Willing to Serve?
If you are willing to serve the students of Henry Elementary in
a powerful way, the PTO needs you! During the May meeting,
we will be seeking nominations for officers for next year. If
you have time, energy, and a passion for our children, please
consider running for a position. The PTO consistently raises
money to support the educational program at Henry. Most
recently, the Golf Tournament raised over $1000 to be used
for school supplies next year.
A Day in the Woods
By: Mr. Paquette
Henry fifth graders had a unique experience recently.
They spent "A Day in the Woods" to learn about a wide variety
of topics, like the K-9 police unit, studying freshwater ecology,
and walking at night on the "Underground Railroad". They had
many more stations of hands-on activities and special guests.
We had a great time!
Noetic Learning Math Contest
By: Mrs. Whitmer
Mrs. Angle recently administered the Noetic Math
competition to students in grades 3 – 5. This national
competition encourages students’ problem solving abilities.
Students were selected by teachers in these grade levels to
participate in the contest and were asked to complete 20
questions in 45 minutes.
The winners for this second administration of the contest this
year were:
Grade 3 ~ Bryce Goad
Grade 4 ~ Dixie Lumsden

Jamestown/Williamsburg Trip 2015
By: Mrs. Altice and the 4th graders
Even though Henry Elementary is a small
school, the students certainly do have big hearts! For
the entirety of the 2014/2015 school year, students
at Henry Elementary have been working relentlessly
to give back to their community. Here is how:
Their first major project was a fundraising
competition between boys and girls. The boys and
girls, who ended up tying, brought in roughly five
hundred dollars! The money was given to two local
churches who graciously support our backpack
program. A special thanks to the SCA members who
helped count this money every day!
Next, the students partnered with the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by assisting the
“Pennies for Patients” program. For three weeks, our
students counted thousands of coins which totaled
to just over seven hundred and fifty dollars. Mrs.
Beckner’s first grade class came in first place. The
Franklin News Post covered this story on April 15th, so
check it out!
The fourth and fifth graders went to
Jamestown/Williamsburg on March 31 and April 1. We had
a great trip! The students visited the Historical Museum in
Jamestown. They also participated by doing hands on
activities like scraping of the shells, making canoes, and
toured the Susan Constant. The students also saw a play,
“MaMa Said, PaPa Said” which told life-lesson stories based
upon African heritage. The field trip was a SUCCESS!!
Next, we would like to thank Daniel Hanks,
who hosted “Bobcat Night” once a month at Daniel’s
Place Restaurant. Due to his monthly donations, we
were able to help fund the backpack program,
student field trips and other charities in the school.
We truly appreciate your loyalty to Henry
Elementary, Mr. Hanks!
Last, but certainly not least, our students
brought in almost ten thousand Boxtops to support
Henry Elementary. Second grade will be awarded
with a kick-ball game during school for bringing in
nearly three thousand.
Thank you to all parents, guardians, students
and staff who paid it forward this year with
compassion and kindness. I am thrilled to see what
the next school year holds for us!
By Mr. Paquette:
On the last day of March, fourth and fifth grade
students went on an overnight trip to Jamestown and
Williamsburg. They got to see and experience what life was
like in both 1607 and the time of our Founding Fathers. We
appreciate all of the volunteers who helped make this such
fantastic trip!
Congratulations, Erin McGinnis, Henry Elementary
Teacher-of-the-Year!!
