GRADE 5 CAMP 2015
We are heading to camp at Sovereign Hill in July. This is some information about
the enjoyable camp:
Heany Park staff will be in attendance along with some Dads.
The estimated cost for our camp is between $260.00 and $280.00 per student.
The final cost can only be determined once we have the definite numbers of
students attending. Therefore we require a $50.00 deposit to indicate each
student’s intention to attend. This deposit is due by the 1st May, 2015 and will
be deducted from the final cost of the camp.
Please be advised that this is a non-refundable deposit.

MUSEUM OF AUSTRALIAN DEMOCRACY
Students will experience a blend of interactive touch tables, immersive speeches
and music rooms and a guided tour as they discover the events surrounding the
historic Eureka Stockade incident.
EDUCATION SESSIONS
Students will join the “rush” to One Eye Gully and through role play re-live the
highs and lows of gold fever and trials and tribulations that built up to the
Eureka stockade.
We will explore the stories and reasons behind people migrating to the gold rush
and discover the legacies that were left.
RED HILL MINE TOUR
Students will take a walk through the Red Hill Mine and while listening to the
story behind the discovery of the Welcome Stranger, gain a sense of feeling as
to what life would be like working in a mine.
DEMONSTRATIONS
Students will witness the making of the well-known raspberry drops and dipping
of candles. The popular Gold Smelting demonstration will finish our visit to
Sovereign Hill.
SPENDING MONEY
Students will get time to explore the shops and purchase souvenirs for
themselves or family members and raspberry drops to share or consume at
camp. Students may bring no more than $15.00 to be spent on the designated
afternoon from 4.00pm – 5.00pm within the grounds of the Sovereign Hill
complex. Students will be supervised by an adult during this time.
This money is to be handed to the student’s classroom teacher in a SEALED
envelope with the student’s name and class clearly marked. Staff will
take the money to camp and distribute it back to the students at Sovereign Hill.
Collection of this spending money will be from the 20th to 27th of July. Please be
aware that no spending money will be accepted the morning we leave for
camp.

3pairs of long pants – e.g. jeans or track pants

any medicine labelled and dosage marked and handed in prior to
departure
torch with new batteries
camera – disposable preferred – digital cameras taken at own risk
optional: $15 spending money in named envelope. To be handed to
class teacher the week before leaving for camp

containers please - to be transported in a small backpack
