From the outset the Henley Festival has been intent on sharing its successes by working in the wider community and in 2015 we celebrate a second year of a major partnership with The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts. Once again thanks to the generosity of its Patrons, Friends, Sponsors and you our audience, national and regional projects will take place with any profit generated at the Festival. Profits from 2014 have seen children being given unique opportunities to discover art, theatre and 8 poetry in Milton Keynes, Reading and in East London where otherwise the doors would have remained closed. We are also proud to continue our programme of supporting local arts organisations and charities in and around Henley. This year we are supporting projects with grants for Camp Mohawk, Henley Youth Choir, Headway, and Music on the Meadows, plus providing live music for local care homes. Lastly we continue a seventh consecutive year of support for the Henley Festival Orchestra and look forward to welcoming them to the Festival this year during the day on Saturday. 9 W E D N E S DAY 8 T H J U LY FLOATING STAGE CONCERT JESSIE J 20:45 Jessie J’s debut album, Who You Are [LAVA], marked the debut of a global icon when it reached #1 and was certified multi-platinum in over 15 countries. In 1968, Lionel, defying his parents, joined The Commodores, leaving the confines of Tuskegee and travelling to perform in a group that he hoped would be a huge success. Soon, small packs of girls would turn into millions of screaming fans yelling not only his name, but also singing along with every one of his songs at every one of his shows. In 1981, when Lionel decided to pursue a solo career, his fans rolled with him, watching him become one of the most successful artists of the 1980’s, earning a string of 13 top ten hits between 1981 and 1987, including nine #1 singles. The first, “Endless Love”, followed by the success of “Truly,” “All Night Long,” “Hello,” and “Say You (Say Me)”, “Dancing On The Ceiling”, and the Live-Aid tune “We Are The World” co-written with Michael Jackson. On the heels of his 2012 album which received huge critical acclaim, in 2013 Lionel launched a global tour entitled “All The Hits, All Night Long” and he has proved to fans that he can deliver exactly that. You would think that Lionel would be content with his career, which has spanned over three decades, but Lionel insists on pushing forward and marking new territory in his musical legacy. It is of utmost importance to Lionel to maintain a personal growing relationship with his fans, who he definitely values as one of the many reasons for his continuing success. It wasn’t long before they became fully-fledged members of the iconic Blitz Club scene and established themselves as one of the super-groups of the 80s. After two decades apart, the band reformed in 2009, embarking on a sold-out world tour. In September 2014, the band premiered ‘Soulboys Of The Western World’ to a sold out Royal Albert Hall and reunited on stage in the UK for the first time since 2010 performing some of their anthems, which were a soundtrack to a generation. This unique event was beamed by satellite to 100’s of cinemas across the UK and Eire as the band returned to the Royal Albert Hall for the first time since the week True was released in April 1983. Hot on the heels of scoring the second grossing film in the country with the critically lauded ‘Soulboys Of The Western World’, Spandau Ballet announce their live return with a thirteen-date arena tour for March 2015, making them once again the hottest band in the UK. Composing music for movies and theatre shows, he has also performed internationally. The nightly firework spectaculars are one of the Henley Festival’s most talked about features. For 2015 we present the elegant, slightly mischievous, but ultimately massively impressive and theatrical, Hydro-Pyro-Mania. Leading British company Avanti Display together with young performers from Henley’s Acorn Theatre Group, and from 2014, Pa-Boom Fireworks, come together to huge effect to launch each evening’s late night revels. Water, water everywhere! Thrill Collins is probably the most successful covers band that you’ve never heard of. After European tours and regular festival shows in 2013, this year shows no signs of letting up for the acoustic trio with an almost continuous run of gigs in the calendar ruining the possibility of holiday for anyone in the band. Multi-award winning and internationally acclaimed Adam Hills has become one of the world’s best stand up comics. Performing worldwide for television and festivals, his combination of positive, uplifting comedy and rampant spontaneity have seen him become a household name in the UK after his part in the London Paralympics Games where he fronted the hugely successful ‘The Last Leg with Adam Hills’ for Channel 4. Under-water musicians performing in a paddling pool; live music and acrobatics at the same time from a Swiss duo; an aquarium on four wheels filled with goldfish and a chap behind the steering wheel; a violin recital by an upside down aerialist… Just some of the antics you can expect from the Roving Troupe of Entertainers as they crop up throughout the night across the site.
