosen would help transform
the old barn into the modern dealership beloved today.
WELCOME HOME
Today, Gowanda Harley-Davidson remains the one of the longest
continuously family owned dealerships in the country and ranks
amongst the best in customer satisfaction. The dealership customer
base extends throughout Western New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania, and draws motorcycle tourism to Gowanda from across the
country to experience our region. Generations of local Harley-Davidson motorcycle owners now share stories of being introduced to the
Reid family and Gowanda Harley-Davidson at an early age for a visit
with Santa Claus or an Autumn Open House picnic. This cross-generational sharing of the connections that can be found throughout the
motorcycling community transcends and continue to make Gowanda
Harley-Davidson and the Gowanda community a welcoming home.

• Gowanda’s Historic Hollywood Theater
• Gowanda Food Pantry

Bat-Rat-A-Tat-Tat...
AFTER
BEFORE
Most Recently Gowanda Harley-Davidson hosted
a unique event geared toward the beginner entering the
V-Twin world. The GHD Techs put their nerves to the
test with a 3 hour rat transformation project. Guests
were invited to attend and participate to bring some
new life to a tired 1994 XLH1200. The project was designed to show what someone could do with an inexpensive Harley, spare parts, traded parts, spray paint
and some affordable cosmetic ideas. With their 3 “A
H-D techs” and service manager, the team was able to
make some radical changes to end up bringing the
“Bat-Rat” to life. Doug Merrill a customer of Gowanda Harley was invited
to the event by his Grandson Trenten
and commented about the professionalism of the GHD techs and said “I was
so impressed how your guys could
work like that, and I didn’t hear any
swearing. Everybody worked right
along getting the job done with no
shouting, and it looked great in the
end.”
The stars of the show turned out to
be Tin foil for masking off, home made
paint stencils from masking tape and
wax paper and Harley-Davidson’s®
Flat Black Spray paint. Visit Gowanda
Harley-Davidson® Youtube channel to
see some great footage including a time
lapse video of the evening.

braved the cold to see their friends, dance to the Bone Shakers

& Benefit Party
SAVE THE DATE…Saturday, September 19th, 2015
Each month over 116,000 less fortunate Western New Yorkers
turn to soup kitchens, food pantries, and other emergency food
providers for assistance. Since 1979, the Food Bank of WNY has
been helping individuals in need by acting as a bridge between
available food sources and agencies servicing them. The Food
Bank of Western New York services over 41,000 households in
Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie & Niagara Counties. This is an increase of 14% over last year. The number of children and infants
served has increased to 43,875. The number of senior citizens
using member agencies has increased 53% from last year to a
record of 13,194.
The Food Bank distributes food to 336 member agencies that
feed the less fortunate in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, and Niagara Counties. These are child care centers, food pantries, group
homes, senior programs, shelters, soup kitchens, and summer
camps. The Food Bank of WNY provides more than 15 million
pounds of food annually across the four counties it serves.
It’s time to polish those pipes, strap on those helmets and ride
for the cause…Saturday, September 19th; it’s the Fifteenth AnnualFood Bank of Western New York Motorcycle Run & Benefit
Party. All the fun starts with a 9:30am registration for the scenic
motorcycle dice run. The dice run will include stops at Squire

Dealer Of The Year’s CVO Road Glide
The 2012 CVO
Road Glide built
by Drag Specialties
Chattahoochee
River Run’s
Dealer of the Year
Scott Fentzke.
2012 Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide
Customized By Scott Fentzke
Performance Fabrication Inc.
A simple snapshot of what’s possible with
some know-how, good taste and the FatBook.
Those Performance Machine rotors and
front wheel, Ness fork legs and Yaffe
sliders really make the front-end pop.
That Scott Fentzke is a detail man is
apparent. All one had to do was get up close
and personal with the 2012 Harley- Davidson CVO Road Glide he and his wife Pam
30
piloted through the two days of the Chattahoochee River Run. Multiyear veterans of
the annual ride, the Fentzkes were named
the run’s Dealer of the Year.
The bike is an exercise in restraint and
taste, a combination of parts taken straight
from the FatBook and artfully assembled
into a whole that’s clearly more than the
sum of its pieces. As the owner of Performance Fabrication Inc. in West Falls, NY,
near Buffalo, Fentzke’s been building customs since the 70s — a long time to sharpen
that eye for detail.
Way back when he was customizing
Japanese bikes he idolized legends like
Arlen Ness, Donnie Smith and Dave Perewitz. After building a custom Softail that
made it into Hot Bike, his business was
born. Bikes were a side gig while he worked
fulltime, eventually opening his shop in
1992.
All of those years of experience are
clearly distilled into the CVO he bought
brand spanking new in late 2011. At first he
only did the exhaust and fuel system, but
then a local buddy bought the exact same
model — his town wasn’t big enough for
the two of those bikes — so he got to work.
He started the build with a Grand Idea
of the finished product. “I was always into
details about the things I did,” Fentzke says.
“You have to be able to put the right parts
together to get the perfect combination.”
While he’d always been a chrome nut, he
liked the trend toward blacked-out bikes
and thought with the bike’s OE colors,
black was the way to go. On went those
Ness fork legs, that Performance Machine
wheel and a blacked-out exhaust.
Engine-wise, the black Revolution Performance Big Bore kit with highlighted fins
was another nice touch. And then some
RSD cam covers and rocker box covers, and
some bits like Ness shifter, brake arm and
shifter rod. From nose to tail, that CVO absorbed more of those FatBook products —
from the Yaffe Monkey bars and headlight
Scoowl to the Mustang solo and passenger
seats and Legend Suspensions REVO
shocks, it’s a rolling testament to Fentzke’s
talent and the scope of that Drag Specialties
catalog.
“I just think it really turned out well.
I’ve got so many people who want to buy
that bike,” he says. “I’ve had three
Screamin’ Eagles and this is by far the best
one I’ve had.”

Eden Chopper Class #15
Facebook/Eden Chopper Class
Pardon the interruption, but as you
read this please take an opportunity to reflect about what you hear and read regarding “failing schools” in New
York State. March is here and
we just had our first fifty degree day in months, so the
full-time two wheel season is
just around the corner for us
in Western New York. That
means wind on our faces, grit
on the roads and people driving four wheels and re-learning how to keep their eyes
open for bikes - so please be
careful. March also represents when the Chopper
Class makes its annual visit
to Saint Paul Minnesota so
the kids can enter their current build into the Donnie
Smith Chopper Class Challenge. The trip is always
great for the kids and parent
chaperones that attend it, but
it also means that Matt Saramak and I must
select our eight best performing/most committed students to represent the entire
Chopper Club. The kids in Eden Central
Schools own this Club and to tell any of
them that they are not deserving of checking out the “big show” just sucks. Regardless, the students are in full blown crunch
time right now because we only have about
two weeks until we are on the road heading
west. After eight years and nine individual
builds, one thing is certain each and every
bike the kids have completed provides
never-ending problem solving opportunities. For this year’s build, we call it the
BSA, the challenges have continued and
32
many have been unique (to say the least).
As in years past, the Chopper Club
members/builders range in age from eleven
(7th grade) to eighteen (12th grade). Likewise, their knowledge and skill levels relating to the Technical/Chopper/Fabrication
worlds vary greatly. Every year we have
new students join the Club and this year was
certainly no exception. A wave of seventh
grade students joined the cause which added
a lot of enthusiasm and questioning to
everyday operations. With approximately
forty five Club members involved each
year, it is essential that the veteran/older students model and teach the younger members how to work in the shop and the overall
responsibilities of being a member. A perfect example is Emily Cataldo, who has
been working/learning under the tutelage of
JEREMY KEMLER/COUNTY SEATS for
many years and began passing it forward to
Megan Armbruster this year, so that she can
begin developing her leather
working skills in order to
create custom motorcycle
seats. Likewise, Andrew
Maggs and Bryan Haley
have both been working with
many younger members reinforcing the fundamentals
of everything from proper
grinder technique/safety to
the TIG welding setup.
Eden’s build team members
for 2015 are Andrew Maggs,
Justin Keller, Bryan Haley,
Joe Haier, Danny/Albert
Hoelscher, Jon Haier, Megan
Armbruster
and
Liz
Lemieux. Each one, as well
as their parents and family
members, has dedicated
countless hours of personal
time to learn, practice and in
some cases nearly perfect the skills associated with motorcycle design and fabrication. The term “dedicated” simply does not
give justice to the level of ownership these
kids reflect/display every day in the shop
and in life. This tenacity is taught by parents and reinforced within the schools walls.
Parents, community, businesses, dedicated
students, teachers and administrators are all
working together with a singular purposeteach the next generation of American citizens the love of the Technical arts/world
and how to solve problems. I am biased and
a bit stubborn/traditional/old school (whatever you want to call it) but tell me how this
can be considered failing?

Shifting gears, for those of you who
may not know, BSA is the abbreviation for
Birmingham Small Arms. Birmingham
Small Arms produced motorcycles in the
U.K. from 1910 to 2007. A few years ago
we received a donation from Zack Palmer,
a graduated Chopper Class member, when
he dropped off two very, very, rough 1951
BSA bantams. His vision was for the students to use the salvageable parts from both
machines to create one restored machine.
Years and builds passed but the time never
seemed to be right to utilize those BSAs.
Little did we realize what it means to build
a British made machine. First of all, parts
that are coming all the way from the U.K.
sure take a while to get to the States. This
creates some serious scheduling issues. Secondly, they are not like Harleys from the
standpoint that most people in that part of
the world must really be fit because this
Bantam is not designed for a modern American man. Despite the unusual challenges
the kids have done a great job staying on
task and adapting what they already know
about domestic motorcycles to this little
British machine.
So the BSAs were rusted, broken,
missing parts and old. After spending a couple of months disassembling the bikes and
separating the good from the bad we got
down to the engines. Both were seized and
after attempting to split the cases on number
one and breaking the left side case we had
to
call
in
the
reinforcements.
TONAWANDA DAVE/B.A. ENTERPRISES made the trip to the school with
BRUCE and after five hours of discussion,
heat and a bunch of penetrating oil we managed to salvage the other cases. That was
the easy part. Trying to find internal engine
components like connecting rods for an
early British two stroke proved to be almost
impossible. But we did eventually manage
to find just about everything we needed to
get her road-ready. Although the little
British bike has not sparked to life at this
point, it will be happening soon.
Several years ago five bright-eyed
eighth graders showed up for Chopper Class

meetings in early September. That same
dedicated group of students has stayed together and united since those early meetings
of 2011. Their unity/commitment to the
practice and eventual mastery of the Technical Arts has designed and fabricated many
of the Chopper Classes most unique creations. A few years ago the core crew had a
sixth amigo join the mix. Andrew Maggs,
Bryan Haley, Joe Haier, Howie Hoelscher,
Keven Kuebler and Justin Keller did not
simply maintain the Club that they became
a part of as twelve year olds, they improved
it in almost every way possible. I/we as a
school are proud of the young men they
have become and are excited to see the great
things they will accomplish in their indi-
34
vidual post high school futures. Their leadership and passion will be greatly missed as
the next generation of Chopper Kids takes
hold of the reins. These six are leaving some
giant shoes to fill so please wish them the
CONTINUED
best if you happen to see them.
Now for the masterlink in the Chopper
Class educational chain our sponsors. We
are one of a about a dozen schools across
North America that use motorcycles as an
instructional tool routinely. Having spoken
to many of the instructors/program coordinators at length it always seems a bit unfair
to me. Eden’s students literally get help
from the best that the motorcycling and
many accompanying industries have to
offer. Sometimes it’s master techs providing invaluable insight and trade experience
and others times it’s the ability to use cutting-edge abrasives or industry leading lubricants. Occasionally, but pretty
consistently it is a Western New York bike
enthusiast who wants to help out by drop-

ping off some take off parts for the kids to use on one of their
builds. And so it goes and grows! Another year, more great students who are unstoppable and sponsors who sacrifice part of their
ledger balance because they give a damn. Just don’t see how that’s
failing!? In closing, winter was brutal and everyone’s two wheeled
machines took a beating. Please consider purchasing whatever you
need from our sponsors. Their products/services are top notch and
their prices are fair. Disclaimer: many of them are bikers so don’t
get your feelings hurt if they don’t smile when you walk through
the shop door, it’s their busy season. Can’t thank you enough for
the continued support.

THE NEW PRIEST
The new priest is ner-vous about hearing confessions for the first time, so he asks an older
priest to sit in on his sessions.
The new priest hears a couple confessions,
then the old priest asks him to step out of the
confessional for a few suggestions.
The old priest sug-gests,“Cross you arms over
your chest, and rub your chin with one hand.”
The new priest tries this.
The old priest sug-gests, “Try saying things
like, ‘I see,’ ‘yes, go on,’ and ‘I un-derstand.’ ‘How did
you feel about that?’”
The new priest says those things.
The old priest says, “Now, don’t you think
that’s a little better than slapping your knee and
saying, ‘No shit?!? What happened next?’”
ONE DAY IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN…
Eve : Adam, do you really love me?
Adam: no, not really.
Eve : WHAT?! Then why did you make love to
me??
Adam: HELLO?!? as if I had a choice!
A WATERMELON FARMER
A watermelon farmer was determined to
scare off the local kids who went into his
watermelon patch every night to eat their fill.
After some thought, he made a sign that
read, “WARNING! ONE OF THESE WATERMELONS
HAS BEEN INJECTED WITH CYANIDE!”
He smiled smugly as he watched the kids run
off the next night without eating any of his melons.
A week later, the farmer was surveying his
field. To his satisfaction, no watermelons were
missing, but a sign next to his read, “NOW THERE
ARE TWO!”
TWO GUYS AND A UNION WORKER
Two guys and a union worker were fishing on
a lake one day, when Jesus walked across the
water and joined them in the boat. When the three
astonished men had settled down enough to
speak, the first guy asked humbly, “Jesus, I’ve
suffered from back pain ever since I took shrapnel
in the Vietnam war…could you help me?”
“Of course, my son”, Jesus said, and when
he touched the man’s back, he felt relief for the
first time in years.
The second man, who wore very thick glasses
and had a hard time reading and driving, asked if
Jesus could do anything about his eyesight.
Jesus smiled, removed the man’s glasses and
tossed them in the lake. When they hit the water,
the man’s eyes cleared and he could see
everything distinctly.
When Jesus turned to heal the union worker,
the guy put his hands up and cried defensively,
“Don’t touch me! I’m on long term disability.”
THREE PEOPLE DIE
Three people die, a Doctor a school teacher
and the head of a large HMO, when met at the
pearly gates by St. Peter he asks the Doctor 'what
did you do on Earth?'
The Dotor replied, I healed the sick and if they
could not pay I would do it for free. St. Peter told
the Doctor, 'you may go in.'
St. Peter then asked the teacher what she
did, she replied, I taught educationally challenged
children. St. Peter then told her 'you may go in.'
St. Peter asked the third man, 'what did you
do?' The man hung his head and replied, 'I ran a
large HMO.' To which St. Peter replied, 'you may go
in, but you can only stay 3 days.'
A FRIEND TO ANOTHER
A friend to another, “what are the names of
your dogs?”
The she responded that one was named
Rolex and the other Timex.
Her friend said, "Whoever heard of someone
naming dogs like that?"
"HellOOOooo," answered the blonde. "They're
watch dogs."
A FELLOW BOUGHT A NEW MERCEDES
A fellow bought a new Mercedes and was out
on the interstate for a nice evening drive. The top
was down, the breeze was blowing through what
was left of his hair and he decided to open her
up. As the needle jumped up to 80 mph, he
suddenly saw flashing red and blue lights behind
him.
“There’s no way they can catch a Mercedes,”
he thought to himself and opened her up further.
The needle hit 90, 100…. Then the reality of
the situation hit him.
“What am I doing?” he thought and pulled
over.
The cop came up to him, took his license
without a word and examined it and the car.
“It’s been a long day, this is the end of my
shift and it’s Friday the 13th. I don’t feel like more
paperwork, so if you can give me an excuse for
your driving that I haven’t heard before, you can
go.”
The guy thinks for a second and says, “Last
week my wife ran off with a cop. I was afraid you
were trying to give her back!”
“Have a nice weekend,” said the officer.
A MAN IS IN A BAR
A man is in a bar and falling off his stool
every couple of minutes. He is obviously drunk. So
the bartender says to another man in the bar:
"Why don't you be a good Samaritan and take him
home."
The man takes the drunk out the door and to
his car and he stumbles at least ten times. They
drive along and the drunk points out his house to
the man. He stops the car and the drunk stumbles

up the steps to his house with the man.
The drunk's wife greets them at the door:
"Why thank you for bringing him home for me, but
where's his wheel chair?"
DEAR DOGS,
When I say to move, it means go someplace
else, not switch positions with each other so there
are still two dogs in the way.
The dishes with the paw print are yours and
contain your food. The other dishes are mine and
contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print
in the middle of my plate and food does not stake
a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do
I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR
and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom
is not the object. Tripping me doesn’t help,
because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king size
bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will
continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your
comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can
actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to
sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out
to the fullest extent possible. I also know that
sticking tails straight out and having tongues
hanging out the other end to maximize space used
is nothing but doggy sarcasm.
My compact discs are not miniature Frisbees.
For the last time, there is not a secret exit
from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you
there and manage to get the door shut, it is not
necessary to claw, whine, try to turn the knob, or
get your paw under the edge and try to pull the
door open. I must exit through the same door I
entered. In addition, I have been using bathrooms
for years, canine attendance is not mandatory.
The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the
other dogs butt. I cannot stress this enough. It
would be such a simple change for you.
MY GIRLFRIEND IS OUT IN THE CAR
A man had been drinking at the bar for hours
when he mentioned something about his girlfriend
being out in the car. The bartender, concerned
because it was so cold, went to check on her.
When he looked inside the car, he saw the man's
friend, Dave, and his girlfriend kissing one another.
The bartender shook his head and walked back
inside.
He told the drunk that he thought it might be
a good idea to check on his girlfriend. The fellow
staggered outside to the car, saw his buddy and
his girlfriend kissing, then walked back into the bar
laughing.
"What's so funny?" the bartender asked.
"That stupid Dave!" the fellow chortled, "He's
so drunk, he thinks he's me!"
FOUR NUNS
Four nuns were attending a baseball game.
Four men were sitting directly behind them.
Because their habits were partially blocking
the view, the men decided to badger the nuns
hoping that they’d get annoyed enough to move to
another area.
In a very loud voice, the first guy said, "I think
I’m going to move to Utah. There are only 100
nuns living there."
Then the second guy spoke up and said, "I
want to go to Missouri, there are only 75 nuns
living there."
The third guy said, "I want to go to Texas,
there are only 50 nuns living there."
The fourth guy said, "I want to go to Maine.
There are only 25 nuns living there."
The mother superior turned around, looked
at the men, and in a very sweet and calm voice
said, "Why don’t you go to hell, there aren’t any
nuns there!"
